Now I wish they’d make a series of shorts taking place after the film. How Luca met Guilia’s mother. How Luca got introduced at school. How Alberto and Massimo spend their time with Luca’s parents and grandmother. How Machiavelli met his mate and had their kittens. and How Luca and Guilia spend their first Christmas.
A cool way to do it would be as a “stealth” series on Disney+ or maybe DisneyXD (for a wider audience) that isn’t advertised in advance as having anything to do with _Luca._ Director Enrico Casarosa could say that he loved doing _Luca_ because it allowed him to show off the 1060s Italy of his childhood to a worldwide audience, and he wants to do more of that but Luca’s story has already been told and besides there’s more to Italy than the coastal region with towns like Portorosso. So he’s doing a series that’s set somewhere in the Italian interior, featuring a normal human boy of about ten (so a little younger than Luca). The boy would be given a name typical of boys born in Italy in the 1950s. I’d suggest Domenic or maybe Domingo, with the nickname “Dom” in honor of the late Italian actor Dom DeLuise. And that three-letter nickname would be the name of the series: _Dom._ Though set in the same nation and time period as _Luca,_ Casarosa assures (and disappoints) fans that Luca isn’t going to come visit Dom’s village (maybe a villa near some vineyard or something like that), and in fact that the first season of _Dom_ is set a little _before_ the events of _Luca._ Dom is in his last year of grade school. He has various adventures, none involving anything supernatural or mythical. We learn about him and his personality and his friends. I see Dom as having light brown mostly straight hair. At the end of the first season, Dom and his classmates graduate from grade school, then have to decide whether to follow their various family trades or some other trade they’re interested in and so apprentice themselves (like Alberto does under Massimo), or maybe aspire to go into Catholic ministry with boys becoming altar boys on a track to become priests and girls on a track to becoming nuns, or maybe seek a more intellectual career and so attend higher education starting with boarding school. Dom, seeking a career in medicine, decides the latter, and he bids farewell to his family and friends as he boards a train to Genova. End of first season. In the second season, Dom enrolls into the boarding school. We follow him as he attends various classes, and he winds up in the same science class along with other youth about his own age including a girl with dark brown straight hair who hails from yet another part of Italy (or is maybe a Genova local) who I’ll call Angela for now, another girl with fiery red hair and a personality to match, and a strangely naïve yet inquisitive and obviously intelligent boy with dark brown curly hair, those last two both hailing from the coastal region and who’re obviously already close friends. I think by now you know where this is going. Yes, Dom and Angela are the two classmates who Luca reveals his true nature to @ 1:15 to their and their teacher’s shock as Giulia , and who watch in awe as he looks into a large telescope for the first time @ 2:08. Still, though, even after that reveal, the series would be about Dom, _not_ Luca and Giulia. Since those two are living with Giulia’s mother there in Genova, Luca wouldn’t be staying in the boys’ dorm with Dom and his other male friends. We only see Luca and Giulia in that science class, not in the other classes Dom’s in.
