The realest interview ever... Ice ain't hatin'. Ice is keeping it 100 and most people outside of our culture can't relate. It used to be a rites of passage to pay homage, but nowadays we are taught that is a sign of weakness. Iceman is a legend that loves the game and his people.
@8:30 He said "He ain't a UFO". LMAO Good interview. In fairness to Jordan though, I've seen him credit Gervin for teaching him how to maintain a high scoring average. Jordan said that Ice taught him that if you just pace yourself and take it quarter by quarter and try to score 8 or so points in each one, you'll end up averaging 30+ points a game.
How does stating your opinion make you a Jordan hater? Fans go by TV and social media too often today without studying the actual history of the game. Don't get mad at a Gervin for not worshipping a Jordan, listen and learn!!!
@Ulysses432 Gervin's not mad at Jordan, he just started to play before Jordan and saw players of the past do their thing... it's like Julius Erving saying that he liked more Baylor, Jerry West, Oscar Robertson... the guys that influenced him and whom learn from. The point is that there's no GOAT. Kareem said it several times, and it's true, because you can't compare players, not between eras, not even between contemporaries, how do you compare Lebron with Curry? WTH they got in common? Besides, basketball is a team game... The discussion about the goat is crap and makes people forget great players. Imagine what will happen in the future, people saying that Lebron or Curry don't compare to whatever they are going to play in the NBA. And people will forget everybody before them. Just because people ignore and dismiss History and because of the GOAT rubbish discussion.
George girvan has to tell his own story because nobody seems to tell it, And he is 100% correct in what he is saying. I've followed his career. He is one of my favorite players before Michael Jordan. George Gervin had some of the craziest moves I've ever seen On the basketball court.
his opinion is fine as long as he doesn't get the facts wrong and act like they are right. he got some of the facts wrong and that's when it becomes an issue from opinion to something like slander or defamation.
@@derrickgervin1060 again, until he starts trying to sprinkle facts into it and he gets the facts wrong. if he just stuck to saying reasons why he thought something without facts added fine. but he was BSing "facts" into it.
I'm the biggest fan of Michael Jordan...I was a James Worthy fan when he was in North Carolina. But I knew it was something different about Michael after he broke his foot in 85-86...and Gervin just finally answered it!!! He was forced to sit on the bench and study the Ice Man....thats the answer! Jordan is Ice Man, Dr. J, and David Skywalker Thompson ...with the toughness of Detroit Isaiah Thomas, and some clutch shooting skill like Larry Bird!!! He's not hating....he just cracked the Da Vinci Code!!!!!!! Honest!!
Moreno12 - Are you bleeding between your legs or something? Damn, the man made a valid statement and you too stupid to comprehend it so you go off into some other shit. Let me give you some dummy advice: when you want to debate or rebut somebody, stay on subject. Don’t start talking weird shit about flat earth and all this other irrelevant bullshit. Gtfoh with that.
You can see MJ took elements from Ice's game, MJ and Ice have very similar up and under with the english off the glass. Ice made putting english on the ball an art form, MJ put his own twist on it and did it with his own style. Ice often ran with both arms down by his sides after he made a nice layup or dunk, MJ would often do a similar motion after he scored like he knew it was going in without looking back. Ice and Doc make BBall look like and art form, MJ tried to perfect the art of bball also, all 3 guys inspired generations of young players who would choose bball over other sports because of their artistry and unique contributions to the game.
Don't sound like hating to me...he keeping it 100... All he was saying bout mike was ya had to give respect to get it....again I didn't sense no hate in his words..
I understood what he was saying didn't sound like hate. But he's right that he doesn't get nearly the amount of respect that he deserves. I mean George Gervin is a top 5 scorer in nba history
One of the realest interviews i've ever heard. He's said what i've always said,in terms of THE GREATEST argument...What's the criteria??That's not hating. That question is a legitament.Ice was as prolific a ball player as anyone. He and Dr.J are my favorite players ever.Nothing but love for them.
only problem with what ice is saying is that Jordan was an actual innovator. not that doc and ice weren't, but they still played that old school style of play. Jordan was the one who brought the new school style of play to the nba all his shit was brand new including his style of dribbling
ashtonjackfanny y'all do realize back in the day "hotdogging" wasn't allowed and old school coach would bench that ass. Tons of old school park legends couldn't break into the league because they couldn't conform those boring NBA standards. So all these old school guys been there and seen it all.
Jay Gatling... Jordan didn't come into the league "hotdogging" as you call it. Under Dean Smith, he played well-rounded ball. So I guess Doc and Elgin and David Thompson and others were "hotdogging" it as well huh? If those park legends were so good, do it on the top level. Oh, but most of them weren't mentally prepared for the game. Would lead me to believe that Jordan's game was normal, to him. It's "hotdogging" to those who couldn't do it on the top level!
