got this one back at the bastille day event. fun little plane for the first engagement, but each successive dogfight gets less fun until you run out of both energy and cannon (a bit like a 109E, that climbs noticeably worse). supposedly if correctly modeled, D.521 would have wing cannon instead of nose, but iirc it’s a paper plane anyways.
Ive found against early war fighters in the hands of a good pilot these french planes can perform pretty well. I have a 4 to 1 kd in the ms 406 at 2.0 but if you get uptiered your doomed against a 109 f it doesnt stand a chance gotta get lucky with a maneuver kill or something.
As a French man, i like that plane, in history it was a real hope for the French fighting Air Force, and can compete with the early bf 109 and early spitfires, but the industrial line were operating far too late for changing anything and stop the mighty German Blitz, shame, but it is what it is right ? In game, well it ‘s a pretty mediocre fighter, but kind of workable and fun if you don’t expect too much with it 😂
I was just flying the d.521. My favourite of the french aircraft even though it is just a re-skin. Back in the day, i remember people recommending to boom & zoom in this aircraft. Problem is that it has bad energy retention. That and its poor slow speed performance is a recipe for mediocrity as you said in the video. I will say that there is a sense of satisfaction using a mediocre vehicle and performing well in it.
Play the D.520 - stock is absolutely miserable. I literally could not play it after the first flight, was so abysmal I’d rather stick with the wooden V.G.33C-1 at 2.7
