I hope that foam padding is closed cell. If it retains moisture you will have a problem. Great idea. I have HT installed directly on my boat aluminum surface for over a year and its been great.

Interesting stuff! PERSONALLY, I'm not a fan of camo, but thats just me. I imagine that you're going to be going duck/goose hunting with it. I can see how this material could really quiet down the boat. Thanks for the video

I would love to add 'under padding' for a softer base to walk on, but all I think about is just more material to retain water and that is what foam does unless it's closed cell foam.
The Photographer totally understand that concern. From our experience of having this installed now for over 6 months we have not found that to be an issue at all. The way it is installed the hydroturf covers the foam padding and it doesn’t allow water to penetrate. Even on the few edges where the foam is exposed it has not been absorbing water. We installed the same foam padding on top of one of our coolers and it’s sat outside through all weather elements and it isn’t holding water either.

This was very very helpfull wher did y'all buy the padding and the camo 3m cover. And i must say kinda made my heart so happy to see a young couple like y'all doing this together as one the way it needs to be i pray that more young folks see this and just might lean to spend time together thanks for sharing..

Mark KIDCOCHIESE Garry thank you! It took longer than we expected and there are a few things we would do differently if we could go back and do it again. But overall we are extremely happy with it. Over 6 months into having it installed and there have been no issues at all.

Sportswoman Courtney What would you do differently, I have a 16 ft stick steer boat that needs the carpet replaced but I am thinking about replacing all the wood with aluminum and the covering the aluminium with something and this looks like the perfect way to do it. I was going to just paint it until I watched your video.
Andrew Smith a non skid paint is far less expensive and much easier to do.
1OFGODSOWN So you are saying to just remove the carpet and paint the wood. I guess it would work as the wood still seems to be fine. I guess the paint would seal the wood. I want to be able to rinse it out like you could if it was fiberglass

Looks great guys. Just wondering why you used a glue for the Hydro Turf when it has a 3m backing on it?
A lot of these jon boats with factory floors have anti-skid textured paint on the deck. The 3M would PROBABLY hold up fine on its own, but adding the contact cement gives another layer of protection to prevent the EVA from bubbling up due to water intrusion from the edges.
So you used 5 sheets of 47x86? i just recently ordered two sheets hoping to cover the front and rear deck. I actually have the same boat.

Seen quite a few boats that after 18months the material is cracking and crumbling. These boats were garage kept, must be due to texas heat? Is that just the thinner product or does this 9mm material do it too?
I bet this is quite expensive. It looks great but maybe not in a lot of budgets. I see no mention of the cost anywhere?

Where did you order the hydro turf ? And how much do you have in this if you don’t mind me asking ?
I have sheets of hydro turn right now as soon as I finish rigging my boat I'll add it. Glad I watched they told me no additional adhesive was required. Where did you get the extra padding?
You dont HAVE to have the extra adhesive. But it is recommended. This stuff is going down for the long haul so its good to take the extra precaution of using the DAP adhesive too. You can get the underpadding directly from hydroturf :)

Extra padding came directly from Hydroturf as well. If you go to their website look under "Sheets Hydro-Turf" it is labeled "Underpad". Hope that helps.
Where is the best place to get this hydro turf?
May I ask where did you order this from
Courtney, I'm curious if I need the DAP contact cement with the 3m self adhesive hydro turf. Is the 3m adhesive not sufficient without the contact cement? I'd hate to pay an additional $40/sheet for an adhesive that requires contact cement. Might as well purchase the turf without the 3m adhesive... Would love the help. Thanks!
Langdon Attaway hydroturf recommends for proper installation you have both the 3m adhesive and the contact cement. It helps to ensure longevity. That’s how we installed it on our last boat, which sat outside in all weather conditions for over 3 years and we never had an issue with the edges coming undone, which would be my concern if we hadn’t installed it the way hydroturf recommended.

Did you order your console for steering the boat or build it yourself?
The boat came with the center console starring. Caleb has made lost of modifications to our boat but that was factory.

Will that foam pad hold water and possibly mold?
It does not hold water and we've never had an issue with it molding. It was on our last boat for years with no issues. That boat was stored outside in lots of different weather conditions it also went in fresh and salt water. No issues.

Can you put it down without the pad?
Absolutely! On our first boat we did not have the extra padding and it worked wonderfully. However, if you can add the padding I definitely suggest it, if you stand for long amount of time. We didn't realize how much we would love the padding until we got it. That being said, I know budgets can be tight so whatever you can afford is the best option. Some hydroturf even without the padding is better than no hydroturf.
