Truly one of the best episodes. ALL, great actors and characters, EB, JF, TC & BH. Many have passed and will be missed. One of the core and iconic Sitcoms of the 60's. Gavin Macleod still lives in Palm Springs CA I believe and is definitely considered a TV and Movie Great. He's been on the screens since the late 50's. Incredible, and may he stay in good health at 89. This episode focussed on an annoying silly bird that looked like a Toucan and sounded like that of a native Australian bird, the Kookaburra. With Gum trees known to be in California, you'd reckon you would find a Kookaburra? No, the writers had to make sure it was a South American Toucan with the voice of a Kookaburra. This had to be a set up to stir the known Australian audience where the series had wide appeal. What a legacy these actors have created and the show still is popular to this day.
Paul you are so correct. As an Australian I find it so annoying that they use a Toucan sounding like a Kookaburra. Also when they use the call of the cockatoo in the jungle of Africa.

The Gripple bird's sound is an Australian Kookaburra
Fun episode but the bird sound is actually that of a kookaburra laughing not a toucan.
@Songs Mirth Toucans are native to the Neotropics, from Southern Mexico, through Central America, into South America south to northern Argentina.

Kookaburra is the national of Australia.🤩🤩🤩
The Kookaburra is a member of the kingfisher family.🤩🤩🤩
The use of a toucan was probably due to its physical profile looking larger and more prominent on the black & white small TV screens of that era.
