My first ever grand final - sat in the stands that are no longer there. Never missed a Melbourne premiership, but this will always be special as it was the first.
Mine too. I remember looking at the crowd trying to comprehend it being nearly 3 x my home town population lol. Remember when the jet swooped through the stadium without warning?
This was my first NRL Grand Final I remember watching it with my Grandad, Uncle Michael and Dad from Grandads lounge room Mundine put on a show I remember it well I was 9 at the time
That has to be one of the all time greatest comebacks of all time.!! Lead by.the forwards in the second half by Chief Tawera Nikau, Rodney Howe, Paul Marquet, Roarty, Matt Rua, Bowden... They all stood proud. What a game.! Record crowd, controversial finish that made it the most memorable final ever.!! Well done Melbourne Storm.!!
They somewhat overachieved in 1999 though. They beat minor premiers Cronulla after coming back from an 8-0 defecit at the break to win thanks largely in part from an individual brilliance from Mundine. Then they just ran out of gas toward the end of the GF as a result.
I’m here in 2020 watching my favourite team win their first grand final and I think that this is where Melbourne Storm began their domination in the nrl till this day
This was meant to be the Sharks year, they dominated the 99 season but choked against St. George in the Prelim, I guarantee you if they made the GF instead of St. George they would’ve won it.
In the 1990’s I was a lower grader and knew the players well enough About 11pm that night , I sat with Jamie A on the seats outside the leagues club , he was distraught , like he was mourning . I looked at him and said “You win as a team and lose as a team “. He looked at me and smiled Wearing our player jackets, we both removed our jackets and kept smiling A lot of players were angry and finger pointing - choc copped a lot blame, correctly
First time I’ve set eyes on this since 99’. & Man a Grand Final of the ages!. Feel sorry for the StG Players retiring & without a P’ship😢, what a Team. *Ainscough aside, Melbs 2nd half momentum swing & enthusiasm hard to contain.
I came here from the St. Helens "Wide to West" video. Mike Stephenson (Stevo) mentioned that Wide to West reminded him of the Melbourne-St. George Grand Final. So I had to see what all the excitement was about!
Re watching it Mundine was hit high on the head in the act of scoring a try and made him drop the ball. Should’ve been a penalty try. Melbourne also scored a try with a forward pass by Geyer and then scored another one after they blatantly head highed Wishart to regain the ball from the kick off after the Dragons try. The ref was on their side that day.
Gee have a look at all that Ansett Australia advertising😂 barely a square inch of room without an advertisement on it. Also why was the national anthem silenced out?
Dragons were robbed! Blatant forward pass by the Storm on one try! Video ref should be given the power to rule on forward passes! Dragons should have won!!

@J G shut up
I was above the try line on the side where the penalty try was

the crowd truly was and still is something to behold, amazing stuff
What a game. this game was such a high paced affair. Full of legends.
McGregor was such a beast.
Love my Storm boys! Back then and now in 2023. Go Storm ⚡️

that game was on the eve of the 9th birthday it was THE BEST birthday present I've have EVER wanted
Lazarus is such an awesome dude. What a great career.

it’s now been topped
PRAISE BILL HARRIGAN.....THE GENESIS OF THE GRAND STAND FINISH.....bEGAN IN 1989 with weststigers getting ripped and culminate in 1999......
Looking at the Dragons team today and it is still unreal to think that they didn’t win, unbelievable players for them.

One of the best grand finals of all time up there with 2015.........
2015 definitely wasn't the best, it was only the last 5 minutes that was good.
@@nickalan5539 Yes that is true
@@nickalan5539 He said one of the best...

They had a few dud years in 2001-2002.
2006 was when the juggernaut began.

Why is the Hugh Jackman singing the National Anthem part muted?
@@user-pm3nf8pu2k could be copyright
Back when Melbourne didn’t have so much hate put on them
They only hate because there a gun team in a non rugby league state.

This was the last NRL grand final of both The 20th Century & The First Millennium.
There's no such thing as year zero. And after 2000 years it's the start of the third millennium
I spoke to Darren Tracey about this and he said he still hasn’t watched the game!😂
Loving these full match replays. How about 2005 Grand Final? - A Tigers fans currently living in South East Missouri.
@MUFC Nutter !!!! FOOTBALL !!!!
Or the 2016 Grand Final for that matter.

When Marcus Bai ran straight thru Shaun Timmins it was amazing
On what video Time that scene appeared?
Keep them coming please! Would love the 1995 GF on here :)
Yea the same can only find highlights

Tawera Nikau, a Huntly legend.
Why did they mute Hugh Jackman?
I DID WATCH THE 1999 NRL GRAND FINAL ON VHS IN HALLAM DAYS
John Howard got a warm welcome.
Marcus Bai 🇵🇬🔥👍💯
Craig Fitzgibbon’s daughter is in my class at my school.
Thank you very much for retro. Can you upload GF2000?
The two newest clubs at the time were in their first GF.
On the nose.
And I used to think that Melbourne players came from Melbourne. Lol!
some do. especially the young players coming up from second grade
Idk man, most Melbournians watch AFL, so I could say I used to think that Sydney Swans players were from Sydney
I still believe to this day that the last try was without doubt a penalty try and Ainscough should have been sin binned
You can't have both. Its either a try or a sin bin.

Was this the first penalty try ever given? Even the commentator's got confused over the difference between a penalty try and an 8 point try.
Oh Brother Marcus Bai 💪👍
Does anyone know what the song is called that’s played at 1min 47s? As the players walk out?
Did anyone notice that Melbourne didn't run out the last play? Would have been interesting if st george had ran off with that ball and scored
I was at the game boy
How many high tackles go unnoticed?
So many mate. So many..................
and nobody gave us a chance! greatest gf ever
greay GF but not the best ever... not even close.
Why is Advance Australia Fair muted?
russell bawden is my coach for brothers
Best nrl ever game
1:33:00 Nikau didn't play the ball properly 🤔
St George or Melbourne
1:33:05
Dragons game!!!! Storm did not deserve this 💯
Keep dreaming
Dragons had every chance to win this. They lost it fair and square.
Both teams had calls go for and against them.
Keep telling yourself that
Gee have a look at all that Ansett Australia advertising😂 barely a square inch of room without an advertisement on it. Also why was the national anthem silenced out?
Jaime ainscough moved to Siberia after this game
the baggy clothes days
That was a penalty try
worst day of my life.
Penalty try 1:36:04
Dragons should have won this so easy I dont follow either team but they lost some how
21 minutes a clear forward pass by the dragons ruled a knock on by Melbourne. Typical pro Sydney biased call. 21 years on nothing's changed.
You must have missed Geyer's forward pass to Martin.
Dragons very unlucky to lose this.
NRL, why did you mute the Australian National Anthem from this broadcast? Disgusting
Ahhh maybe copyright issues? its not that hard to work out.
@@davidnelson702 Oh please, who owns the rights to the national anthem. Did you work that out yourself.
Adrian Darby he means like with Hugh Jackman
Copyright, not the song but the singer is copyrighted.
Dragons should have won.

Shameful blocking the Anthem a strong dislike from me.
Was probably a copyright issue.
