- The Secret Life of PD: It's not easy being at the peak of your career and then learning you have Parkinson's. Brian and I discuss our career path post-Parkinson's and how we try and manage and minimize the stress from our jobs that can increase our symptoms.
Just love your show ❤️
Thank you!
Binge watching old episodes...;-)
Though I'm only 53 I am just three years from being eligible to retire. My retirement won't be super lucrative but I would like that choice to quit working after many long years building a career. My typing is slow, my voice goes in and out, and often my mental energy wanes. It's difficult keeping up. Some colleagues know about my PD but most don't. I appreciate all your insight and advice, keep it up.
Thank you. I tried talking to HR and they weren’t interested unless I was asking for an accommodation. Enjoy your show. I was diagnosed at 56 4 years ago so I still need to work
I am retired, but I admire anyone who still works with PD.
I’m newly diagnosed and just discovered your channel. I’ve been transparent with work and have been very fortunate to have a supportive firm and colleagues. I’m happy to have found you guys as I adjust to my new reality. Thanks for sharing.
PS: I’m 58
Thanks for tuning in! I'm glad you have such a strong support system. It's such an important part of our journey.
I too believe in being honest with everyone you have to deal/interact with as anyways these PD symptoms can't be kept hidden the more we try to suppress them the more we are prone to the stress & anxiety consequently getting into the vicious cycle of deterioration of them. So it's a best bet to be honest with yourself first, then your closed & loved ones, finally to the world which is an inevitable part of our life. And yes, definitely we get a good support at times it's so overwhelming that we tend to outperform to their minimal expectations then again it leads to the contentment & feel good hormones secretion !! So win-win situation for all. But path to this glory is quite tough & there we need to be strong enough to believe in ourselves & then get the support from the close family. Looking at our genuine efforts to struggle, survive & contribute positively at your workplace, gratification gesture towards the ones who stood by us during our bad days along with a strong support system gets formed miraculously ! My experience as a working professional, a researcher, an academician, single parent & 1st generation of this never known before diagnosed ailment, certifies that !
Hi,
I enjoy your commentaries. Keep them coming!! I am 68 and first symptoms came in Sept 2017. A little tremor in-between my pointer finger and my thumb on the left hand. I would like to hear a lot more about what medications and how much people are taking for various stages or time they have been diagnosed. Keep up the good work..
