The exhaust note I've found has got better with age...3rd gear from 4000rpms onwards is my favourite note. Saying all that, I still miss the sound of my Abarth 500. I'm glad I'm also not the only one who thinks it should sit a bit lower...a few mm's lower and it'd really look the part.
I've got the Polo Gti 1.8L Turbo as well. I've done the OEM+ Software tune, intake, and res-delete as thus far. I've got to say... It drives more like a dream than stock! Haha
REAL TORQUE I've ordered Eibach Springs. Next month they will be installed. Then the Polo comes 2cm deeper to the ground. I hope it looks good and the driving stays comfortable.
Like - performance, comfort, interior space for supermini, styling, 5 door option (unlike fez ST). Dislike - Clunking brakes (when braking after having moved back or forward, pads moving in caliper), temperamental touch screen in cold weather, poor tyre wear (bridgestone's), sidelights do not illuminate when unlocking car. Excellent car lot more pros than cons.
Don't know why your GTI makes the beeping noise with the key in the ignition and the door open, mine doesn't. However, my biggest hate for this car is when it rains. You open the window even a little bit, woosh, water from the roof ends up directly on the interior door card - more specifically, RIGHT ON THE WINDOW SWITCHES. I agree the height could do with being dropped about an extra 20mm, and I think this would help to resolve some of the over steer I experience from time to time as the rear end gets a bit tail happy. I love my Polo GTi and I completely agree with everything you have said. Another irritating issue, but kinda comes with the territory trade off of interior space, is the boot size, it's tiny, lol. That said, I still love this car and it looks even more awesome in Blue Silk :D
Test drove a GTI before getting my 1.8TSI Cupra Black, chose the Cupra purely due to the sportier feel, weirdly the Polo GTI is smaller inside from a driving position (I'm 6'4") not to mention the Cupra is a rare sight in comparison! Have to agree with you on all of the engine points you made, it pulls hard no matter what
Cathy Andrews yeah that's right, they only made the 1.8TSI Ibiza Cupra for a year (16/66/17), so hopefully I could have my hands on an appreciating asset one day
My biggest complain about the car is the ride hight. It looks like a monstertruck - especially in the rear. This is the first thing I will change on it, once I payed it off...
The lack of standard features on the Polo is madding. I have one in Pearl Black with the Park and Cruise pack which they were offering for free for a while. I couldn't bare the car without these features. It's simply a must have and its ridiculous it doesn't come as standard.
I have also a Polo GTI 230 and im super happy with it :D I have installed a Remus Valve Exhaust and it sounds mad! A mix between a Fiat Abarth and a a45 AMG :D
Yeah the lack of standard kit is a abit of a rip off, I had to add the following options to make it half decent.. Convenience Pack - Polo £245 Sport performance pack - Polo £260 Parking pack - Polo £450 Car-Net App-Connect £165 Front centre armrest with storage compartment £110 Still if you order via the likes of carwow or drive the deal you can get a good saving but it still puts the price up quite abit from a stock GTI.
Ordered one with cruise control and parking sensors without the sport mode dampers. :) Yes I am aware of the slight lack of exhaust sound. Perhaps I install a Supersprint exhaust to it...
Thanks Real Torque! Its going to be in silver metallic and have alarm as well. :) Likely some paint protection when car arrives, perhaps Ceramic PRO 9H.
Got a 6c GTi identical to yours..............and it's bloody brilliant............. absolutely love it..............now I understand how hard it is to keep a white car clean...................holds off the latest shape Focus STs very nicely.................. Apparently..........lol..😉
Totally agree with you the Bridgestone tyres are useless. Had this car for 6 months now and they provide no grip at all! Hoping to get them changed ASAP
Hoping to get one of these soon. Only thing is the insurance. I will be driving for a year now come May and will have 1 year NCD. Who’s a good insurance company to go with who aren’t to dear and don’t have a black box policy?
Thank you Buddy, there will be plenty more content up of the GTI! The car is on a PCP mate, don't really see the point of buying a brand new car outright.
subbed m8.mine's is white manual with climate control, parking sensors, cruise control and sat nav but i don't have the sunroof😡. Its a great little thing
White Anglo Saxon Protestant. Thanks buddy! And that's a nice spec man. All I got was sun roof, oryx white, sport pack and convenience pack. Thought the car came with parking sensors standard
Hi, Were you driving around Mobberly near the church on the corner? - !!! - Great car the Polo Gti - You could use lowering springs maybe from VW Racing but some of the ride quality would suffer a little but you'd corner like you were on rails!!!
great video, i agree with your comments, am looking into getting one myself, your steering wheel looks different is it non leather, I've asked my local dealer if i could order the car minus leather, for personal ethical reasons! I'm still waiting to hear back. love the look with the sunroof too
ok so news on internet says the new polo out end of this year will closely be followed by the GTI early 2018 with the mrk5 golf 2.0 engine, question is do i wait and see or go get the 1.8 version??
