(As long all consent no issues. I do have issue if only one has the ultimate choice. That sister wives comes to mind as an example. Many people have said this, but as a wannabe writer I disagree. Good authors keep it consistent , us mediocre ones can be unrecognizable from one book to the other, so I wouldn't jump to conclude it is several people.
I have suspected that this tripe of a "romance" novel trilogy is the result of a four-way collaboration from the four prominent media personalities at The Daily Wire: Ben Shapiro, Matt Walsh, Michael Knowles and Andrew Clavan.
I noticed this whole thing was just everyone telling this girl what she should feel and how his job and his wanting her is more than enough reason to commit to him. This seems to be a running trend in the "nice guy" manosphere. No thought towards actual compatibility or proper bonding
You know satire has surpassed reality when you have to actually look to see if a Trump-themed cruise (ugh, oh the horror) is real. By the way, thank you for shouting all of us non binary friends out!
Here's another possibility: the books were written by different authors. The Liberty Adams pen name is a company name, like Franklin Dixon on the Hardy Boys or Carolyn Keene on Nancy Drew.
Of all the things in this book that would drive me insane, I think the worst would be having every character referred to by first and last name over and over again. Humans don't talk like that!
Tell me you’ve never watched J-dramas or certain anime without saying a word about it. Not saying it’s prevalent in those forms of media, but it’s definitely not unheard of for characters to always be Full Named.
The more excerpts Dom reads, the more I'm questioning whether Chat GPT wrote most of this book. A.I. writing tends to favor full character names and perfunctory diction. It also tends to struggle with syntax and punctuation.
Yeah as soon as Dom mentioned that it felt like it was written by AI I muttered a bit of an oh no to myself with the realization that might actually be the case. Especially if it WAS written more recently and not in 2021 like the Dom suspects.
I wish Douglas Adams would come back again and his death was actually a cover story for him doing some interdimensional travelling to inspire his next book.
on the topic of "don't assume someone is a man because they do X, Y, Z" there are asshole women too. I point you to JustPearlyThings, Mikaila Peterson, Blaire White, Candice Owens, JK Rowling, etc, etc. Women are just as capable of perpetuating patriarchy and misogyny. If anything, the existence of such women is integral to the maintenance of patriarchy. If all women agreed that things were shit, we probably would have made a lot more progress by now. That some percentage of women not only go along with it but actively maintain it helps sell the narrative that everything is fine just the way it is.
That's fair. Tbh I was under the impression the theorizing about "Liberty" actually being a cis dude was specifically bc of how the word "female" was used, since incel culture online has kind of trademarked calling women "females" in that specific manner as their thing.
When I was younger(young teen) VC Andrews wrote amazing books. They were dark and disturbing. They featured things like incest and rape and family abuse. And then all the sudden the books became very tame. Because she had died, and now had a ghost author. It was so disappointing.

A traditional courtship is basically super exclusive dating before engagement, without living together and in some cases not being alone together. The courtship period can be of any length before engagement.
Yup, because that’s what really goes down GREAT with bereaved kids; having a new partner pushing into their lives and calling themselves their new daddy/mommy when their parents body’s barely cold.
I completely agree with your theory on this book doing 'baby's first novel' I used to write quite a bit when I was younger and a lot of what made my writing bad was mirrored in the book, the way dialogue doesn't flow right, the way the chapters are likely written out of order, putting on paper whatever scene just popped in the writer's head without much through about coherency, the way the characters seem to change work / desires / characterisation, ect
Thank you for the statement about respecting people’s gender and pronouns, even if you don’t agree with them. Not only is it a great way to fight transphobia (however unintentional), my experience with the romance community suggests that Liberty being who she says she is, simply using a pen name for anonymity, is not outside the realm of possibility. I mean, when there are authors like EL James, Anna Todd, and Jamie McGuire (she’s also a MAGA author), with works rife with internalized misogyny, Liberty has good company.
Cosigning this comment in a big way, I really appreciate that Dom went out of his way to double down on that. Especially considering how belligerent people were being about it on the last video. Its like that one meme, watch the leftism leave people's bodies the instant someone disagrees with them. -.- At least so far things look way more civil on this one at least!!
It is interesting to see the relief at not having to do everything in this book, as that is something that women frequently want! I just finished a book with that as a primary draw of the romantic interest. Usually this is paired with other characters unthinking putting a lot of responsibility on the MC, like insisting she work on vacation while they have fun, or asking her to organize all the kids not just her own, or she has 2 jobs. Etc.
I laughed when she had to have her sister tell her that he was a Republican. 😂 like he’s on a Trump Cruise Ship! Of course he’s Republican, did she think he’d stumbled onto the ship by accident? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
He is the ship's doctor and he just works there. This might be a Maga-cruise, but the next one might be a Pride-cruise: same boat, same crew, different passengers.