I love Ice but go listen to Jordan's Ahmad Rashad interview he states that he can't say he's the greatest bc he nvr faced those players so ICE is wrong here
We do know about u Mr gervin and cherish u that finger roll and all your offensive moves will never be forgotten . I like how the young man showed respect to mr gervin in this
MJ would chew him up and spit him out..Iceman was one of the greatest offensive players but Jordan was impossibly skilled & plays defense like a maniac so even if they were equal offensively(which they weren’t because Jordan was unstoppable 1v1), Jordan still has defense that stands 10 lvls higher than George. So the winner is clearly his Airness.
12:21 "People call him the greatest of all time. I ain't never heard him say he ain't" Jordan says that he's not the greatest on many occasions. Every time someone asked him the question, he responded by saying that he wasn't the greatest. So what is Gervin talking about? It sounds like he has some beef with MJ.
they didn't have a great relationship the year they were teammates. probably didn't sit well with george that he was basically told his career was over and watched from the bench as soon as jordan was healthy as well. i wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't and hasn't followed anything jordan related in 30 years...then again he is wearing MJ's shoes so...idk.
MJ was indeed pushed by the league. But if MJ wasn't getting 30+ a game (Shooting 50 percent) and thrilling the masses then he couldn't have been as popular as he is. After all, they couldn't sell him like they did if he averaged 18 ppg right? The work had to come before the highlights. That said, MJ often gives props to Oscar, David Thompson, Jerry West, Bill Russell and others before him when asked.
@@x-man9473 gervin is irked by the presumption that it was a holy honor to play with jordan instead of the other way around. he wants it to be a case of "MJ should be asked these questions not me." "'how was it to play with george gervin?', none of this 'how was it to play with Jordan?' BS" Also that he wants some credit for how jordan became jordan. that's how it came across to me. a little bitterness.
Gervin, as well as other past players, has disdain for Jordan, . He is speaking like he taught Jordan to play ball. Jordan shows nothing but respect for past players and a lot of them still speak in this manner when he is brought up. If Jordan spoke like this about them, the whole bball community would be up in arms, seriously!
I don't think it was because the Tv saturated our minds with Jordan. While he was talked about he made every talk about him worth it. He showed his love for the game at the highest form. And that was the only way he could maintain that love. So he equated the adoration with how he played. If he slowed down after 3 years in the league and turned out to be a fluke, then we wouldn't hear of him. And Gervin does not follow Jordan so how would he find out that MJ actually said GOAT title was a cringe to him. He always gives credit to the OGs. He hating for sure. I am not saying that because he doesn't like Jordan but I am saying that bec much as he was saying fans don't know history but he is as biased spewing without analyzing what he was saying.
Awesome listening to Ice!For those calling Ice a hater, get out of your feelings.Nobody's saying Jordan is or isn't the greatest player.Ice just said what many prior legends have said or thought.Greatest? Based on what?To me,there is no greatest.Only favorites. It's not fair to compare a shooting guard to a center or a forward to a point guard. If we're to be objective on the GREATEST argument,as Ice says, what's the criteria?ABA Dr.J & NBA MJ have damn near identical stats.Different players.Different positions.Kareem's. stats are just as impressive as MJs.Different players.Different positions....Great interview!
I agree with Gervin. Michael does not like to give credit where credit is due. No hate at all behind Gervin’s statement. He’s definitely one of the best pure scorers all of all time. Definitely top 5.
Thanks this one is the truth. Don't let people tell you who is great or the best so they can make money off you. Learn the history and open your eyes. These commentators get paid to talk not to tell the truth. Wake up and do research.
Gervin, and Jordan, actually played a season together. It has been said that Jordan talked very nasty to The iceman. I guess he’s bitter ehow Mike talked to him. What makes Jordan the greatest isn’t just about championships. His will, drive, competitiveness, and athleticism , as well as his mental toughness and being clutch, is what makes him the greatest I’ve ever seen. Many of you are saying Iceman isn’t hating on Jordan, but he immediately started pointing out what he thought were weaknesses in Jordan’s game. He didn’t mention any weaknesses in Doc’s game, or his own. Lol! You can also hear it in his voice when he speaks about, Mike. Jordan took pieces of David Thompson’s , and Doctor J’s game. If you’ve watched and listened to Jordan in the past, you would know this. Gervin, Ervin, and Jordan, are all three greats, but Jordan is above the rest from a basketball standpoint. Maybe not as a human being, but as a athlete and basketball player...he’s the best I’ve ever seen!
George Gervin is one of the best offence players ever and him comparing his self to MJ on offence they are close. But he is not even close to MJ on the defense side of the court.
@@Amick44 Mike averaged 38 in his career and averaged 30 for his career. Gervin only averaged 30 two times in his career. For George Gervin to say Jordan couldn’t score like him when he couldn’t average as much as Mike, is kind of idiotic.
