My family lives in Gomez Palacio and we visit every year, Let me tell you the Gorditas Javier are SO GOOD like especially the ones of "papa rojo" just watch this video makes me want to go to Mexico again and skip school. ( i'm even trying to convince my parents to let me move in Mexico and study there) I personally think Mexico is way better and more fun than here where I live (Florida) because its more lively and theres lot's of cultures you get to experience.
Mia I agree with you! I often compare the US with the UK (as much as many wouldn't admit it, they are very similar), but Mexico just has something extra that is difficult to describe! I was going to go into Javier! I will remember for next time. I should be back in Mexico in April and I'll probably be in Durango area again! And I hope you get to go to Mexico soon!
David this video made me cry. I used to have one of my best friends in my life she was from Gomez Palacio. Unfortunaly she passed away early this year, and I never got the chance to visit her city with her. She lived in Monterrey for 35 years but then due to the pandemic she had to go back and she never came back. I really can vouch for your gorditas statement that they are the best she used to bring me gorditas that one of her sisters made and they looked exactly the same and they were epic. And the Eiffel Tower and the LOVE sign reminded me alot of her because she loved the tower and the sign too. Its defintley a beautiful city. Thank you David for showcasing her city !

I’m 26 now and I’m always looking at architecture nowadays I’ve become a bit obsessed with it, México has some of the most beautiful buildings 😍 When I was in my early 20’s I wouldn’t have taken a blind bit of notice of the buildings, must be a sign I’m getting on in years haha

La Laguna is a place build by foreigners, French, Germans, Spanish, China, England, Lebanon and from the United States. If yoy go to the plaza de Armas in Torreón, 2 of the main buildings are, what it use to be, the bank of London and the bank of China.
Amazing history right. In 2 videos time the diversity is covered at the Teatro in Torreón. Plaza de Armas was where my drone got hit by pigeons lol but I managed to fix it lol

Necesitas estar fuera de la cuidad para darte cuenta lo asombroso que son nuestras ciudades, yo soy de Torreón, vivir en Texas , vieras como me arrepiento de no visitar Torreon, Gómez o Lerdo? Cuando tengo tiempo para ir a la comarca trató de disfrutarlo al máximo y visitar los lugares turísticos, museos . I always feel that Torreon people have an immense pride but don't really mention Durango, but I understand the brotherhood (or sister!). Torreon, Gomez and Lerdo are absolute gold. I left on Sunday (in Mexico City in real-time) and I miss it beyond belief. Not just those places, but the people! People are genuine, hardworking, and not afraid to be straight talking and honest. @@davidostrowski679 There is an underlying feeling of brotherhood in the Laguna region, even if some get trapped in silly competitions and/or friendly teasing between our cities/towns, truth is we have more things in common between ourselves than we do with our capital cities Saltillo and Durango: lots of people commuting back and forth daily, family members in both sides of the state border, etcetera. In some ways we work as one, in some others having to deal with two state administrations is a pain in the ass. Some years ago there were even some proposals to make a new state in Mexico called La Laguna with many municipalities from both Coahuila and Durango (something highly unlikely to happen).

Greetings from Gomez Palacio, in the Comarca Lagunera, the food you must try: Pan Francés and lonches, Flour Gorditas of chicharrón prensado (we also have grilled gorditas, corn flour gorditas, steam gorditas, and maybe many kinds more), you should try also a home made carne asada (barbecue) and if its posible you should ask for the tradition if the reliquias and try one also.
It's the best! I forgot to mention where my love of Art Deco came from. I was in Hilo, Hawaii 14 years ago and remember learning a lot there about a tsunami that destroyed everything and it was all rebuilt in the early 30s in art deco style. I have a vague recollection of being on an earthquake simulator!

