I think it's the same everywhere. Locals get so used to their surroundings that they stop seeing and appreciating it. Sometimes it takes seeing your city/country through the eyes of a foreigner to really appreciate it. I've never been, but from what I've seen your county is absolutely beautiful. I've seen several videos on RUclips about Kazakhstan. I saw a video about your capital city, and architecture is absolutely mindblowingly gorgeous, very east meets west. I Would really love to visit, but it's very very very far from me and I'm not rich. The one thing I'm not sure about is the extremely cold winters you get lol.😮
@@shaungordon9737yeap, you are absolutely right, winters are cold, and Astana thr capital is the second coldest capital in a world. It goes up to minus 40 in winter, but we are used to it and for us it is just a matter of clothes or layers of clothes:)))
When I went to Uni in Novosibirsk I met quite a few people from Almaty , all of them loved it so much and could talk for hours about its beauty. I'm from Oskemen, never been to Almaty hope to visit one day. Want to travel to K. With my kids , for them to see my Tugan Jer , as they were born in the UK

I worked in Almaty 10 years ago. Oil & Gas revenue has apparently energized their spending on infrastructure. Nice! It’s a lovely country and people. The Soviets didn’t do KZ any favors, their culture was all but totally repressed. Winters can be brutal. Also not sure if they have addressed residential heating infrastructure as people were burning wood for heat in the winter the air quality in the winter was not great. I am looking forward to going back to experience the new KZ. Thanks for sharing. The reason the ski areas are so nice is that they hosted international Winter sports.
Stop re-writing the history! Our culture has never been repressed otherwise why would we have so many concert halls, Opera and Ballet theatres and KazakhFilm studios which was established during WWII in Almaty on the basis of evacuated from Moscow Mosfilm!!! Why would we have a National instruments museum, State museums and Art museums? I am sick and tired of people like you spreading misconceptions and anti-Soviet propaganda!

Married with Thai lady now and looking to settle in ChingKhan Loei, but just about 10 years ago, I was dating a beautiful Kazakh lady and I met her in Almaty where she still leaves. Beautiful surroundings, beautiful people, I loved the tea culture, every restaurant, pastry or little eatery has a well flavored tea. Although majority of people leaving on low wage, I was shocked the luxury I found in Esentai mall in Almaty. Overall was a wonderful experience, planted plenty fruit trees in one of resorts around Almaty. Enjoy your trip, Kazakhstan has plenty to offer.
In Almaty every Soviet courtyard still has cherries, plums, pears, apples, apricots, walnuts, which delighted local children with their ripening in prior decades. With modern construction fruit trees are no longer popluar, unfortunately

Hi guys! A fellow Canadian here, from BC. Great video! We were in Almaty in August. One comment: during the Soviet era, the Cathedral Church wasn't abandoned. There was a museum in the church. That is probably saved the church from demolition.

They really took the tea from Tashkent (green tea with fresh lemon and honey is a popular type of tea there) and adapted it to the local taste.

I met someone a few years ago who had lived there for a few years teaching English and he loved it. He also recommended Kyrgyzstan which is apparently cheaper!
We’ll be heading to Kyrgyzstan after too 😄 It’s cheaper and you can feel more of the nomadic culture there.

Hi guys! A fellow Canadian here, from BC. Great video! We were in Almaty in August. One comment: during the Soviet era, the Cathedral Church wasn't abandoned. There was a museum in the church. That is probably saved the church from demolition.