I WILL TRY TO SIMPLIFY THIS FOR THE PEOPLE WHO DON'T QUITE GET THE GOAT TAG. MJ IS THE ONE WHO PUT IT ALL TOGETHER? NO WEAKNESSES TO HIS GAME. HE WAS GOOD TO GREAT IN EVERYTHING INVOLVING BASKETBALL. PEOPLE POINT OUT HE SHOT 33%FRM THREE...TRUE! A SHOT HE DIDN'T PRACTICE? BUT! THE LEAGUE AVG IN THE 90's WAS ONLY 34% ? SO HE WASN'T BAD, HE WAS AVG! EVEN BIRD SAY HE DIDN'T PRACTICE TAKING 3's..HE JUST TOOK THEM WHEN AVAILABLE? ONE THING FOR SURE MJ WAS A TIMELY 3 POINT SHOOTER? CHECK THE VIDEOS? JABBAR WAS CONSIDERED A GOOD RIM PROTECTOR WASN'T MUCH IN THE STEALS DEPARTMENT? SOME THOUGHT HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER AT BLOCKS? WILT? WAS A BEAST! COULD DO IT ALLLLLLL! EXCEPT HIT FT's? HE's MY NUMBER 2 IN THE GOAT CONVERSATION. WEST? NO POST GAME? BRON? DITTO NO POST GAME..AVG FT SHOOTER HIGH TURN OVER RATE AVG DEFENDER..I COULD GO ON BUT I HAVE A LIFE? MJ HAD NO WEAK POINTS! IN SHORT ITS Y HE IS BUY MAJORITY CONSIDERED THE GOAT? FORGET 6-0! ITS DEEPER THEN THAT! RUSS IS AND WILL ALLLLWAYS B THE GREATEST WINNER? AGAIN WINNER? WILT IS AND WILL ALLLLWAYS B GREATEST SCORER! KAREEM TOOK 17? 18? YEARS TO CATCH HIM? KAREEM WILL ALLLLWAYS HAVE THE GREATEST CAREER? ADDING H.S..COLLEGE AND PRO! WELL THATS MY STORY AND I'M STICKIN TOO IT! TO EACH HIS/HER OWN OPINION.
The reason Jordan is the greatest of all-time is because he would dominate in any era. You could even argue to say his defense was better than his offense. I give credit to the Iceman but he was no Jordan.
Joseph polite so basically since you’ve never seen Wilt Chamberlain and a few other guys all that means you didn’t get to “See” what they had to sell.. so truthfully you don’t know much yourself if you’re measuring everyone “to” Micheal..
George, I'm older than you and saw Wilt and all those guys from that time on ... Mike is the best. He played both ends of the floor. That counts a lot. You didn't play D like Mike. Wilt played in an era when he had only Russell who could contest him. Yeah, there were a few other centers but not as athletic as the players today. Magic and Bird are a close second.
Bro why you lieing🤣🤣🤣 wilt was sending every shot magic and big game james worthy was throwing up at 43. Those old head believe in mj era they would average more. Wilt played in an era with jerry west, oscar robertson, kareem, russell, nate thurmond, willis reed, walt bellamy, bob petit half of the nba top 50 came from his era🤣🤣 Wilt can give you 80 points a night, 30 rebounds and block every shot in the world is that on both ends. You know your great when the game changed because of you😬
First, you would have to get consensus on what "GREAT" is. Not everyone would agree. Jabbar was a fabulous big man. Oscar was a fabulous 6'5" guard. Isiah Thomas was a tremendous 6'1" point guard. How do you compare apples and oranges?
Once"ice man"played for the bulls and jordan threat him like shit is clear that he is hating on mj like most of the fan hate on guys like lebron, curry,kd ect. Making excuses with no recognition of their talent.
Its all about ESPN! If young bucks seen DOC J in 1970's they would say damn MJ copied that move from Dr. J. Ice Man knew everything about the O's and nothing about the X's. Jordan could not guard a prime Doc
Gervin played in a run and gun style w no defense played. Jordan played in a defensive era in the eastern conference. Gervin could score but his 30 is equal to about 22 in a balanced comparison.
Kareem has 6 rings, 1 with the Bucks, 5 with the Lakers... he went to the finals a total of 10x... Ice Man is telling the TRUTH & giving u real game/history & not js the hype that's been sold to us!!!
Kareem had 6 titles and 2 finals MVPs. He wasn't the leader of the Showtime Lakers-Magic was. Jordan has 6 titles and 6 finals MVPs, and he was the leader of the Bulls dynasty.
Again, Kareem has more points than anybody, including Mike. he was a 3 time finals MVP (Bucks vs Baltimore), rebounding champ, 4 X blocks leader, 19 All-Star. He led 2 different franchises to the finals and won. As dor 70's ball being weak, tell that to Wilt fans and and Knicks fans. And did I mention that he scored more points than ANYBODY? By the way, which dominat teand did the Bulls face during the 90's?🤔 The Lakers, Celtics and Sixers were all gone by '92. Kareem was gone by '89. Detroit was gone by '90. These teams all faced each other during the '80's in the finals and all WON against each other. All were dominant for a time. Can't say that about any teams of the '90's that faced the Bulls, including the '91 Lakers who by that time were "without " Kareem. 🤔🤔🤔🤔
@@RussellGLewis Correct. You can't say that about any of the 90s teams because Jordan rose to the occassion and whooped everyone's ass. Kareem on the other hand got hos ass handed to him by a Houston Rockets team with a losong record led by Moses Malone. Then he got his ass handed to him by an underdog Rockets team led by Hakeem Olajuwon. Jordan made sure his competition was destroyed. That's called greatnesss and team domination. Kareem's NBA career wouldn't know anything about that. Lol
@@RussellGLewis kareem played 6 years more. he better damn well have more pts than jordan. the bulls faced the 64 win sonics and jazz. the 2nd and 3rd best teams to lose a finals at the time it happened. also the 12th and 13th best teams of all-time by record at the time. They also had the better records than every team kareem beat in the finals. Sit down clown.
