I guess I had never even seen live clips of AA - only videos - only albums, tape /cds. Totally makes sense and was totally awesome! Thanks so much for watching!!
It was Mike Leander, the producer of the Glitter Band, who popularised the double drum sound. The Glitter Band used it very effectively on a number of their records. The drums provide an incredible back beat.
Saw him last night in Los Angeles. Way, way heavier than I expected. He was really showing his punk roots. Absolutely wonderful show. Incredible energy at any age, and I can't believe he's nearly 70.
Hello there! as fan of Adam's for 40 years,I really appreciate your review! I seen him five times strip tour in 83 being my first concert, then vive le rock, persuasion tour (when I first met him and kissed his mouth!, then wonderful, where I met him (and Marco) again! Last show I saw was Kings. Before the internet I was basically alone in my adam ant world I had no one to sing the songs with and I had no one who even knew the songs anyway! He is so much more than goody two shoes and stand and deliver which are basically the two songs that anybody would know about. Being a room with so many people that know all the songs like I do is the best feeling I started crying immediately upon walking into the last show. The energy was just awesome! Outside of him being my first crush, his cleverness and intelligence drew me in closer! Being 12 he really opened my eyes to so many things, words , sayings ( I didn't know what risque or innuendo meant or digress, beg to differ) He has amazing production skills, his placement of sounds ,drums, chants and subtle nuances (think Picasso visita or juanito the bandito)are so perfect.i love his singing and speaking voice. Not to mention there are soooooo many good songs that nobody even knows about! it's just mind-blowing ! I also recommend if you haven't read his memoir stand and deliver you absolutely should listen to it ashe reads it on audio as well. I don't know why I posted all of that anybody who's here is probably a fan anyways and has their own awesome adam ant stories of what he means to them. I just know that it was amazing to tell him in person that he changed my life and that I don't remember much about my life and who I was before him. I said to him "Adam, if ever you feel down about things in your life , and maybe you don't know how to feel about your life and your place in it, just remember that so many people love and admire you and that you changed so many people's lives with your one life. I'm so glad for that" I feel so lucky that he's in my life forever.❤
I saw Adam twice in the 80s in Michigan, one more time in my birthplace town of Pontiac and 2 more times in Nashville. I actually met him in 2013. I love him so much! Gonna see him in TN at the Caverns, and take a new generation with me this time, my 2 daughters who grew up listening to Adam. Glad you enjoyed his show! He puts on a right proper show!❤
The two drummers is a take on African Barundi Drumming. The emphasis on heavy drumming that IS present in tribal ceremonies. This style was adopted by Adam and the Ants and Bow Wow Wow. (listen to intro of I Want Candy). I think it sounds AMAZING. Adam started to wane of that after Kings of the Wild Frontier.
Great to see the pioneer Adam Ant getting some love in the 21st century mate! Best of luck with your channel from an English musician currently making armour in a French forest. 🇬🇧⚒🇺🇸

Thanks for the review! I traveled down from Iowa for the KC show with my two kids, 14 and 25. The 14yo was likely the youngest fan there and is the super-fan in the fam which I think Adam would love. So thank goodness that little bar attached to the theater had an ATM so I could get cash to buy her all the things, including the signed poster ❤ The double drums is the thing hard core fans depend on and love the most about this band, and seeing them live did not disappoint and was a heart-pounding treat! Adam’s stage presence was on point, and he moved around the stage like Mick Jagger. I got a little worried around “Wonderful” then when he introduced the band afterward and seemed super winded, but he pulled out all the stops for the last few songs then the two encore songs. The lead guitarist had some sick skills and the entire band worked together so cohesively like a well-oiled machine. Adam talked and interacted with the crowd more than we expected, which was a nice treat. All in all, my daughter is still pinching herself and keeps saying “I can’t believe I saw Adam Ant!!” And at 69 years old, he has all my respect and admiration - he’s still got that wow factor!!
I loved that guitarist too!! I could not remember PIN for my credit card (dont think I’ve ever used). I’m sick that I couldn’t buy that signed poster! That was exactly what I wanted!!! Loved the show SO much. Want to see him again. Thanks for watching !!!
My sister and I attended the Milwaukee show last night. AMAZING! I didn't catch in your video if you were differentiating between the English Beat line or the Adam Ant merch lines but when we went to purchase merchandise only the English Beat line was requesting cash. I went through the Adam Ant Merch line twice and my sister once and we used credit cards. I totally loved Jola. I had to borrow my sisters cell phone to take footage and she is probably hugely annoyed that so much of the footage is of Jola. Or trying to catch her and Adam Ant in the same frame. :) I have never met a friendlier group of concert goers in my life. It was fun visiting with the folks sitting around us. And somehow my brother in law and I got on the subject of dancing. And I said well from the get go starting with The English Beat we maybe sat down for 3 songs. To which his reply was so it was a "stand up" concert. I guess that must mean when everyone is having fun and dancing.
Saw him twice in the 80s & 2 nights ago in San Antonio. Have always loved the 2 drummers but Jola is beyond amazing. Also they took credit cards at the merch table. Cheers
I saw the show in Chicago last week, and I completely agree with you. English Beat was right on time and put on a fantastic show. Adam Ant's show was beautiful - loud, percussion-heavy and really, really, really good! The whole show was great fun. I considered driving to Akron over the weekend to see it again. 😁
Originally Adam And The Ants had just the one drummer Dave Barb it wasn’t until Kings of the Wild Frontier with a whole new band that they introduced two drummers. The original Adam And The Ants went on to work with Malcolm Mc McLaren to form Bow Bow Bow. The track at the end You’re So Physical originally had just one drummer. Incidentally Gary Glitter had two drummer with The Glitter Band
Saw the show in Milwaukee & Loved both. English Beat Merch was all cash, Adam was cash or credit. Huge Adam Ant fan since I was 9 years old back in 1980;)
Have listened to him for 30+ years but never saw live - or even clips of him live. Totally makes sense though - thought it was awesome! Thanks for watching.

