remember it like it was yesterday. Joey was phenomenal, he hadn't played much footy for so long and was selected as a last resort. I was there and I'll never forget seeing him put in such a stellar performance, he was in complete control.
People said after his 40/20 he dominated the game, but I think he dominated from the out. His long balls, his kicking game, his presence and the belief he gave his team. Unreal. The 8th.
Despite this match being one of Johns best ever many people forget that he did it against the best QLD line up such that had Lockyer, Slater, Thurston, Cam Smith as players considered as once in a life time players which makes Johns a much bigger champion

Slater didn´t play that badly. I never understood why they dropped him for game three. QLD ended up getting smashed with Matt Bowen at the back in game three.
Slater back then was like Walsh, givws you so many errors but still dangerous when an opportunity presents itself. Couldn't handle Johns bombs which were nothing by todays standards. To go from a gamw like to be considered the greatest fullback is impressive. Still remember him throwing the world cup against the kiwis though. Lol
its hard to think ! After 10mths from a broken jaw, he only played one game at club level then gets the call up because Trent Barret got injured. This is a performance probably would never see again. How good would he have been, if he was match fit & played many more at club level? Astonishing really.. even the commentators were speculating, is this the right choice??
@@stevennorris7181 must of missed the last few words in the rule mate haha "For a successful 40-20: the kicker must be behind his side's 40-metre line when he kicks the ball, the ball must first hit the ground within the field of play, the ball must then go over the sidelines of the field of play (into touch) past the opponent's 20-metre line."
Christopher Dale Qlds steak only started because Joey retired. Simple. If he would’ve played in 06 nsw would’ve won. Yes qld would have still be dominant after he retired but if he would’ve played he would’ve delayed their dominance
typical ockers calling johns the greatest, how long you been watching rugby league ffs, Johns was a top player, but greatest, ever, either side of the globe. Just no.
@@malife_dz2109 Yeah its you're losing fans and audience attendance every match. Soccer will be the new national sport and take over which is a good thing because soccer is a sport for everyone.
Lockyer. Smith. Thurston. Slater
Johns destroyed them all on his own.... Unbelievable player!
Only to have Stacy Jones own him in the Tri-Nations later that year despite playing along side Locky
GanjaFarmer he hurt his knee again at the end of 2005 during the tri nations which is why he pulled out
Probably the best anyone has ever played in an Origin match.
They won the next 8 series .....
@@simonpapik6365 I think we won 11 out of the next 12 series though..
It was great to have the Origin in good quality picture, 1080p. Thanks to NRL for putting it in HD.

One of the great masterful performances from a legendary player

Zmart I've seen so many of your comments saying how great joey is.. if you wanna give him a blowie just say so for christ sake 😂🤣
Weird to think that Cameron Smith is the only player in the game still playing
Matt King is the unsung hero of this match.
Matt King was player of the series. Brilliant in all three games.
This was one of Joey's finest moments, he defiantly is the G.O.A.T 🐐
A couple years before that, many were calling for him to be an immortal. And after this game, there was no doubt
@@nigelandandi453 yep without a shadow of a doubt no one will compare
He can be a goat. But there's only one King. ;-)
@Dale Wilson King Wally eats him for breakfast and picks his teeth with the bones. :-)
hilarious
Joeys performance was the greatest of all time like Ali was in his prime 🎉
What a superb call by Rabs!! And how good was Joey!!!
That Johns guy is very underrated. What a game

Why is the national anthem muted? is it copyrighted?
And the anthem is uploaded on many other grand final and origin videos previously on RUclips. Definitely not a copyright issue.
I think it could be because the artist singing can claim copyright so they probably want to avoid any legal hassle.
Look how young Billy and JT are

Joey...know one comes close mate
The 40/20 from Andrew John's didn't actually make it, never actually bounced in the 20 zone before it was out
proper gander you need to go to spec-savers cuz it clearly did
Well spotted, if thats the rule yeah it didnt bounce inside the 20, just before and just out.
just checked the rules, the ball only has to bounce inside the field of play, not inside the 20m line
You can see the dominant qld era approaching slater lockyer Thurston Smith. It was a boring 8 years for nsw.