People misunderstand, let me break it down. In terms of numbers on the court mj is not even close to being the greatest player to ever play the game, how ever in terms of financial numbers of what mj brought to the nba league, and internationally, mj is the greatest of all time. Mj just brought the game to an another level as far as business is concerned. Mj and the chicago bulls filled up more stadiums than any other teams, any time fans heard mj and the bulls were coming in town people came out and watch mj. David stern created that title for mj because he needed someone to be the face of the nba at that time so he paid bob Costas to push that title on mj. Bottom line is in terms of numbers on the basketball court mj is not even close to being the greatest, but in terms of business of what a single player brought to the nba globally mj is untouched, mj is the greatest entertainer of all time. The media did it to mj Y'all.
Christopher Paul.... Compare his regular season AND playoff numbers to any other player, one on one, and see whose is better. That is where most people go wrong. His play on the court determined his business ventures and international adulation, it's not the other way around. You can't market a player who doesn't live up to the hype. Every time they upped the hype, Jordan exceeded it with his play. Learn how that works.
Gervin is protecting his era.... No matter how you look at it, you cant sell a person if he is not legit....... Michael jordan is by far the greatest i have ever seen.... its not even a question. His athletic ability combined with gracefulness and championships, should never be doubted..... you cant sell something that moves like shit in court no matter how many points he makes in a game and how good he is..... it has to be a combination of everything.... to be considered goat... Gervin shot as he claimed were beautiful....lol..... video clips dont liie..hahhahaha.. how bad it was... its like a stick doing a lay up..lol hahhah
Truth is everlasting, like the ice Man said, TV commentators made Larry Bird and Jordan but the general public knows very little about Big O, Wilt, Russell or even THE HAWK CONNIE HAWKINS, ALL REAL FANS KNOW EXACTLY WHAT ICE MAN IS SAYING
Salty. That's all this is. First of all, he's just dead wrong when he says I've never heard him mention Russell or Wilt or anyone else. That's all I've ever heard Jordan say when asked about being the greatest ever. I mean he's saying it back in 1993 after winning his third at the post-game 6 press conference, he's saying it at the ceremony the night before he was inducted, he's saying it in his interview with Ahmad Rashad a few years back, so it's just factually inaccurate. And when there are so many examples of Michael giving due respect, one must wonder what motivates someone to not acknowledge what can be easily established. That Michael was just a kid and needed to learn is irrelevant. Who doesn't come in the league and need to learn? Some'll say Magic? Magic's Rookie Year: 18, 7, and 7. Michael's Rookie Year: 28, 6, and 6. Magic won a championship. Michael didn't. Compare their respective team's rosters, their respective team's history. Not the same situation. Thew situations were apples and oranges. But back to Gervin. "He needs to talk about my game they I way I talk about his" or something approximately like that. What bunch a garbage that is. That doesn't even make sense if you were to try to unpack that. And nobody scored like him? Ummm, Michael scored more and at as an efficient rate. Michael went to his right 90 percent of the time? Give me a break. Watch the videos. And even if he had, motherfuckinMJ was third in the league in scoring in his rookie year, "going right 90 percent of the time", dropping 63 on the Celtics "going right 90% of the time", avg.d 37.1 ppg, "going right 90% of the time." Who gives a fuck? If the shit ain't broke. You develop as a player. If you give a shit about your game, amateur pro or otherwise, you are going to evolve. It's inevitable, so to say that he had room to improve is like saying a 9 year old will become a 10 year old, a 10 year old, an 11 year old, so on and so forth. Knocking a motherfucker because he wasn't perfect coming into the league is about as petty as it fucking gets. Every craftsman improves over time. It's natural. Fuck George Gervin and his crusty ass self.
All gervin said is that he didn't hear Jordan say that. Also, you can tell you dont know much about basketball BC you just looking at basic stats to make a point and discrediting this legend. Only hater here is you. Dude gave Jordan all the credit. But he is right. Jordan isn't the greatest. Wilt is.
Gervin heard it, he heard everything else everybody else says. Jordan has nothing but respect for these guys and the first thing they do when they meet him or hear about him is talk about they think someone else is better or how they are better than him. From Wilt to Kareem to Doc to Oscar. They should be mad at the commentators and fans because these are the people who bring it up. These guys kill me. And no, Wilt was weak from the free-throw line so therefore he was a liability. He also didn't get it done during the playoffs. Mike had no weaknesses. And no, 3-point shots are a choice, not a needed staple shot. Gervin himself labelled the shot a stupid one.