Great review! I saw him at the Caverns in Pelham a couple of weeks ago. I agree, they sounded very heavy and that surprised me because I had only seen his old videos. I LOVED the performance. I wasn't really a big fan before and was just aware of him. But I left that show very much a fan.

Two drummers has always been an Adam Ant thing. Looking forward to catching this tour in a couple of weeks. A current band that pulls off the two drummer thing is the Holy (from Finland) who are awesome...check them out!
Seeing him at the Keswick Theater April 9th near Philly. Saw the English Beat at The New Hope Winery and they were fantastic! I’m so looking forward to seeing both bands together - it’s going to be amazing!
I've been to many Adam Ant shows. Even in the beginning of his career, he's always had two drummers and especially if you've seen old footage of him from the late '70s early '80s you would know that he always has two drummers! Thanks for the tip of bringing cash if you want to buy merch
Saw the tour in Atlanta on Monday (for the second time… saw them in 2011). I was frankly surprised at how GREAT this performance was! That band was tight! And since the songs were nearly choreographed, everyone had to be on their toes. Also, I believe Phil Collins when he says that it’s actually very hard for two drummers to play together. Those drummers were 🔥. An inspiring performance!
Ranking Roger had to have been missed. Love English Beat. I’ll have to check out recent Adam Ant live vids. I member when I was a kid. Seems like a strange double bill but moneys money and playing music is a blast.
I knew the music was drum heavy but didn’t think about two sets during the show. I didn’t get a chance to see him and we didn’t have videos or interviews at our fingertips back in the 80’s.
Just saw Adam Ant & The English Beat tonight at Fox Theater in Oakland. Awesome show. Not sure about the merch because the Fox itself is a cashless venue since Covid. T shirts for Adam were $40.

I saw Adam Ant about 9 or 10 years ago. I’d give the show a 10/10. I always worry if a “legacy artist” still has the chops, but this band was so good and Adam could still sing as well as he did in his prime. Strange how this show was “cash only”. Any show I’ve seen in the past few years has been credit card only.
Saw first stop in STL. Loved the entire set and was surprised to hear songs I didn’t recognize (cool zombie from 2013). Merch was designed for credit/debit with smart chip readers at that stop. Wonder if they experienced issues so changed to cash only going forward; I know some credit cards put a steep fee per transaction/ cuts into profits on merch sales big time.
I saw Friend or Foe tour 1982. Was heavier than I expected at the time. (three drums for Prince Charming, as he beat on a bass drum!) I'm hesitant to go again, even though I really liked Corsair's Gunner's. He seems to have lost a step or a dozen.
The elephant in the room question is how does the Adam Ant show hold up without touring with a horn section. Many of their songs were horns dominant, so it seems a substantial downgrade with just guitars.
I absolutely loved it. Have not read reviews but I thought the heavier rock sound worked well. Speaking of horns - the sax player for The Beat was excellent. Thank you so much for stopping by !!!
In England "The Beat" are just called The Beat, the distinction is made in this country coz there may be an American, The Beat. As for Adam Ant's two drummers, you have Gary Glitter to thank for that (love him or loathe him) as well as the alliterative name. Gary Glitter begat a lot of things...
I've been a big big fan of Adam Ant since the 1980s -- my first Adam Ant concert was at St. Johns University in Queens, NY back in 1983 -- the opening band was INXS. I was planning on going to see this show in Albuquerque, however the tickets for the cheap seats are $100. I'm sorry ---- but $100 is just too much money for a cheap seat at ANY concert. I'm not really sure what has happened over the past several years, but the prices of most concert tickets have skyrocketed so that they are just ridiculous. And with Marco no longer playing with the band, its just not worth it --- I can stream the music for free.
I saw the opening show for this tour in St Louis for my first time! It was fabulous!! Oh how I felt like a teenager again! I did miss the horns tho!
Two drummers since 1980, that’s 44 years!! Always been heavy live, it’s what Adam does!

I absolutely loved it. Have not read reviews but I thought the heavier rock sound worked well. Speaking of horns - the sax player for The Beat was excellent. Thank you so much for stopping by !!!
I saw him pre pandemic and you won't miss the horns at all
Set list thanks
In England "The Beat" are just called The Beat, the distinction is made in this country coz there may be an American, The Beat. As for Adam Ant's two drummers, you have Gary Glitter to thank for that (love him or loathe him) as well as the alliterative name. Gary Glitter begat a lot of things...
I believe that there's many bands that have two drummers..
There are. I’m not sure why I wasn’t expecting it for this set. But it was awesome!! Thanks for watching!!
Did he do Red Scab?
Yes! Next to last song (before encore). Thanks for stopping by!
@@BarrysMusicCellarLove that...I was quite surprised he could knock something like that out after hears the like of prince charming etc...top track
I only use cash so it erks me when I go to a show and they only take debit/credit.
Kings of The Wild Frontier LP. : 2 Drummers . Ant fans know.
Don't drink? Don't smoke?
What do you do?
must be something inside
Adam Ant Merch took Credit Cards, English Beat Merch was Cash only...
Which show? St Louis?
Love Adam ant but I am absolutely mad about the beat, my favourite 2 tone band.
