One of the interesting/realistic things is that you see him reloading often - many "action" movies the protagonists always seem to have pistols that never seem to run out of ammo, whereas in this you frequently see him have to reload - sometimes when it seems inconvenient too. Very realistic.
He made it torturing. That’s why he didn’t shoot him [Josef] in the club when he had him dead to rights. He wanted him to feel fear for his life. Because he obviously wasn’t scared and didn’t take the threat of John seriously by partying it up in a club. When he shot at him as he ran away he wasn’t trying to hit him. Kind of like shooting really close to someone’s feet that they always do in the westerns. Notice how scared he was in the warehouse. Even before John showed up. Remember, they were warned John knew where they were located and that an expert assassin was coming for him. Just sitting there wondering when he is going to get there is very torturous to the psyche.

It takes .3 seconds to pull a trigger. So he gave up TEN opportunities to kill him, because he was mad that he was living carefree. He wanted him shaken and scared for a bit. Like the frayed guy that he was towards the end.
Keanu learned how to do most of the fighting and gun play and driving. Thankfully, he's also known to be one of the nicest people in the world. The guy who plays Vigo's main henchman also plays the character "Mayhem" in insurance commercials.
'I'd like to have a talk with him' , to which Winston responds 'I'm familiar with the parlance.. ' He knew exactly what John intended, and a conversation wasn't it.
That impossible task he had to do to get out, was that he had to kill off all of Vigo's enemies (other mob bosses)....in one night. That's why Vigo said "the bodies he buried that day, laid a foundation of what we are now."
When John held a gun to Francis's head, John commented that he'd lost weight. Francis said sixty pounds - code for there were about sixty men inside waiting for John. That's why he let him live (Thank you SIR)😄
Francis was also someone who knew John, and may have been in Vigo's employment back when John was still working for Vigo. As such, there was a level of respect there. Most of the others were newer, or otherwise thought they could take John on. If some of them had avoided fighting, instead of going after John, chances are that they'd also be spared. Though possibly not by Vigo.
A detail often overlooked is the attendant at the hotel. His name is, Charon. The symbolism of John giving him the gold coins is pretty cool if you know who Charon is in mythology. Like others have mentioned, Keanu's firearms work is extrodinary. As his his fighting ability. He trained under Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and worked with Taran Butler from Taran Tactical. I love the “No more guns, John.” And he responds “No more bullets”, before tossing the gun. Meaning, John would’ve just shot him if he had even one left. They fight hand-to-hand not because of movie BS where the protagonist just has to beat them fairly with their hands, or to prove he’s better a better fighter, but only because he’s out of ammo.

I think after John was captured and had that talk about his life being the reason behind his suffering, was probably the reason John killed the son so quickly. Because he realised he was nothing, and he just needed to end it and move on. Because Johns own vengeance was only serving to prolong his own suffering and felt like he's betrayed his wife by returning to his old ways. It represented the soullessness of his past life and his complete return to his former self. The callousness of being a hitman.
my theory about the policeman... the reason why he knows John Wick and the reason why he didnt arrest him was because.... maybe the cop was also in the same line of business as John, or atleast is tied with the mob that's why he knew John personally, they've probably worked multiple jobs together in the past before "laying low" as a cop, while John retired from the lifestyle. again, just a theory
The producers have said that the police know about the criminal organization that John was a part of, but as long as they don’t involve civilians, the police leave them be.
I’d love to see a prequel to John Wick. One that shows him meeting his wife and what he has to do to get out of the world he’s in. When the dog ran out to go to the bathroom it cost the production company $5,000 to show the dogs poop. They couldn’t get him to go so they did it with CGI. The scene in the club where he was fighting Keanu had the flu with around 103 fever and still kicked butt.

That car was so obviously not a Boss 429 in most scenes. They should have said it was a 428 CobraJet or at lest used the correct hood scoop and decals. It appeared to be a Sportsroof GT or Mach 1 with a repaint, front spoler, rear wing and cosmetic (fake) hoodscoop with Magnum 500 wheels in most scenes.
Check out the movie " The Equalizer " . It stars Denzel Washington and has a plot similar to the one in John Wick. Denzel's character -- the equalizer -- takes care of the bad guys in sometimes unique ways. There are 2 movies in the series . " The Taken " is another real good action movie where the main character is out to rescue his daughter from the bad guys with " ... a very particular set of skills . " Keep up the good work .
personally, i think Marcus, played by Willem Dafoe, took the job of killing John Wick, so that no one else would be offered the job......think about it, if Marcus declined the offer, then Viggo would have gone to someone else, to see if the other person would do it.......by ACCEPTING the offer, Marcus made certain that HIS HANDS were on the wheel, and HE HAD control, and more importantly, he could PROTECT John
Almost the whole movie was filmed in Brooklyn except the cemetery which is in Queens and John's house, which is in New Jersey in the movie, is actually on Long Island just East of Brighton Beach on Coney Island. It would have made more sense to make his house on Long Island, going all the way to Brighton from Jersey to fill up his gas tank is a huge waste of gas, JFK, the airport in South Brooklyn where John went to drive out his frustrations is closer to Jersey than SouthEast Coney Island is.

Reason why John didn't kill him straight away is to put the fear of god in him (or in this case reaper, since that's what John Wick is, a Grim Reaper). His friend took the contract so he can be there "hunting" John but he was actually helping him so he would not raise any suspicion. Great movie and great reaction!
I got the movie a couple of years ago, on blu-ray. I didn't know anything about it, I hadn't heard or read or watched anything about it. I was in a store, I saw the cover and I was looking for an action movie to buy. Mr Reeves is always a solid choice so I took the chance and bought it. When I watched it I was, like many others, grinning all the way to the end. Such an enjoyable action movie! I know there have been sequels, but I avoid watching them for now as I like, for now, the idea of it being a one off thing.
why dont people catch on to the fact that she paid for the dog..... the dog was trained on delivery.....how is this a hard concept knowing his life style.