Damn u spend so much time on this. Gervin wasn't hating bro. You can tell he respects Jordan and he helped Jordan become a better player. You aren't respecting George Gervin enough. When you talk about a top 5 scorer of all time you should put some respect on his name
Folks, I don't think a sober Gervin would be hating. However, I've seen my Dad and as the alcohol would start hitting and the more he talked, the louder and funnier he would get. This is what I see here. This is just before the slurring begins. I respect the man, but I hear alcohol talking. The buzzed Gervin might be on the verge of slightly hating...just a bit.
I love George...I have his autograph and grew up watching him...but I dont think MJ ever declared himself the goat...Spurs are my fav team...Mj has always deferred to the legends...I also experienced Magic, Bird, Zeke, etc...MJ is the GOAT to me
Black Superman There is not hate. Gervin actually said to the interviewer that the reason he thinks Jordan is goat is because he was sold this notion? That is hating. It's a matter of opinion so why can't he respect anyone who feels Jordan is Goat? It's not like Mike hasn't earned the privilege to be in that conversation.
The more someone has talk about their own accomplishments and how great they are is a Telltale sign of how they're actually perceived... there's only a couple exceptions Mayweather's one Muhammad Ali's the other one other than that I can't think of anybody maybe LeBron but he's not better than Jordan in terms of greatness
Mike is the g.o.a.t. some legends just don't want to give him the title the iceman was cold but not even top 5 all Time mike ,Wilt ,magic ,hakeem, bron and kobe tie for try in that order honarable mention bird only cause of back injuries
Fluidity personified. Doc was a mentor in his life. MJ was a pupil with his own drive . The conflict with MJ is more generational - the changing of the guard if you will. Similar happened between Doc and bird. Bird was the young energy will to Docs waning energy will. MJ was the young energy will to Ices waning energy will. Two ships passing in the night one leaving port beginning the journey the other returning to port ending the journey.
George Gervin was great, he wasn’t better than Michael Jordan. He never even averaged 35 points in his career, while Jordan averaged 38. MJ was clearly a better scorer than him.
Gerving is hating. I respect his point of view, but every time Jordan has been asked about is he himself is the Greatest of All Time, all the time, the answer is the same: "I wish i could say that, but I never played againts Wilt, Jerry West, Russell and many others". So maybe he thinks about it, but he has never said it.
Swishman Michael Jordan is the greatest of all time in terms of what what does greatest of all time mean you can't go by rings are you talking rings are you talking franchise player with rings are you talking players since 1984 what do you mean greatest of all time Russell has 11 and don't give me that he didn't play against anybody or there were only 20 teams in the league John Havlicek has 10 he's one of the greatest basketball players of all time Michael Jordan if you're talking scoring it's Wilt Chamberlain if you're talking Rings it's Bill Russell if you're talking on and off the court It's Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan old school players will never say that Michael Jordan is the greatest
Lavar's Balls STAY IN YO LANE...... on a serious note if u take into account stats advanced metrics (playoffs and finals included) accolades and intangibles do u still think kareem is the G.O.A.T.?!
+Shuey Stimler That's the problem. The only reason MJ won those rings was when the competition got easier. 80s Lakers, Celtics, Pistons were on all the exit doors when MJ won them. The 90s were a watered down league and it carries even today. Going in the 90s, 1988-1989 Charlotte/Heat to be exact were added in the league. And MJ happens to be in the right time when Magic/Bird turned the league globally. He was the only superstar left. All attention turned to him making him the poster boy of the NBA. Now to answer your question. _if u take into account stats advanced metrics (playoffs and finals included) accolades and intangibles do u still think kareem is the G.O.A.T.?!_ LOL that's exactly why Kareem is the GOAT. bleacherreport.com/articles/187016-michael-jordan-is-not-the-greatest-player-in-nba-history. You take out stats and analytics, MJ can be considered GOAT. But era and numbers dont lie. Kareem is the real GOAT. The only disadvantage Kareem had was he was in an era when NBA wasnt global yet.
I understand we're Iceman comming from. He's saying what about the players before Mike or before LeBron. When most people think of the 80s you think of 3 players not the other 20+ players that was out right on another level. It's unfair and blasphemy to compare eras but I'mma be a hippercrit. The 70s 80s 90s had the greatest player to ever play.cant say the same for this era accept a handfull of players of this weak ass era..
yep MJ was on another level of palming and traveling 80% of the time. MJ would average only 20 points per game if all his points from traveling and palming was taken away.Ice did travel to but nothing compared to Jordan, Ice is a pure scorer compared to MJ
gervins famous shot was routine. There's barely any game footage on gervin .....not so for Jordan ,havng tons of game footage. Jordans famous shot was against the lakers switching hands for a layup with no one near him....that was weak!
