- The tale of Ernest Shakleton and the crew of the Endurance, which sank 107 years ago near Antarctica, is one of the most famous stories of survival ever. Now, the Endurance has been found, and it’s intact! The astonishing discovery two miles below the surface of the frigid Antarctic waters elated history buffs. The wreckage was discovered by a robot submarine, which took footage showing the ship’s name emblazoned in gold lettering, still holding remarkable clarity.
The ship really lived by its name. I'm astonished how well it was preserved.
Ice cold waters
@@Erabbz I think you read Fernan's comment wrong. They said they were astonished for how well the ship was preserved, not how it was preserved.
Edit: I apologize if I was being rude in some way. I was just trying to tell Rolando that he might've read the sentence a bit wrong.
@@AgIsANoob can’t believe people like you exist
@@444_vodka umm but its the truth? I think he's trying to be helpful with word/sentence comprehension. Get offended by something else pls

The footage is incredible. It looks like it just sank.
Yep, thanks to the cold water & ice
It did just sink. Nothing else happened. It got stuck in the ice in 1915 and then sunk. That was all
@@Greenpoloboy3 he meant it looks like it just sank recently..
I know. This legit made my day.
Guarantee it would be trashed in a few years if it was somehow able to be surfaced for the public...
I read the book Endurance back in college and was fascinated by the story. Incredible to see the actual ship, and in such incredible condition to boot.
ß
I thought it was crushed by ice
@@uncleartax correct, the masts fell and the hull was crushed enough to create a hole, ship sank intact.
@@beachhobbies ahh thank you
I also read a book about it
Founding wrecks of sunken ships always make me happy as a naval enthusiast. Endurance....what a fitting name. Epic ship with epic tale.
They make my childhood exuberance come out ahaha I always think of treasure
And epic find
She has lasted for a long time. Apparently it has a lot of endurance.

Ernest Shackleton was a wonder of a man able to lead a crew & keep everybody alive in such dire circumstances! Amazing that the ship has been located!
Yes my boy Shack was something but you too Brooke seem to have some dam interesting qualities
Imagine being part of the hand full of people who remember hearing about this ship going down in 1915 and now being able to here about it being found.
i think thats like 3 people
@@AC-kl2gf I likely doubt that dude
Most of the ppl on that ship were around In they’re 20’s at least so I don’t know where you got that idea from
It does. They might have been in their teenage years hearing and readind about the search of a ship that sank a few years ago. Well they lived to see it found.
@@GhastlyCretin That's what the original comments stated: "Hearing" which might be from the news or possibly from a relative shortly afterwards. This ship sank seven years before Betty white birth. Had she lived to its found. She would have remembered hearing about it!
I worked at a retirement home last year with a lady born in 1914, I hope she sees this :) surprisingly only health issues were her hands and feet numbing, blindness and slight mobility but no demenbtia or chronic issues.. amazing.
(Sorry for edit. She was 106 at the time)
That ship must have had a lot of endurance to stay in shape for that long

Finally Another Piece Of History Found!!!!!
yup, its awesome! :)
Absolutely incredible how well preserved it is. This is amazing
I admit, I know very little of this expedition personally, however that ship is remarkably preserved for its age.
This story is one of the greatest of all, both the book and movie.
because it's close to the alien home base on Antarctica and they don't like organisms polluting their neighborhood
It's in incredibly good shape for something that's been under the water for so long.
I’m actually in the middle of reading the book about this boat and the crews incredible voyage.
when
Spoiler alert it sank
Yo dude we have the same name
They should make a movie about it
That's one *cool* ship! The crew was pretty *chill* about the whole situation too.
Did a project on this story when I was in middle school many years back wondering if the ship would ever be found, and finally, the day has come.
This is so cool to see, I taught about this story at school. The life boat the used is in a museum in England. It took him 4 tries to rescue his crew.
Not only the ship but the whole crew 28 men survived and Endured 17 months of survival and near death situations until they were all rescued.
And that is the most amazing part of the adventure. Endurance, grit and good leadership at it's finest.
Yup, they spent months on an a couple of ice floes before landing on remote Elephant Island...and the story gets more harrowing from there!
Is crazy how me and my friends just finished reading the book and over the weekend it was found. Looks amazing!
The world around you is alive my friend
@@tiko4621 Yep
Congratulations to the people whom found her.. That's one beautiful ship.
So cool. It's in such good shape
Wow! They found it! It looks amazing and is aptly named. Rest in peace to the lost.
And may they have found their worried loved ones again, in heaven. 🙏💔😢
Please keep sending updates on this Historical Find! Well Done👍
Holy thats amazing!! It looks so eerie, yet beautiful.
This to prove that failing isn't always losing.
It didn't endure the first time when it sank, ain't nothing "endurance" about it, but managed to live for it name the second time. A good ending!
Seems crazy how well this ship is preserved when the Titanic is disappearing.
Because the cold n ICe
Titanic is disappearing because of the bacteria and rust that is eating away at the metal endurance is made of wood
@@mariaperez-cuatzilo7864 yeah I know just speaking bigger picture wise

Now we just need to find the missing Malaysia Airlines flight 317, the lost Roanoke colony, and the city of Atlantis
Well they're pretty sure they've located the 317, just going to take time to get to it.
wasnt that the flight 370 and not 317?

