To all you longtime DDO players-If you want to remember how much you love the game just find a newer player and run with them. I run with a group of beta players, real OG, and they love to hear my fresh enthusiasm and thirst for knowledge. In turn I’ve learned a lot along the way from them. It’s a steep curve as I’d never played an mmo before. Just navigating the world was a lot and this is a richly detailed game within a game as you cap, reincarnate and learn another class or race, perfect what you know and become stronger. It’s lucky for me I picked the very best of games as an antidote to the pandemic a couple years ago!

The DM narration is a sweet touch too!
There's not a lot of games out there these days that offer the same aesthetic and experience as DDO. Aesthetic can make or break a game. Also love how it's loosely based off of D&D 3.5 mechanics.

Oh absolutely, the DM Naration was such a lovely surprise when I first started playing and it’s one of the main elements I love about playing solo. Just playing through at my own pace and listening to the DM gets me so immersed!

Great game. Your making me want to relog in. I also love how the reincarnation system makes releveling again and again a relevant part of the end game. It gives you a chance to refine your build over and over again.

@@deployablelover Yeah, it's an interesting feature. Basically you get a small boon each time you reincarnate by getting past life feats that slowly make you more powerful each time you reincarnate. You have the ability to reincarnate at level 20 and get a class boon that stacks 3 times per life, also racial reincarnations which give you a boost to starting skills/stats. Then you have the epic reincarnations at level 30 which are even more powerful but a bit more grindy to get.

It is great to hear that genuine excitement, especially of all the little things such as: narration, sound effects, ruins and etc. There is so much to enjoy and I am glad you are doing that. Don't worry about making a toon that doesn't seem that great of a spec. Just level it to 20 and TR, then you get the bonuses and can make again whatever you want. You will end up with sooooo much gear, augments and platinum that you can accomplish anything. Most of all just have fun.

Recommendations for other quests to do as you level that are really interesting and unique:
Level 5: Partycrashers, especially if you have social skills. You're basically trying to find assassins as you socialize in a banquet/ball to rescue their target before they get to him.
Level 9: Haywire Foundry is a fun dungeon with traps. warforged, etc. But the real fun part is AFTER the final boss fight. I won't spoil it for you, but bring Jump potions.
Level 18: I dream of Jeets both brings back an NPC from the newbie intro chain but also plays interestingly with the idea of being in a "mindscape."

The build variety is what I really love with the game - two characters with the same class can play completely differently, and that's before you even consider multi-classing, universal trees, etc.
I started playing a month or two ago and I've not reached the cap on my first character but I've already got half a dozen future character ideas mapped out in the planner tool 😂

I got the game when it came out, and I can see that u are solo'ing it like we did in the old days. But now u can hire a npc to go with you in dungeons. So other new players hire a healer :-) when u get a little money from selling items u do not need for Char. PS Even in the start, I started to solo dungeons. because of my guild had this fun idea to see if u can. PPS at that time we did not have Prestige Enhancements or hired NPC. PPS I made a lvl 1 thief and rest Ranger lvls. but at time the jumping was soo good that I could jump over a giant as far as I remeber. PSS Still playes this game from time to time because the dungeons are far better that any other games.

Ravenloft is some of my favorite content in the game, but I recommend holding off until level 10 to start it, especially for newbies. That said, as soon as you complete the intro quest (Into the Mists) and enter Barovia proper, there's an NPC nearby that will give you a free Barovian weapon (minimum level 10) of your choice, which are VERY good for their level (especially versus undead, which you'll be seeing a lot of in Ravenloft).

@@Ashock88 that’s a really tough question as I’m really in the honeymoon phase with DDO right now and time will tell if my feelings carry through with it.
They both offer very different experiences. DDO is a lot more fast paced, instanced focused with high fantasy class building where as LOTRO is very open world, with player housing, roleplaying and it’s set in a Tolkien’s world.
Right now I am only playing DDO but I really enjoy LOTRO for what DDO doesn’t offer.