Bruce Lee like i said mj was media hype, the NBA used him for marketing purposes. They needed a superstar larger than life that could will his team to victory when the odds are stacked against him (you ever seen space jam that movie explains how the nba marketed mj, in the movie he saved the world but in reality they used him to save the nba for more rating and money lol) its a business bruce, you know this, after bird and magic got old the rating were dropping and they needed another lab rat, yours truly mr micheal jeffrey jordan
it was gervin's 11th year playing in the nba and he averaged 33.1 in 1982. I love the ice man but we all know even in iceman's prime if they covered each other Mj would cook his ass
Jason A... It shouldn't matter. If he's so good he should've cooked MJ. I like how people like you make excuses but let it be MJ, that is a whole different story. SMFH
Have you ever seen Mike talk shit about Kobe or any other player in this manner??? And yes, Kobe was better than a 39, 40 year old player. How old was Gervin again??? Wasn't Gervin talking shit about Mike?
Remember, the reason Lay Thompson and Melody s CD oared tied or scored more in a quarter than Iceman is the 3 point line. Ice scored 33 in a quarter with no 3 point line. So in reality, Gervin record should still stand. As for Jordan, he is not greatest. Kareem and Magic are.
Oh come on! Lover ice man but please. This dude Michael never lost a championship and was dominating them....making last second shots etc. He doesn't need to give shout outs. That's real talk. Now I do agree with iceman as far as how Michael was marketed. But I have seen iceman, doctor J, and Michael Jordan play and he is better than them. Kareem could make the argument of being the GOAT...no doubt about it.
As I see it most NBA fans tend to elevate players they saw play and admired to say who's the greatest but to me I look at history along with context Jordan benefited from cable tv and on the shoulders of Doctor J and magic and bird. Jordan was great but greatest of all time is always debatable because it's a team game does Jordan have more points, rings or awards than Kareem. No, is his all around game better than lebron or Kobe I say about even but he did had that attitude and nastiness to win but he wasn't the only one. Rember they changed the rules for Michael because fans wanted to see him play in finals. He couldn't beat the Pistons until they change rules and Phil became coach and Scottie cane of age
Where did you ear that nonsense? NBA didn't change the rules for the Chicago Bulls to beat the Detroit Pistons. Detroit cycle finished by the time Scottie Pippen and Horace Grant matured under Phil Jackson's leadership. Before that the Pistons knew that by punching those two kids they would let Jordan alone against the Jordan Rules that were the same rules that the Celtics used against the Chicago Bulls but whith more physical tatics against the young bulls (thst by that time were cows not bulls).
This dude claim to know basketball who made this video - I doubt this-respect is a big thing MJ THING LIKE TRUMP- KAREEM GOT 6 CHAMPIONSHIP BEEN THERE 10 TIMES WON WITH TWO DIFFERENT TEAMS!!!
Man oh man...Gervin sounds so bitter....a more humble approach would have helped his case. This is just awful to listen to. Many a time I have heard Jordan talk down the greatest label being ascribed to him. Jordan would often give praises to other players of other eras and wished he could have played against them. Goerge needs to exercise some humility and go get some well needed sleep so he can talk right at his age
Dell H why does it have to be a humble approach why can't it be what he feels why do I have to read a written statement why can't I say words to come out of my mouth
well, he is saying how he feels....evidently he feels very bitter towards Joran being called the GOAT. Jordan didn't give himself that title...the media and NBA experts did that based on what he accomplished on the court
U can't blame him it's just his opinion. And he's a legend and he knows it. And he doesn't get any respect for his accomplishments. Just think about how that might make u feel
We older guys hate on Jordan because the young guys don't give the old- timers their due respect. And you young guys don't even know who most of the older legends are. How can you say who is the all time greatest when you only know the newer players. That's not being objective or fair. How can you talk about all time when you don't have Mikan or Russell or Wilt or the Big "O" or Lew Alcindor in the conversation? How can you even talk about the all time greats when you don't know your history. Like this dude doing the interview didn't even know that Lew/Kareem has 6 rings. And he's bragging about he knows his basketball history. If you don't know the full range of a subject you shouldn't comment on it.
Jordan gets an edge because of his defense that's what separates him from the rest but offense he is not above Ice in his prime. Gervin had a million moves finger rolls, mid range jumpers, up & unders, reverse lay ups, jump hooks, 3 pointers, free throws, bank shots, corner shots, fade aways, dunks, pump fakes, could shoot with left hand or right hand, could shoot & drive to the basket anywhere on the floor not just only right or only left. Im from Detroit and grew up there from the 70s thru 80s watching iceman at his best.
The realest interview ever... Ice ain't hatin'. Ice is keeping it 100 and most people outside of our culture can't relate. It used to be a rites of passage to pay homage, but nowadays we are taught that is a sign of weakness. Iceman is a legend that loves the game and his people.
Great interview! Gervin was my favorite player to watch. He was so smooth.
@8:30
He said "He ain't a UFO". LMAO
Good interview.
Great interview. It's great hearing the back stories from a legend that normally don't come up
How does stating your opinion make you a Jordan hater?
@@scottb3034 his opinion is his opinion and what others think about it doesn't really matter.

Honest!!