Yeah, this isn’t some sleazy singles cruise. Single Mom(TM) would never fall someone who would go on one of those! Just watch her reject the one dude who treats her like they are on a singles cruise. Irrefutable proof that she’s not a meat market kinda gal. But Stalk-Doc McCharge? He’s not “shopping at the meat market.” No. His intentions are pure. So, even though she’s not on a singles cruise, it turns out, because of the leads’ pure hearts, they find true love on this non-singles cruise anyway. /s
Close! "Meat Market" is a relatively common negative descriptor for various singles events and dating apps, referring to a sense that the participants are overly focused on shallow assessment of physical appearances or in pursuit of the least difficult to persuade hook-up. So Allie is saying that the singles dance her family pushed her to attend isn't as sleazy-feeling as she was afraid it was going to be.
Yup, I agree with @allwillfall2me - meat market in my experience means lots of men looking at women like they are meat, frequently middle-aged men trawling for a younger wife

Having been a single mother while also taking care of my sick mom I can say that for me the idea of someone coming in and taking the reigns for me sounds very appealing. There were times I wondered what idiot put me in charge, who gave me all this responsibility. I got through it on my own but there is still that fantasy or daydream of some guy who is capable,, who can handle a situation and take care of things (while being handsome and charming and confident but not arrogant at the same time)coming in and saving the day. Now that's a fairy tale for this woman. Lol.

Whats weird is that this wasn't a bad idea for a romance novel if a little unoriginal since while I don't follow romance novel trends single mother stories sounds like it would be one of the most plentiful. Its at least better then ladies first because this one doesn't feel like Liberty is trying too hard to prove her delusions as correct but wanted to make a legit romance novel with all the MAGA stuff feeling more forced then anything. Its like she realized too late into writing it that it doesn't conform to her brand so instead just put it in random parts like the cruise and thanksgiving conversation.

about the songs playing in the background, I feel like often less experienced writers (or any sort of artists, I'm totally guilty of doing this when I made music) will use aspects of more established writers' work, for example Irvine Welsh VERY often includes the music playing in the background, but there it makes sense, it has a lot to do with the characters, the time period, the subculture etc, or GRRM often describes clothing in great detail and I remember a book I worked on once, it was a kind of fantasy-action-erotica deal (very entertaining and a bast to translate) did the same thing, but when they ended up doing it in an intense fight scene, it came off as odd, I totally get the urge to do the thing our favorite authors do, to utilize these elements, but it takes practice to know when to get it right.
I also really wouldn't be surprised if the songs in question for this particular book were selected for, for a lack of a better term, virtue signaling to the audience type reasons (i.e., how right wing media in America recently tried to prop up those songs about small towns {or so Jason Aldean said, with certain images in the music video and contempt for protesters on display in the lyrics} or the one lambasting food stamps under the guise of working class vs. rich men values). There's also a few songs that people in a certain adjacent conspiracy group have declared anthems, so I'm sure the songs listed in the novel probably link back to those types of things (which I can't blame Dom for not picking up on if so, American culture war stuff like that is pretty exhausting for people on the outside). Edit: I guess dogwhistle or Tara Mooknee's Vice-Signal would also work, but whatever.

