My top 3 Dream Theater albums - Metropolis pt 2: Scenes from a Memory - Train of Thought - Black Clouds and Silver Linings After Portnoy's quit the band is a little boring. Mike Mangini is fast but he seems like a robot playing drums. DT with Portnoy is way too better.
This guy truly has no identifiable weak points in his drumming technique and skill. He could session for any other drummer on the spot. He's a modern legend and needs recognition
Hes very fast and accurate, but he has very little flavor. Ive watched a lot of his vids and he has 3 kinds of fill and a bunch of tricks for the gram but im yet to hear something that makes me go wow, That sounded great. I want to see something that contributes to the music, not just looks impressive for 8 second shorts. Composing something that gives the song heart is what makes a good drummer. Not just outrunning the metronome
This is one of my most favorite things. The difference between students of music, and jacka*** who learn to play in their garage. The difference is night and day. Dream Theatre are extremely educated students of the art, and it’s more than apparent. Great job on the riff
Well I just don't like his style.İ don't hear anything unique.İt looks like all of the drummers in the world mashed up.Maybe that's why people like it idk.İts just i don't like it.
Dude… !!! Loving the videos but also finding so much music I haven’t listened to before! Dream theatre are awesome and yet somehow I must be living under a rock and only discovered them due to you! Sending love from Aus
God I gotta get me some drums somehow someway… 37 years old started playing when I was 13 and six months to age 14 went to full marching band level.. Awesome chops brother!!

This man's dedication is amazing. How are there enough hours in the day for him to practice, make killer videos, lift and LIVE LIFE. He doesn't seem to break a sweat
I have been watching you play now for quite sometime. But you are starting to worry me young man, have you ever heard that SPEED kills. You are awesome. Love to watching you 😂
How can a layperson tell that what they are watching is truly spectacular… He leaves the original drum track playing in the background and you can’t really tell till he stops playing altogether.
I once was in a certain “club” where center pieces were something of the norm. Never took part but I must say the show was quite a hit and then some… Ah sweet memories…
FUCK YES! "This Dying Soul.." man! I was just about too recommended that one yesterday for the Intro Vid but I had figured you had already done it. And now you have! 🤘 Fingers crossed for "The Blister Exists" tho!
Train of thought is an amazing album. You fuckin nailed this 🤘
✊✊✊⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Yes, I love it for it's raw heaviness. For me it's my favourite
Train of Thought is an all time fucking album start to finish.

So: who is He?
We call it “tall Poopy syndrome here in Australia. Finding fault in something because it’s that good.
@@slickstrings idk if uve gotten a different perspective, but you should check out his drum solos. Lots of flavor in those
Somehow, I just _knew_ it was going to be "Honor Thy Father." 🤘🏻
Classics never die :D
@@rot_studios That made me feel suddenly old...this still seems new to me...

Honor Thy Father - Train of Thought (Album) Dream Theater 🔥🔥🔥
I'm glad I'm not the only one who was expecting 6:00. Badass though.
also a great intro indeed. very funky :)
6:00 is what played in my head but when he started playing I thought "oh yea honor thy father that makes sense"
My top 3 DT albums:

Train of Thought
Systematic Chaos
You absolutely nailed this drum intro btw 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
How in the WORLD does he get that foot pedal beating 1 mil beats per minute?!?! I’m not even a drummer and this guy blows me away. Just awesome!!
Two feet
I feel like he's staring through my soul saying "you will never be me!"
you can be him, for the low price of practicing 8 hours a day lol
😂
I feel like he's staring into my soul saying "where's the cocaine?"

It's always inspiring to see musicians being in control of their instrument. Awesome stuff!
Your timing and swing is incredible.
My favorite drum intro by anyone, period. And you fucking nailed it. Damn.
That hoodie gets me everytime 😂
“Cocaine everywhere” 💀😂😂
It's everywhere!
There are not many who could fill in for Portnoy. Amazing!

