Self taught as well...Marcelito spent some time homeless and sang to comfort himself. He learned by mimicking to a large extent.
Filipinos love to sing and karaoke is everywhere.
What I don't like is creating the competitive "root for the home team" mentality. What Marcelito is doing is not a sport. The Filipinos have Efren Reyes to compete with. Efren is the best pool player I've ever seen. I root for him. It's a great competitive activity.

Marcelito makes it easy because he can. He is a singing angel on earth. For me, this is his absolute masterpiece, something of crystal clear sung, the bright madness and in 2 languages. As a former street child, he didn't have it easy in life and taught himself to sing alone.
That smooth transition of his always surprises even watching this a hundred times.
This artist is in the league of his own. Singing two different voices and in two different voices, live and sitting. How can you not be amazed 😲👏.

Literally, there are a lot of singers out there from various places, who could sing in dual voices in their native languages, but up to this caliber, it's hard to find a second one.

Marcelito is amazing. As others have probably told you he had no professional vocal training. He is self taught. He comes from a very poor childhood. Raised himself on the street. God loved him so much He gave him two beautiful voices. 😊 And Marcelito himself says it is a gift from God. ❤

I'm amazed that his high 'male' voice has a different timbre/tone than his 'female' voice. you always know which voice is being presented...
If you want to hear the overlapping vocals like Celine Dion and Andrea Bochelli, the original, check out Marcelito Pomoy's RUclips channel, he redoes this wth multitrack overdubbing. Also, understand at the time that this was taped, his English speaking was not very good. He never spoke Italian. So at this time, everything is just sounds. He is also not classically trained this is all self taught. His mother left him when he was 7 and at that time, his father was in prison. So he lived on the streets of Manila. Most regular people in the Philippines learn English in school, so he never learned English until much later in life. What Marcelito is doing is to get the "pop" sound of Celine Dion and the operatic tenor sound of Andrea Bocelli, so he is mixing two different styles.

That‘s what I‘m here for .. because I know Marcelito and this performance already, I‘m curious what you will talk about. .. and I‘m not disappointed, you pointed out his rich and fabulous mixed voice .. for me, Marcelito don’t need the female kind of voice to be a outstanding singer.

Fabulous reaction Jenn ! You are the most animated analyst on You Tube ! Each reaction is a performance on its own ! You are truly a hands on person in that you could not talk if you sat on your hands ! You hands and arms are an orchestral movement on their own ! I watched your video with the sound off and it was so magical to see your performance with your facial reactions directing your arms and hands ! Magnificent to say the least ! Back to Marcelito and his tremendous ability to change his vocal dynamics so quickly and accurately is absolutely uncanny ! He has practiced this technique for years and perfected it into beautiful artistry at a high level ! If you close your eyes I guarantee you would think there are two singers ; male and female ! To top it off this guy is relaxed and sitting in a chair !! Not an easy task to say the least ! Your vocal analysis as always was spot on and a pleasure to listen to ! @@JenniferGlatzhofer Your transitions from palms to fingers are quite smooth. You do seem to favor your right over your left hand which is even noticeable when using both simultaneously. With a little more work on your wrists you could increase your range of expression. And, don't be afraid to raise your elbows when accenting your gestures as it adds more to the emotional content. 👌👌😊😊

Uh, why u stopping it, a lot have seen this video, and know he is self taught, started at the age of 7 on the streets in the Philippines and at 17 or 18 won the Philippines voice doing or singing like this and went on AGT, wasn't treated fairly, as we all say. He's still shocking everyone to this day...😁

I have seen some reactions and this is the only one I regard with pleasure, such is your skill in describing what you see and hear, seasoned with a spectacular apparent sympathy; compliments. - Marcelito Pomoy is simply a phenomenon, as he does not seem to have limits both below and above; I also saw the video of him NArito Ako and his voice is simply angelic

I've seen a few vocal coaches try and explain how Marcelito is able to sing like this, but I've yet to hear any of them replicate it. So it appears that it's much more than mere technique. Otherwise we'd hear a lot more people doing this. His ability to create a Disney quality soprano tone is amazing coupled with his rich tenor tone is abnormal. It will be interesting to hear how he approaches an original piece of music and whether we hear an original tone.
Makes me wish that Celine and other male opera singers made more songs that Marcelito can practice on.

Great analysis of Marcelito’s cover. I’m happy that you commented that it’s advisable to not break up a word to get a breath in. But you clarify by saying sometimes it’s too difficult to do and to not get discouraged if you can’t.
It’s a little pet peeve when I hear a breath there... but sometimes it’s very much needed ahah!

Marcelito is self trained in singing. He did this song many years ago. It’s amazing how he sings the way that he does. From I read about him he had a tough life. His father went to prison and his mother abandoned him. I believe that he spent some time living with his father in prison. But he spent most of his life on the streets. It’s a pretty emotional story.

It's always appeared to me that Marcelito keeps his mouth opening small as part of his technique in achieving the sounds he wants to create when mimicking another artist.