Many people have said this, but as a wannabe writer I disagree. Good authors keep it consistent , us mediocre ones can be unrecognizable from one book to the other, so I wouldn't jump to conclude it is several people.
It's most likely a couple - the penname was traced back
I have suspected that this tripe of a "romance" novel trilogy is the result of a four-way collaboration from the four prominent media personalities at The Daily Wire: Ben Shapiro, Matt Walsh, Michael Knowles and Andrew Clavan.

I noticed this whole thing was just everyone telling this girl what she should feel and how his job and his wanting her is more than enough reason to commit to him. This seems to be a running trend in the "nice guy" manosphere. No thought towards actual compatibility or proper bonding
It was also an issue raised by female survivors of the IBLP in Shiny Happy People, which broke my heart.

Here's another possibility: the books were written by different authors. The Liberty Adams pen name is a company name, like Franklin Dixon on the Hardy Boys or Carolyn Keene on Nancy Drew.
wait... the hardy boys and nancy drew collections weren't written by just one author??
@@Panda-cute I had to go and look that up. But yeah, it's true.
Erin Hunter - the credited author of the Warrior Cats line of books - is another famous example
Of all the things in this book that would drive me insane, I think the worst would be having every character referred to by first and last name over and over again. Humans don't talk like that!
I'm not saying it was aliens...
Tell me you’ve never watched J-dramas or certain anime without saying a word about it.
Not saying it’s prevalent in those forms of media, but it’s definitely not unheard of for characters to always be Full Named.
I’m leaning towards the idea that “Liberty” is one of those collective writing groups

Your sacrifice has not gone unnoticed!
The more excerpts Dom reads, the more I'm questioning whether Chat GPT wrote most of this book. A.I. writing tends to favor full character names and perfunctory diction. It also tends to struggle with syntax and punctuation.
I was also wondering this. Big AI/underpaid overworked ghostwriter vibe.
Yeah as soon as Dom mentioned that it felt like it was written by AI I muttered a bit of an oh no to myself with the realization that might actually be the case. Especially if it WAS written more recently and not in 2021 like the Dom suspects.
The only problem is that ChatGPT has a better writing style. Maybe one of the other AIs doesn't?
@@KristenMSnyder If it was an early AI though, that would make sense

That some percentage of women not only go along with it but actively maintain it helps sell the narrative that everything is fine just the way it is.
definitely don't forget miss brett cooper🥲🥲
That's true, women can be as misogynistic just like men and it's called internalized misogyny.
That's fair. Tbh I was under the impression the theorizing about "Liberty" actually being a cis dude was specifically bc of how the word "female" was used, since incel culture online has kind of trademarked calling women "females" in that specific manner as their thing.
The phrase "cigar smoking whisky drinking feminists" gives me wild west vibes.
awesome
When I was younger(young teen) VC Andrews wrote amazing books. They were dark and disturbing. They featured things like incest and rape and family abuse. And then all the sudden the books became very tame. Because she had died, and now had a ghost author. It was so disappointing.
Did you ever let the publisher know that the ghostwritten books really fell down on the incest and rape front?
Someone should inform the ghosts about their writing if not.@@mattrobson3603

My personal head cannon is that the author of My Immortal grew up, fell down an alt-right rabbit hole because of what happened with JKR (you decide if they were interested in perpetuating or stopping it) and then returned to their roots and wrote this.