Karen Church hmmm it's a tricky one. Personally I think the current gen GTI is great. But when the new one is announced prices for the 6c will drop. It all depends personally. Apparently the new shape will only be available in a 5 door version, which ruins it for me
it's tough, there's also talk of it being lowered, haven't been in a 3door (i have a 3dr golf ATM, as prefer it's lines) but find the doors heavy and less easy in small parking spaces, I'd imagine this not such an issue with the polo??
Great video, are you confusing the xds with esp? Xds won't stop you crashing, it aids traction only by sending when a wheel slips under power and diverts power away from that wheel to the other and vice versa mimicking a lsd. I personally on the polo think it struggles a little and needs a mechanical one. What do you think to the gearbox feel? I love my polos torque as do you but thing the gears are a little too long? Oh and notchy! Any plans to modify?
How are you buddy? Thanks for the comments much appreciated. I think I did say XDS and how it breaks an inside wheel and gets you round the corner. Personally I love the gearbox, especially a second gear pull ha ha ha. The only issue I have with the gearbox is first gear. No plans just as yet to modify the car, as I'm still debating whether or not to upgrade
REAL TORQUE I may have misunderstood that one! Yeah doing 70+ in 2nd is very very long! I think it just dips out of power band after each change?? I've only leased mine, and tbh in this little package makes me want the golf gti or if I can afford/justify the payments the R. This car has helped me really fall for the VW gti brand
Gaz B I think the 2nd gear is just powerful but does die down when you're hitting 50ish. Personally though out of the golf and the polo, the polo is quicker in the realistic world. The golf r is an awesome bit of kit. But would you rather an s3?
REAL TORQUE I have driven both the R and the S3 but nowhere near close to the limits of either. I just prefer to look of the R and the journo's seem to rate the R over the S3 too. I know the polo has a good 0-60 but I would expect a golf gti to have more oomph once the weight disadvantage has been overcome. I think it's a more mature choice too and looks the part too.
Hi, do you have any video or photo where I can see the beam pattern of the headlights? I've spent hours trying to find any photo of it, but I haven't found anything :(
i coud agree to all of what you said though the noice with the ignition, why dont you just turn the ignition off? if its on for the radio use the radio will stay on when you turn it off, the radio will stop if you take the key out
Mate the last one use to drive me insanee!!!! But I managed to get it coded out easily aswell with other things and must say I have a stage 1 dsg but sounds much better with some good fuel dsg farts for days!!
I think you should have gone for a peugeot 208 gti with the issues your having... It is manual, sounds better, rides lower, better traction as uses pilot sport 3's as stock. Nice interior, comes with ALL extras etc and finally sooooo much cheaper. To let you know ive just bought a polo gti because I want 5 door and i like the softer ride and got the dsg for convenience
208 GTIs interior compared to a Polo GTIs interior are leagues apart. French againts German 🤷🏻♂️ The Polo GTI comes as manual and DSG. your only valid point is that the 208 GTI is cheaper it’s also slower 😏
Are you sure its a 45L tank? the canadian version says 50L I cant imagine them changing that sort of detail between countries. The extra 5L maybe there, but Reserve. so might be difficult to use all 50L.
Mate liked the vid and agree with your views but would add no point revving this engine to the red line its all mid range power, and once you do have fun in it , it drinks fuel at a shocking rate
@Chris Yeah would be difficult to go back to a manual now, so much easier with DSG for daily usage. It's a really good gearbox, some auto's are awful but I really have no complaints with the VW one.
These older videos with you and your GTI convinced me to get my GTi. Quick question, i know you obviously don't own the car anymore, but did you have an Alcantara cover for the steering wheel?
I have this car for almost two years and i hate stiff suspension. On not perfect roads its very uncomfortable. And i very dislike slowly falling revs.In first gear with little gas in around 2000 rpm i change gear to second and rpms didnt drop but raise a bit and slowly falls down.So when i put gear it shakes with motor and its very annoying. With fulll gas around 3000 or 4000, changing gear its ok.