Probably my favorite song from the album. That intro goes hard
one of the best intros, period.
Easily my favorite Dream Theater album! You nailed it, sir!
I've been playing drums for 55 years. You are on another level man. Love your stuff. Cheers!
You’re an uncontrollable force on drums 😮
He s VERY controlled l think 😅
The best intro and solid song, I was hoping you did this one. Didn't realize you already did 😮 . Epic 😎
yo sabia que iba a ser esta cancion...... BRUTAL!!! es tremendo album .... saludos desde Colombia monstruo!
Muy sobreactuado, prefiero bateristas más.simples....se.nota que quiere que las personas lo vean como un super cool drummer.
Good Lord!!! I wanna see more of this guy! As skilled or more-so than any drummer I've had the pleasure of hearing/ watching.
Unbelievable Track, Mike Portmonee at his best. And you nailed it too!
Mike who, yes Mike Photoshopped?
1: A Dramatic Turn of Events
2: Train of Thought
3: Awake
4: Falling into Infinity
5: Systematic Chaos

Yes, this is the most amazing drum intro
brother, excellent work on the drum set. You are right with her on "You". Well done!!! You delight both my eye and ear.😊
Damn, I was just gonna suggest this! Got to see Portnoy play this live right before he left the band. You’re both amazing!!
Love Honor thy father. You nailed it!
Did you know they wrote and recorded that album in 2 weeks that’s insane !
What's the name of the album?
@@8963nw Train of Thought. Came out in 2003.
May be the heaviest album DT ever has done! Its an amazing album from the first note to the last. My fave song is In the Name of God!!!!!
@@shemsuhor8763 Agreed. It’s the best song on the album.
Yup and it’s their best album imo
That separation is insane. (Anti flam sep) amazing
Full cover of “Pnuema” by Tool please. You beat Danny Carey’s drum cam video in awesomeness, you win the drumming world title.
Danny Carey is overrated AF
God I gotta get me some drums somehow someway…
37 years old started playing when I was 13 and six months to age 14 went to full marching band level..
Awesome chops brother!!
Hermano no hay ni un solo video de ti que no me deje con la boca abierta, que Dios te bendiga ese gran talento 🙏👍
OMG RIGHT?! 😮🤩🤘🏻
You totally nailed it 👏 🤘
It's definitely one of the best DY drum intros.
This man is insanely good.
Honor thy Father rocks, you sir nailed it!!!!

song name? gotta dive into dream theatre
That's what I was gonna ask too
Honor Thy Father
Images and Words album was their best, IMHO anyway.
Honor thy father
Honor thy Father from Train of Thought
Honor Thy Father is a beast of a song. This is the song that got me into Dream Theater in high school !
He stops for a bump every time he throws on that sweatshirt! Now we know why he can drum like that!!
How can a layperson tell that what they are watching is truly spectacular…
He leaves the original drum track playing in the background and you can’t really tell till he stops playing altogether.

Incredible hand and. Foot speed. So damn precise.

The fact that he did it with half the drum kit is even more amazing
Damn Son… insane playing 😎
YOU MAKE THE MOST BADASS CONTENT EVER BRO!!!!
I completely agree. Best intro ever.
Whole album is amazing but yes this one track has their best drum intro.
It truly is! ❤❤❤
I knew this was gonna be "Honor Thy Father"!

PLAY YOUR SET WITH MORE ROTOR TOMS.
LETS SEE YOU ROLL ACROSS YOUR SET!
I always wondered what this song would sound like with zero soul.
That guy is phenomenal
Incomprehensible.
Thanks for giving DT some respect and recognition
THERE IT IS
As good as it gets right here. No matter the song he makes it way better . 🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁.. And that is what a good Drummer does.
Many people can play
But, not everyone can create
Good job mike portnoy ❤
I'm very impressed with way you play ... When you play looks like so easy for you, looks like you are doing a fried egg
I love his sweatshirt, had one just like it.
1000% agree. always live seeing you do DT!🤘🔥
Techique with absolutely no feeling.
Your footwork is unbelievably good!!and not just the footwork everything...
Damn I really need to go back and listen to Dream Theatre. I forgot how fucking sick Portnoy was on this album.
Love EES but it would be good to hear his incredible skills working some Carter Beauford, Dave Weckl, or even Todd Sucherman
there best album BY FAR. Hoping we get a record in this style now THE MAN is back
And these drums are so much better recorded than in the ACTUAL dream theater recording.
Meu melhor aluno... ta mandando bem... meu orgulho...😅