That's Dom Noble!
I didn’t think this would become a favourite thing but listening to Don rip apart terrible republican romance novels is incredibly compelling.
Oh Dom, the things you do to entertain us with your pain...
A traditional courtship is basically super exclusive dating before engagement, without living together and in some cases not being alone together. The courtship period can be of any length before engagement.
Oh, god, it's a trilogy. And I haven't said that with as much dread since the _Twilight_ years of YA novels. Stay strong, Dom, you can do this!
Yup, because that’s what really goes down GREAT with bereaved kids; having a new partner pushing into their lives and calling themselves their new daddy/mommy when their parents body’s barely cold.
Can’t believe I’m defending this trash but the dads been dead four years, not that he isn’t creepy though

"Using periods like a napalm strike" is my new favorite term.
Could it be possible that "Liberty Adams" isn't a single person, but a group of people using the same pseudonym?
Almost certainly, some of which may be AI.
That “… Marvel harder!!” got me good. Amazing job, mate.
Tell me you're into power play, without telling me you're into power play
Liberty: wait a sec
About the “Case” thing, my guess is that Liberty was watching”House MD” and assumed that this is how real doctors refer to patients and emergencies
I thought that too, it’s referred to as such in House
It is interesting to see the relief at not having to do everything in this book, as that is something that women frequently want! I just finished a book with that as a primary draw of the romantic interest. Usually this is paired with other characters unthinking putting a lot of responsibility on the MC, like insisting she work on vacation while they have fun, or asking her to organize all the kids not just her own, or she has 2 jobs. Etc.
A Kingdome of King Dom shirt could be cool with an open book leaking letters or worlds drip onto a role of old school film.
A Kingdom Of Dom shirt, with a throne made of books!!!
I'm marveling, I'm marveling!! The things you do to entertain us. Phew. I could never. Thank you, daddy! I mean, Dom. Ahem.

I think "meat market" is supposed to mean attractive men... At least, that's how I'm taking it knowing this is intended to be a romance novel.
"MARVEL HARDER" it cracks me up lol
Our protagonist is really going to suffer when she tries to navigate the health insurance rules for getting the cruise ship treatment eligible for applying to the deductible.
That was only last year?! I'd have bet it was no later than 2021 that you reviewed the first book. Gods, time flows in strange ways.
Ah Dom see the problem is that Google isnt the place to search for a MAGA Cruise

@14:57 I love it when you call us "good girl", Dom :)
Lol.
I respect Shelby Hotz so much. She is such a trooper. The years of support have earned her place in the outro.
Dom, i love your commitment to supporting the writers and actors strike. Seriously thank you. I don’t know if you’re taking a hit monetarily during this time, but know that I absolutely will not be abandoning you(or skipping ads😊) You truly are both a gentleman and a scholar and I love you for it.
I was concerned this review would depress me, but Dom worked magic to make it hysterical instead. Diet Coke indeed. Was this written by AI? Seriously.
It does sound like one of of those Harlequin romance book series that you see everywhere only done horrible as humanly possible.

I'm definitely on board with the possibility that this was AI-written. Seems to make the most sense.
10:21 Found this interesting because I recently found out that "positive anymore" is a legitimate thing. It's apparently used like "nowadays" in some dialects in the midwestern US, so our friend Liberty may be from that area.
While the lack of publisher or editor is a viable theory, I also think it's possible Liberty gave her pseudonym to a ghost writer for this one. Not a professional ghost writer, obviously, but it'd make sense if Liberty had other priorities.

about the songs playing in the background, I feel like often less experienced writers (or any sort of artists, I'm totally guilty of doing this when I made music) will use aspects of more established writers' work, for example Irvine Welsh VERY often includes the music playing in the background, but there it makes sense, it has a lot to do with the characters, the time period, the subculture etc, or GRRM often describes clothing in great detail and I remember a book I worked on once, it was a kind of fantasy-action-erotica deal (very entertaining and a bast to translate) did the same thing, but when they ended up doing it in an intense fight scene, it came off as odd, I totally get the urge to do the thing our favorite authors do, to utilize these elements, but it takes practice to know when to get it right.
Not gonna lie, love how she uses the periods in this book. Adds the right amount of melodramatic flair to otherwise cliché scenes XD
I've heard that name dropping songs into stories is used by inexperienced writers to set the tone of a scene.
To be fair i did get an x-ray on a cruise ship. They have like a full medical ward with multiple doctors, nurses, techs. Theyre hauling around thousands of people, including crew who will need routine medical care