Yea, ok lol
Please stfu and go post some more earth is flat shit cus it sounds like you're one of those

Let me give you some dummy advice: when you want to debate or rebut somebody, stay on subject. Don’t start talking weird shit about flat earth and all this other irrelevant bullshit. Gtfoh with that.
Respect to the Detroit OG, needed to hear this perspective, thanks for sharing BAC
Michael Jordan have always gave respect to the guys before him
You can see MJ took elements from Ice's game, MJ and Ice have very similar up and under with the english off the glass.
Andrew Scott if a ex NBA player doesn't say Michael Jordan is the goat people think he's hating
People have their own terminalogy how they look at things.
I understood what he was saying didn't sound like hate. But he's right that he doesn't get nearly the amount of respect that he deserves. I mean George Gervin is a top 5 scorer in nba history
Before Michael Jordan George Garvin was the Scoring machine. If I'm correct he won scoring title 4 years straight. Yes? No?
I love Ice but go listen to Jordan's Ahmad Rashad interview he states that he can't say he's the greatest bc he nvr faced those players so ICE is wrong here
This some real shit right here..
People that are saying the Ice Man are hating truthfully didn’t watch nor hear anything this man said in the video.
Not a lot of people know that Michael Jordan actually interviewed him back in the day look it up
i seen it recently...good vid
We do know about u Mr gervin and cherish u that finger roll and all your offensive moves will never be forgotten . I like how the young man showed respect to mr gervin in this
I agree with "GG" one of my all time favorite NBA players. "The Iceman " was one of the all time greatest scorers. 💯
Great Interview. Iceman man's game was just that...hard as ICE! I sometimes wonder If any these ex players still go hoop sometime ? Love Iceman.
George Gervin in his prime would give MJ that business just like he did Dr. J. Iceman was unstoppable just like Mike. Dream match.
2 things: Doc didn't have good defense and his jumper was shaky. Iceman didn't play good defense at all so your "hypothesis" doesn't hold!
He wouldn’t be wearing the throwback Jordans kicks in the interview if he didnt like him...

MJ has never said he’s the greatest. He always give love to the ones before him.
Exactly. Gervin sounds very delusional here.

@@x-man9473 gervin is irked by the presumption that it was a holy honor to play with jordan instead of the other way around. he wants it to be a case of "MJ should be asked these questions not me." "'how was it to play with george gervin?', none of this 'how was it to play with Jordan?' BS"
Also that he wants some credit for how jordan became jordan.
that's how it came across to me. a little bitterness.
Hell of an interview 👏👏👏👏
GEORGE GERVIN ISNT HATING AT ALL, HE ACTUALLY SPEAKING FACTS. I HATE THIS ERA IN THINKING IF YOU SPEAK FACTS, YOU ARE CONSIDER A HATER.
Ram Martin how many finals mvp does he have that is the difference between mj and Kareem
Jordan is the G.O.A.T. He was a small player in a time of big centers and dominated anyway.
chris r the centers of the 90s weren't that great honestly. And the 2 guards of that time weren't the best either.
Marquis Caston yeah kinda true. Only David Robinson and Shaq were the really good ones.
This great interview with Iceman. Ice thanks for great memories
Ice,is a real black man!
Peace ice!
Salty. #FACTS
George Gervin is one of the best offence players ever and him comparing his self to MJ on offence they are close. But he is not even close to MJ on the defense side of the court.
Exactly, Duane. Ice could score with anyone who ever played and with a variety few have ever possessed. But you are right, his D was never very good.
@@Amick44 Mike averaged 38 in his career and averaged 30 for his career. Gervin only averaged 30 two times in his career. For George Gervin to say Jordan couldn’t score like him when he couldn’t average as much as Mike, is kind of idiotic.
@@thebullsguyspodcast6155 true. Perhaps he meant style. Ice could use his left hand a little better and didn't rely that much on athleticism as some.
I love Gervin, but his defense was near non existent.
The reason Jordan is the greatest of all-time is because he would dominate in any era. You could even argue to say his defense was better than his offense. I give credit to the Iceman but he was no Jordan.
If MJ turned out to be AVG, would people WANT TO B LIKE MIKE? NOPE! What people SAAWWWWW made it sell!

Thank you! Here is a man with some brains in his head!
Bro why you lieing🤣🤣🤣 wilt was sending every shot magic and big game james worthy was throwing up at 43. Those old head believe in mj era they would average more.
Wilt played in an era with jerry west, oscar robertson, kareem, russell, nate thurmond, willis reed, walt bellamy, bob petit half of the nba top 50 came from his era🤣🤣

hey man, you know man, Doc man, yeah man, Ice Man, man, man he was good man, finger roll man, crazy man, man, wow man

Kareem has (6) championships, NOT 5! And he did this on (2) teams. And he has MORE points than Mike.
Kareem overrated. Prime Kareem missed the Playoffs ( 40-42, record ) and won the MVP in the same year.
70s Weak era: ABA and Nba

Soooo their games had nothing to do with it at all huh??? This diatribe is inane.
ice is keeping it 100.The truth is the truth.
It wasn't the Iceman of old. It was the old Iceman!

