In todays video I'm doing some threshold intervals on the treamdill, and of course I don't neglect speed at the end of the session.
In this video I talk about using Stryd power meter to help execute really great threshold training,
In this series, we dive deep into the world of advanced marathon preparation, focusing specifically on the revolutionary concept of running power and its application in threshold training.
Threshold training is a crucial element for any marathon runner looking to push their limits and achieve new levels of performance. By incorporating running power metrics into your training routine, you'll gain a deeper understanding of your effort levels, pacing strategies, and overall running efficiency.

Treadmill is excellent, there are many people who have no idea and criticize just because. Using a fan to remove the hot air that forms around you is always a good idea.
treadmill is a mental game. i just cannot keep my attention focused on 2+ hour runs on the treadmill, but i can go all day on the trails or out in the city.
@@janemf It's true, I take it as a mental exercise, what I did at first was to listen to podcasts and music, so I managed to increase my time on the machine.
What is the black cooling tube that Stephen showed in this video? Thanks
Thanks! Why would u want to keep it u fee 1.5? Not 1.7 or 2 or 1? Just wondering if there’s like a certain study that says this is the point to measure against
Hello, I would like to know now which sneakers are better for road and dirt tracks at a pace of 3-4 minutes marathon?
XTEP pro 3.0?
What's that there cooling gadget?
I went from couch to half marathon in 5 months only using a treadmil ,im 51 2 hours and 6 mins 👴
Doing speed/tempo on a treadmill twice a week has been part of my training for 6 months. Great for control and to see steady increase in a controlled environment. Thanks for the tips and funny wig!
You look WAY better without the wiggy!
Running and coffee, favourite things 😂
Same today!
Great workout especially with xc for me .
I hope training is going well.
❤ from England.
The haircut got me crying 😂
Love you mate
Great job Stephen. Moving to the right of the curve. Got it. Like your work. Stay motivated and Good luck in your next World / Olympic Champs.
There's a foot of snow outside here, most roads not plowed (or under plowed), no real shoulder, cars going too fast, dark till 8, sundown at 4. I fell in love with having a garbage tready last year. It died, loving the new solid one. Get me moving more, faster. I can have some water and fuel. Ditch layers as I get warm. I can set a pace and live with it, or go faster or slower to keep in target HR range.
0:48 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I was SHOOK
Thanks Mr. Scullion. Appreciate timely video. Amateur hour here, I get wimpy about the miserable weather and have been doing treadmill to maintain between races.
the hair threw me off 😭😭😭
Great video! Thanks for posting.
Stephen, im a 46 min 10k runner, i want to break 40 mins. Do you think treadmill training is good for maintaining/ increasing fitness (as long as its a tough session and theres an incline on the treadmill, to make it like running outside) thanks
We need a full day of eating video
THAT WIG LMAO! I've always believed hair loss should be embraced, but I'd be lying if I wasn't nervous about losing my own. With that said I've always been like "I hope I turn out like one of those handsome dudes with a normal shaped dome". Bald works for you bro! Anyway I appreciate the content 🍻
If only Santa could give the treadmill you are running on to a gym near me :-). That is a Rolls-Royce of treadmill machines you have there.
The video doesn't really inform us about the the merits of treadmill running, landing etc
When not training for an event, I prefer to run outside just for the joy of being in the Florida sun. Otherwise, I train on the treadmill because it’s noticeably easier on my joints and the soles of my feet, which allows me to race in optimal condition (fully healed). But I’m 63yo, so maybe I wouldn’t need to heal if I were younger?
Stephen can you please tell me what UA shoes you are using?
Do you have and recommendation where to do those tests?
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience.😊
Thank you, Coach!
Love the vid Stephen! I find myself running on a curved treadmill for a majority of my runs due to my schedule. I’m curious to know what the purpose of the band that you put at the front of the treadmill is for?
I run about 20% faster just by wearing a wig.
Do you think we'll ever get a device that can measure the lactate through skin? There was one but it hasn't hit the market ever since it was announced
Hope you have a great run and can enjoy the race on Sunday!
Better without the wig … it was a bit of a shock 😂
Soft on the joints. Thats it haha
What is that at 2:33...?
That syrup looks great.
Great Video.Do you know how to determine Lactate Treshold 1 and 2 using Heart rate. I am 20 years old and just run a 1:25 Half Marathon in 172 Heart rate prom.
Two options - 1 do a lactate step test on a treadmill with a friend recording data or 2 search up a sports lab that will do one for you. Then you plot your curve. Lots online about how to then determine LT1 and LT2
Hahaha love the wig
Out of curiosity, what does the band do on the treadmill?
Stops us from running off the front or pushing too fast. If it hits your thigh you slow down a bit
Is there any way to know where 1.5 is without going to a lab?
I think its close to VT1 - this is the first time you notice a need to breath and you shift from conversation pace to just need a few long slow breaths. VT1 Ventilatory Threshold
1:12 loved 😂😂😂😂
Thanks
I enjoyed that Steven thankyou. I did a 4 x 1 mile with 2 min recovery jogs at my threshold 2 pace this morning. Does it matter if my heart rate creeps over where it should be a little towards the end of the last mile rep? Bearing in mind it's when I've nearly finished the session
That's exactly what you want. Controlled early reps - push the final one a bit - money rep
@@mattsmith8191 cheers matt👍
Your running technique looks amazing. What’s the fan on you?
LMFAO!!! "Oohhh! I'll tell ya what...I like that, even though I don't think I made it perfectly...but I'll give that about an 8/10" That Smile!!! We need to see that infectious smile more.
After my Oct marathon, all I have been working on is TTE, reducing cadence, lengthening stride. Stryd on treadmill has been awesome, although I reduce my wattage by 10w to account for lack of AP (to keep it simple). I live in Canada, so I can handle the cold and wind...but icy roads....no so much. Some weeks I can nail 100% of runs outside, some weeks I force myself to only get my long run outside. And while I don't like the treadmill, I consider myself fortunate that I have one and a space to use it effectively.
Keep smiling and keep training!
Woodway style treadmills are better on the legs you can get the internal workload you want and lessen the risk of injury 👌
Pitty they cost about 10 grand 😢 I wish I had access to one at a gym or something, the look awesome.
There are cheaper options. Still expensive. I think woodway is that expensive because it's used in hospitals etc. Everything for medical purpose the prices are inflated..
I like the Woodway brand traditional treadmills rather than the Curve after trying both.
I find treadmill running harder. Slower paces feel harder. Have done the same workouts outside and treadmill and hr is higher on treadmill. Other factors maybe but it always feels harder on treadmill.
Core body temperature rises faster and higher indoors. Results in higher heart rates
It’s because it’s usually a lot hotter in a gym than outside. I love doing my speed sessions on a treadmill because you can be so much more accurate with paces but when you go outside and it is a lot cooler, the same pace feels a lot easier.
