Great video on casting fiberglas rods. I too started with a 'glas rod but as most of us, we graduated to grahite. I have two, a 4weight and an old Orvis Allflex 3-1/4, 7 weight. This will get me back to using those rods.
Thank you very much for this advice. I used once recently on one of my fishing trips and I had hard time casting my expensive fiberglass rod even though my club members were saying it’s great rod. To the point I was about to give it away. Again thanks for all of your tutorial videos.❤
Great advice from both you and Tim (Think slow ) when casting fiberglass. When I started I was using bamboo and when fiberglass came out I went to my local Western Auto and bought a 6/7 weight ( Eagle Claw ) and thought it was the greatest thing and fast . Interesting to see it’s trying to make a comeback , may have to dig my glass rods out and see if I can still cast them . Thanks for sharing
I have a few Glass Rods ranging from 5wt-12wt, first rod was a Echo Bad Arse Glass 9” 8wt a first production run rod and fished it to death at Jurassic Lake had to get it replaced on warranty due to a fault with rod with there Second Run production of this rod still fishing with it in Argentina and at home in New Zealand. Other Glass Rods are the New Zealand made Epic Glass Rods 5wt & 12wt rods, 12wt rod I use for fishing River Tarpon in Costa Rica. Great Video on Glass Rods with Tim. Met Tim and his Partner about 6 years ago when he did a Promotion Tour of New Zealand promoting Echo Rod which got me fishing Glass.
I own and fish the 7wt BAG often. My thought with it is always to be slowish (it’s not a “slow” rod) but firm with it. That series of rods will handle a lot of power and require a more connected and firm stroke.
Glass requires cigars. Back cast. Chop off the end. Forward cast. Light. Back cast. Inhale and meditate. Forward cast. Exhale and meditate. Be sure not to use a bobber and you're good to go.
This is a really, really good video for casting fiberglass rods. THANK YOU!
Thanks for being here - Glad it could help!

A BAG will probably be my next rod!
Brian spent a TON of time with it recently, and has become a huge fan of it. We definitely recommend!
Viewing from the UK folks..... this is one of the best channels for flyfishing out there. Wish i could get over and visit Mad River! 👍👍
Thanks for watching! Hopefully you can support the shop through the website!