In Elementary school we always celebrated Cino de Mayo. Yet I understand that this holiday is not celebrated in Mexico. As always, I enjoy your videos. I’ve lived in La Laguna for years. If I had known you were going to be here, I would have loved to have shown you around. Maybe next time we can do a collaboration and I’ll take you to some cool spots that you missed. I think the answer to your question regarding rivalry between Torreón and Gómez Palacio is this: People from both cities are first and foremost, Laguneros. The people in La Laguna have a lot of pride for their region. That being said, I would say that most people from Torreón and Gómez Palacio don’t carry an attitude of rivalry towards each other, though rarely you’ll hear a joke about one place or the other. Laguneros are nice people and that’s one of the things that makes La Comarca Lagunera such a cool place.

@@davidostrowski679 Matamoros is not a place to visite, there's no enough urban development. There's poverty in most of the City and it's not as safe as Torreón . I think you should go to Parras insted. But that's yo to you, be careful and stay safe remember that we're in the third Covid wave.

I always feel that Torreon people have an immense pride but don't really mention Durango, but I understand the brotherhood (or sister!). Torreon, Gomez and Lerdo are absolute gold. I left on Sunday (in Mexico City in real-time) and I miss it beyond belief. Not just those places, but the people! People are genuine, hardworking, and not afraid to be straight talking and honest. @@davidostrowski679 There is an underlying feeling of brotherhood in the Laguna region, even if some get trapped in silly competitions and/or friendly teasing between our cities/towns, truth is we have more things in common between ourselves than we do with our capital cities Saltillo and Durango: lots of people commuting back and forth daily, family members in both sides of the state border, etcetera. In some ways we work as one, in some others having to deal with two state administrations is a pain in the ass. Some years ago there were even some proposals to make a new state in Mexico called La Laguna with many municipalities from both Coahuila and Durango (something highly unlikely to happen).

Greetings from Gomez Palacio, in the Comarca Lagunera, the food you must try: Pan Francés and lonches, Flour Gorditas of chicharrón prensado (we also have grilled gorditas, corn flour gorditas, steam gorditas, and maybe many kinds more), you should try also a home made carne asada (barbecue) and if its posible you should ask for the tradition if the reliquias and try one also.

It's the best! I forgot to mention where my love of Art Deco came from. I was in Hilo, Hawaii 14 years ago and remember learning a lot there about a tsunami that destroyed everything and it was all rebuilt in the early 30s in art deco style. I have a vague recollection of being on an earthquake simulator!

Hello David. You are correct..not all of Mexico is the same..As a Mexican American growing up in Los Angeles many moons ago, I never heard of Dia de Los Muertos or what it meant. In Elementary school we always celebrated Cino de Mayo. Yet I understand that this holiday is not celebrated in Mexico. As always, I enjoy your videos. I feel that I learn a lot about my own culture from you "An Englishmen". Thank you and take care.

As a "gringo" from up north a bit (Chicago) I'm nevertheless fascinated by our southern neighbor and much appreciate your videos. Id love to travel the countryside but until things quiet down a bit, ill stay with your efforts as the next best thing.
I’ve lived in La Laguna for years. If I had known you were going to be here, I would have loved to have shown you around. Maybe next time we can do a collaboration and I’ll take you to some cool spots that you missed. I think the answer to your question regarding rivalry between Torreón and Gómez Palacio is this: People from both cities are first and foremost, Laguneros. The people in La Laguna have a lot of pride for their region. That being said, I would say that most people from Torreón and Gómez Palacio don’t carry an attitude of rivalry towards each other, though rarely you’ll hear a joke about one place or the other. Laguneros are nice people and that’s one of the things that makes La Comarca Lagunera such a cool place.

@@davidostrowski679 Matamoros is not a place to visite, there's no enough urban development. There's poverty in most of the City and it's not as safe as Torreón . I think you should go to Parras insted. But that's yo to you, be careful and stay safe remember that we're in the third Covid wave.

You have to try TORTILLONES DON LOLO en Torreón, ask 4 one of carne desherbada con rajas y queso, NO beans (it takes out the flavor), check up 4 the branches 1 of them is in a little danger area, and they just are open at night