Liking and agreeing everything in video then disagreed with the fuel tank and optional extras. The fuel tank needs to be smaller, Why add more weight, it is supposed to be light weight smallish engined fun car.
I kind of agree. I took the high price and low standard equipment on the GTi to be you paying for engine, lignter car and probably low production exclusivity. I am probably wrong there is probably a marketing guy who worked out that they could fleece it that way. The plastic sunvisor and carpet where an optional extra on my other car. It still makes me laugh.
Couldn't agree more with that ignition noise. And the lack of kit. I have a Match and it's got far more on it than the gti. It makes no sense whatsoever.
lee white thank you haha. I think it's just a way of making money. Like you see the GTI at the price it is, and think 'yeah that's a good price' not realising it doesn't come with anything. Still is a decent price, but should come with more standard equipment. My other half has a match, and rubs in the fact that she has cruise control and I don't haha
@@realtorque I know this is an ancient video but I’m surprised cruise wasn’t standard. I have it on my bluegt (poor man’s gti) and was under the impression it was standard spec.
Hi, great video!
That beeping sound at the end warns you that your headlights are on. Try to switch them off and the beeping is out ;)
The exhaust note I've found has got better with age...3rd gear from 4000rpms onwards is my favourite note. Saying all that, I still miss the sound of my Abarth 500. I'm glad I'm also not the only one who thinks it should sit a bit lower...a few mm's lower and it'd really look the part.
Another enjoyable video mate. I like your down to earth attitude and the fact that your driving a car that's not a m135i or golf r.
dlite1972 thank you man! Really appreciate that buddy!
I've got the Polo Gti 1.8L Turbo as well. I've done the OEM+ Software tune, intake, and res-delete as thus far. I've got to say... It drives more like a dream than stock! Haha
Strawberry Short Cake really? I'm keen on modding mine, not really sure what to do first
Great video bra, i'm still in college, i hope one day i will buy GTi.
Cold air intake, APR Stage I ECU tune, lowered springs and Pilot Sport 4's on mine and it is PHENOMINAL. Addresses the issues you report report.
Names Demean Us Both I'll bare that in mind buddy! Thanks for the advise!
can you get a crackle remap for this? i’ve got a full scorpion exhaust on mine getting intake and intercooler done before i apr stage 2 it😏
I'm so glad someone agrees with me about the ride height bloody miles off the ground and good video mate I couldn't agree more
James Young thanks buddy! Any suggested videos to do?
REAL TORQUE I've ordered Eibach Springs. Next month they will be installed. Then the Polo comes 2cm deeper to the ground. I hope it looks good and the driving stays comfortable.

Cathy Andrews yeah that's right, they only made the 1.8TSI Ibiza Cupra for a year (16/66/17), so hopefully I could have my hands on an appreciating asset one day
Cathy Andrews that doesn't make sense as they aren't making a new shape Ibiza cupra? Top spec is a 150bhp fr
Just bought this, its so cute! thanks for the review. Helpful
Shee Paul congrats! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did
Great video. Agree with all of it after owning mine for three years. Well done! Thumbs up!

Cool review...
Currently owning a Comfortline TSI but seriously thinking about getting the GTI
Yeah the lack of standard kit is a abit of a rip off, I had to add the following options to make it half decent..
Convenience Pack - Polo £245
Sport performance pack - Polo £260
Parking pack - Polo £450
Car-Net App-Connect £165
Front centre armrest with storage compartment £110
Still if you order via the likes of carwow or drive the deal you can get a good saving but it still puts the price up quite abit from a stock GTI.
dsldude1152 my options are very similar. I thought the car came with Parking sensors standard! So a bit gutted about that
8:05 I'M DYINNNGGG🤣🤣🤣
How tall are you? Would you recommend at 6 foot?
Lack of decent armrest. Or the fact that the handbreak is under the armrest was just a dealbreaker for me.
Ordered one with cruise control and parking sensors without the sport mode dampers. :) Yes I am aware of the slight lack of exhaust sound. Perhaps I install a Supersprint exhaust to it...
tokobjork good spec man!
tokobjork hey man, check my vid out on my channel about a polo gti custom exhaust - great vid btw. 😀
Thanks Real Torque! Its going to be in silver metallic and have alarm as well. :) Likely some paint protection when car arrives, perhaps Ceramic PRO 9H.
