    IAAF World Championships - Berlin 2009 - 100 Metres Men Final
    DATE: August 16th 2009 (08/16/2009)
    RESULTS:
    1. Usain Bolt - 9.58 (WR) - *exact time: 9.572
    2. Tyson Gay - 9.71 (NR)
    3. Asafa Powell - 9.84
    4. Daniel Bailey - 9.93
    5. Richard Thompson - 9.93
    6. Dwain Chambers - 10.00
    7. Marc Burns - 10.00
    8. Darvis Patton - 10.34
    Note: Usain Bolt covered the first 60m in a time of 6.29/6.31 seconds (depending on the study - 'DLV Scientific'), which would have been a world record. However, records for 60m can only be set in that specific event, so the official record remained in the hands of Maurice Greene with a time of 6.39s from February 1998. It was officially broken by Christian Coleman in 2018 with a time of 6.34. Even so, Bolt's 60m split from this race remains the fastest ever.
    *Times are recorded down to the thousandth of a second, but they are always rounded up. So a 9.570 is 9.57, but even a 9.571 is already 9.58.

    As a Jamaican with track and field is in my blood. I have seen athletes set records from the days of Donald Quarry ......a world record usually runs a cycle of one generation to be broken. What Usain Bolt has done/accomplished in his lifetime will take two generations! This 100M world record......may outlive all our lifetime. There’s a limit to human endurance....if that wasn’t the case...one day a man would run the 100M in 0 seconds otherwise we have to respect logic!

    • @terefefeyssa877
      @terefefeyssa877 Год назад +4

      Ballsticafr2: you missed one big point. Running and time go together.
      There is no running in 0 seconds. It is not even possible to talk about 100 meters sprinting. When you kill time, sprinting will die with it. So there can be no competition of 100 meters.

      I completely disagree with them calling Gay a better athlete pound for pound. It's much more rare for a tall guy to be fast, look in other sports the shortest guys are always the fastest. With their absurd logic 7 footers in basketball would easily beat everyone else up and down the court due to their biomechanical advantage.

    • @rossfromsa
      @rossfromsa 2 года назад +1

      That was not Bolt putting in 100% effort. Not in my opinion. When things were working for him, he should have pushed harder. He was surprised that it broke his previous record. You can see it in his reaction at the end. So in essence, his times will be broken, but they could have been even better.

    • @olivenethomas4042
      @olivenethomas4042 2 года назад +2

      I think that Mr. Bolt's records will be broken and I believe that they will be broken sooner than we think. As a Jamaican this makes me sad, but it would do the sport good to continue to have the kind of excitement that Mr. Bolt provided for the last 10 years of his career. I don't agree that he didn't put in 100% effort. For this race he ran through the line nearly at full tilt. I just wish that he would have resisted the urge to see his own time during the race. That cost him time every single time he ran. I also wish that as spectacular as the race in the Olympics in 2008 was with his mid-race celebrations that he had run hard through the line in that one. I have seen analytics of that race and those estimate that he could have got into the 9.4+ had he known what he was about to do and had he wanted it badly enough. I would have wanted to see that.