INCREDIBLE. This is so freeking cool!!!
107 years and still intact.
Super exciting! Can’t wait to find out more!
What an awesome find!! I agree, it's a shame they cannot bring this ship to the surface. It truly does belong in a museum.
Wow! I remember reading about that sunken ship back in 1915, never thought I would live to see it...
You’re telling me you’re like 115 years old?
@@kylemccarthy02 122 to be exact
It sunk in 1930 😂😭

Awesome! This is one of those ships in "The Terror" from AMC. Very creepy, entertaining watch. Great actors too, if you haven't watched, you should!
No the Terror was one of two ships (Erebus is the other) in the I’ll fated Franklin Polar Expedition in the 1840s looking for a water passage through the arctic circle . The Endurance sank in 1915. Interesting side note: The Franklin Polar Voyage set the stage for numerous excursions to the north looking for a passage and also what may remain of Franklins crew. One of the last ships to go was the HMS Resolute , the ship that had timber’s used to build the desk in the Oval Office and Buckingham Palace , a gift from the Queen to the United States.
@@jackburton5483 ah, ok, my memory failed me here, thank you for the info! Very interesting!
@@SymphonySays no problem, glad I could help 😊
Dam this is cool and I cant wait for the ship to be revived and be named the Flying Dutchman
Good to see, Shackleton was a legend in his time as well as now. They were a hearty breed back then
Spectacular find. Congratulations to the discovery team.
Wow ! That was a vintage classic.
Two sunken ships years apart , that must of been the biggest news around at that time
this Should be in a museum that would be cool if it was then people can come there and discover it.
Thanks to the SA Agulhas and the team that found it.😁😁😁
long live ernest shackleton! long live the endurance!
The ship looks well intact for it being over 107-year-old ship wreck!
Antartica doesn’t have wood-eating animals
That’s amazing! Hope there’s a National Geographic movie about it!
I just read about this on my news app. this morning ,this sort if thing really fascinates me ,I hope they keep it intact while they begin to explore it .
If history tell us something, is that time move on but the memories still live on!
Absolutely amazing.
Great. Now Hollywood can make a sappy love story about this one.
That''s highly unlikely, isn't it, @Trever Travis? The reason that I say this is because it was an all male crew on board the Endurance and homosexuality was very illegal at that time, wasn't it?
This is so beautiful 😢❤
I love seeing old things
Wow, now that's a cool find!!!
This ship deserves to live by its name
I really enjoy your content, keep up the good work!
Wow that’s pretty incredible! They should totally raise it and put it in a museum or something for us to really appreciate what was once a sailing ship! They might even be able to repair it if it doesn’t crumble apart
Sadly they cant, nearly 10,000 ft below the sea.
To put into perspective the titantic is 12,000 ft. :(
what an incredible discovery i bet the guys that discovered it were blown away
Could you imagine, a famous Ship sinks and goes missing 7 years before you were born, you live to be almost 100, and then it gets found 2 months after you die.........that sucks. This just got me thinking about Betty White. That sucks to have lived soooo long, and then they finally discover something right after your death that went missing right before your birth.
Who tf thinks of cap like this?
LOL
Some introvert
Major cringe comment
Dont be mean guys 🤣🤣🤣
What an amazing discovery
Bruh I started reading this book last semester. Gonna finish it because of this.
Priceless 👏🏻👏🏻
Damn ship maxed her skill points for endurance.
Over a century, astounding.
Wow so pristine!!
The fact that this was on my page and we learned about this in school today
Amazing find
All I needed was the my heart will go on in the background
I bet Endurance will be Box Office Hit.... I hope James Cameron makes Endurance the movie. Imagine, Steven Spielberg & Martin Scorsese saw this sunken ship. They might say Yeah, I want to make this film before James Cameron. This is oscar gold.
The third officer Alfred cheetham aboard the ship is my great relative :)
Endurance really didnt endure but at the same time did
Stunning
Only a minute long I wanted to see a little more of the sunken ship
That is a beautiful ship
Wow that’s very cool!
HOW COOL! It's made of wood but have survived water. It's hardly rotting
hmmmm is there bacteria there eating wood? no metal?
Now that's something that lives up to its name.
This is absolutely the last ship you'd think could ever be found!!!
I grew up going to a restaurant called Shackleton’s on Long Island. I’m sure they’re excited to hear about this.
Amazing that they found it. Hope to see it up close in a museum one day.
For the titanic they made it illegal to try and steal stuff from the ship or even attempt to bring it up from underwater. They wanted it to be in its resting place to honor all the people who died during the sinking. I wonder if we will do the same thing for endurance even if no one died
@@caroline3453 They won't be able for reasons mentioned in another comment, a treaty in Alaska and possible damages to the ship.
Amazing 🤩🤩🤩
Frigid waters kept micro & macro organisms away (for the most part)
This ship was preserved, longer than my relationship
Not many stories can claim epic journeys as this one.
Damn I was thinking this would be a 20 minute documentary I was taken aback when it ended
omg I saw this in class it looks so cool
Absolutely amazing i thought the ice had crushed it to bits all those years ago
Wow! Amazing!
Stunning!
This is pretty cool.
It really lived up to its name! Endurance; the fact or power of enduring an unpleasant or difficult process or situation without giving way.
They need to put a rush on rescuing the ship it’s needs to be in a museum
Sadly, it can’t it’s at 10,000 ft below sea level.
To put into perspective the titantic is 12,000 ft
So,, it’s not happening. But it will still be preserved in the ocean which would probably be a better place to keep it in tbh
Absolutely amazing 💯❤️
Amazing!
The ship really lived up to it's name.
It must be raised and preserved for future generations. It won’t last forever down there
One cool ship
Totally amazing
Mind boggling
Wow... Actually really cool
Imagine getting viral recognition like this guy did so many years later