Erfbgu 2 All I'm saying there are other great player's.
Black Superman This is obvious
The more someone has talk about their own accomplishments and how great they are is a Telltale sign of how they're actually perceived... there's only a couple exceptions Mayweather's one Muhammad Ali's the other one other than that I can't think of anybody maybe LeBron but he's not better than Jordan in terms of greatness
Michael Jordan has said he doesnt think he's the greatest
D Lowe do you really think he would say he is
He said it. There are clips of him talking about it on RUclips but people want to act like he's the one stating it.
And then theres kobe, who said he is the goat🤣🤣
Kareem has 6 championships
Thanks, to Magic, he does. Kareem had ONE, til' Magic arrived.
The G.O.A.T Mr Bill Russell has 11 championships !!!
Mike is the g.o.a.t. some legends just don't want to give him the title the iceman was cold but not even top 5 all Time mike ,Wilt ,magic ,hakeem, bron and kobe tie for try in that order honarable mention bird only cause of back injuries
Derrick Gibson he's prob top 15 or 20 all time. He's a top 5 scorer of all time tho
Nobody gives Gervin ANY credit. Literally nothing
Jordan the goat
Fluidity personified. Doc was a mentor in his life. MJ was a pupil with his own drive . The conflict with MJ is more generational - the changing of the guard if you will. Similar happened between Doc and bird. Bird was the young energy will to Docs waning energy will. MJ was the young energy will to Ices waning energy will. Two ships passing in the night one leaving port beginning the journey the other returning to port ending the journey.
Kareem is the GOAT... the ICE MAN keeping it real.
Rio G Kareem was very fortunate he never had to play for a rebuilding lottery team like Jordan did.
1990758 a bunch of players who played before jordan have said jordan is the G.O.A.T. especially jerry west who is his biggest fan
MJ is a product of the media. There are few former NBA players unfazed by it. Kareem is the real GOAT. MJ definitely in the top 5
Lavar's Balls STAY IN YO LANE...... on a serious note if u take into account stats advanced metrics (playoffs and finals included) accolades and intangibles do u still think kareem is the G.O.A.T.?!
+Shuey Stimler
That's the problem.
_if u take into account stats advanced metrics (playoffs and finals included) accolades and intangibles do u still think kareem is the G.O.A.T.?!_
LOL that's exactly why Kareem is the GOAT.
bleacherreport.com/articles/187016-michael-jordan-is-not-the-greatest-player-in-nba-history.
Ice you’re a legend... but you’re hating. Everyone knows you were vicious but MJ was simply on another level
yep MJ was on another level of palming and traveling 80% of the time.
Eric Beard mj was pure media hype
Great player but the media shoved him down your throat every chance they got
Bruce Lee like i said mj was media hype, the NBA used him for marketing purposes. They needed a superstar larger than life that could will his team to victory when the odds are stacked against him (you ever seen space jam that movie explains how the nba marketed mj, in the movie he saved the world but in reality they used him to save the nba for more rating and money lol) its a business bruce, you know this, after bird and magic got old the rating were dropping and they needed another lab rat, yours truly mr micheal jeffrey jordan
Come on OG... Mike cooked you for 45 as a rookie
he was in his 15th season and retired a yr later...please
it was gervin's 11th year playing in the nba and he averaged 33.1 in 1982. I love the ice man but we all know even in iceman's prime if they covered each other Mj would cook his ass
Jason A... It shouldn't matter. If he's so good he should've cooked MJ. I like how people like you make excuses but let it be MJ, that is a whole different story. SMFH
kcire10 10 so when kobe was burning the shit outta mj when mj was on the wizards, no excuse right kobe is better
Yea he bought him some Jordan
Who cares man? Man, man, man, Ice MAN, man, you know man, yeah man
As I see it most NBA fans tend to elevate players they saw play and admired to say who's the greatest but to me I look at history along with context Jordan benefited from cable tv and on the shoulders of Doctor J and magic and bird.
Stop repeating what George said and use your own mind.
This dude claim to know basketball who made this video - I doubt this-respect is a big thing MJ THING LIKE TRUMP- KAREEM GOT 6 CHAMPIONSHIP BEEN THERE 10 TIMES WON WITH TWO DIFFERENT TEAMS!!!
GTO EXPRESS
6× NBA champion (1971, 1980, 1982, 1985, 1987, 1988)
G.O.A.T=11 championships Mr Bill Russell.
jayzeedogg GOAT is the most recognize basketball player of all time. Wilt Chamberlain took it mainstream and Michael Jordan took it global.
Dell H, Gervin HOF 1996
The old guys from the 60s 70s love to hate on Michael Jordan and others it make me laugh because I know it's hate and jealousy

And that is just plain stupid. So you hate the player because of the fans? I guess it's true what they say about old fools.

Glenn Mcgollie none are billionaires like Jordan
ball boys all going over seas if pops don't shut up
Jordan is great but not the greatest
Joseph Brown you hittin' that Crack Pipe.
Brian Johnson who has a better skill set than Jordan and Jordan 6-0 in the finals
