Moria was a fantastic expansion. Entering Moria while running from the Watcher in the Water is an emotional experience. But I also remember 2009 and 2010. By the time we got out of Moria and saw the trees of Lothlorien... that was an emotional experience too. After spending SO LONG underground in this massive place, seeing sky and trees again made you feel something.
They are few moments like this in Lotro and entering Moria is one of them. If you like the Moria's music wait until the 2nd Hall, its the best music of the game imo. And as we say it feel good entering Moria but it feel better when you going out of it to finally see the sun
Yep, extremely creepy and then in between moments looking over your shoulder in the dark you suddenly realize you understand the words! Neck hairs sticking straight up! If you aren't also just a little bit happy to finally get out at the end you haven't played it right. 😅
I remember the day I went to the local store and bought the game with the blue box... The interior of Moria was mesmerizing. After examining the surroundings, the first thing we noticed inside was that we couldn't ride horses. This may not be a big issue today, but in the days of Shadows of Angmar, buying a horse was very expensive... I remember we used to pool money with kinmates to buy a horse for one person :) And it felt very strange not being able to use my newly bought horse inside. Finding your way in the Mines of Moria was also very difficult. Since there was no quest tracker back then, finding quest locations turned into a sweet torture. That's why I probably still know the Moria map like the back of my hand; I don't think I left any place unexplored. Those were good days.
@@kafasin this was so heartwarming to read. I really wish I picked this game up from the moment it got released. I know there are a lot of quality of life upgrades now but the sheer magic of playing this game upon launch must have been incredible
Dardanius, great name by the way ;) The Mines of Moria has always been one of my favourite parts of LOTR. Even in the films it was set up with such an ominous feeling, and exploring it and attempting to recover it (and it of course all going wrong) was one of the main reasons I got Return to Moria. Beware of Balrogs!
Moria is also the place where you really get a heavy impession that Dwarves, more than any other race it seems, know how to make use of a ringer/sucker to get a dirty job done. LOL You get a whole new prespective on the Bilbo as thief situation. That dynamic is kind of part of all MMOs, but Moria was the first place years ago I got a strong feeling that many of the dwarves were giggling at me once I was out of earshot. "What did you tell him to kill THIS time? *snicker*", "Did you really get him to clean up the goat's diarrhea?"
That feeling you describe near the lake is still there for me as well 15+ years later. It is set up in the books, but the game manages to reiforce it very well. Moria is a bit of a transportation island - intentionally. And though lore-wise the main road to the gate gets covered over when the lake gets created by the dammed stream, I still remember people joking about how Turbine planned it so that the quickest way by far to get to the gate was a route that forced you to swim directly across the middle of that slimy, monster-ridden lake. You are really doing something right if you are making people cringe and worry about mere pixels!
Enjoy it. You only get to experience it for the first time once, and as others have already mentioned it is a peak MMO experience over the whole field of MMOs. I do remember waiting for the expansion back when it first came out with a bunch of people from my guild and there was general agreemement that Moria was the one thing people were most looking forward to about middle earth. It is after all the great grandfather of at least the IDEA all of dungeon crawls. It does not disappoint! It will be fun to watch your reactions.
I totally agree with you! No other MMO has even come close to scale the world so well as LotRO did. Even the earlier areas had such a good atmosphere. Seeing Weathertop in the distance for the first time, Rivendell, Shire. However, nothing compares to the feeling of entering Moria for the first time. My first Moria experience was amazing as well. I didn't even want to exit to do dailies and events until I fully complete the expansion. I spent about 3 months in Moria, exploring, and the feeling after completion was also amazing, you'll see :D
Moria is so much more fun when you lock XP gain and do every quest. Its really good. I just wish the foundations of stones area was bigger with more lore to it
Out of curiosity what is the point of XP locking and staying at the same level? Because surely if you aren’t earning EXP Using the stone or you aren’t earning it because you are over levelled then what is the difference apart from killing things quicker
@@deployablelover awesome 👍. Oh and 2 things to remember about legendary items. 1) legendary items have a thing called reward track that you get currency to use to get heraldry( to increase your legendary items stats as you lv up) and other stuff 2)please go to the last homely house in rivendel to get your first age legendary items(trade your third ages for a first ages). There are videos on it if you need a guide to find the place to go in the last homely house. And to know what heraldry is.
It was Turbine back then rather than SSG, but I loved Moria. Then WoLTK came out a month later and sucked me in, and I missed years of LOTRO expansions, now back and loving it again.
How was it back then? Our kinship prepared for weeks to be the first ones to enter Moria. I was a student back then and on day one played 20 hours straight - along with some friends. It was awesome, having almost no other players around you for the first 2 days. But when our alts entered moria,.... it was aweful. 10, 20, 30 Minutes to wait for a quest-mob to spawn. No ressources....
I get some of the criticism. Mostly cause navigating can be a pain, as there's a lot of stairs going up and down. And it can be difficult to know where to go and such but i still like this area. now i spent a lot of time there as i wanted the Title (Explorer of khazad dûm) and the exclusive black goat mount (that i named Lucifer.
I have heard a few warnings about this but I’m just going to soak in what I can and not worry about anything else ☺️ Appreciate you checking out the video 👍🏻
I was very excited to enter Moria and also very excited to finally be able to leave lol. I love the expansion but it got old after a while for me personally but I don't really care for underground areas in games. I prefer the open sky and the fields and mountains!
I urge you to try the instances on level and try to do the actual mechanics don’t power through it , you will be missing one of the most amazing instance experiences
The first time I went into Moria I hated it with a passion and now I look forward to it, I understand what you mean by building relationships with the dwarves, it does seem like that. I still do get lost sometimes but that's just Moria for you, by the way, stay away from the edges lol
@@deployablelover I can't say as I blame you there but you may very well feel that way about Moria as well by the time you are through! lol Lothlorien is always a welcome sight even though I do enjoy Moria more than I used to. Also, check out the well when you get to the Chamber Of the Crossroads, that's always a fun title. Happy Hunting!

It's precisely like Gandalf says in the films. Moria is the long dark walk. And it's glorious all the way.

Absolutely 1000% agree! It’s such a special place and for all of lotro’s faults it portrays this so so well!

Is this the reason why F2P servers are so laggy?😅
The ettenmoores(lotro pvp zone) occasionally has wars going on there. Craid vs fraid! Are usually intense on the servers
Moria was amazing when it came out, then from Mirkwood it kinda went downhill, specially when they added the dreaded mounted combat.
