I agree with another comment, your greatest strength is your massive amount of content and what seems to be a video available for every app. Thanks Doug for all the excellent top notch content!
Can I send a midi command to operate the drum app? Does anyone know?: I want to use these drum apps live. Is there a way to control them live, via midi commands? I don’t want to be using the iDevice during live performance. I want to do that from the keyboard area, where my fingers already are. Can I send a midi command to operate the drum app? 🤔
🥁 Hello! I have asked on RUclips to no avail or reply. So here I go, is there an app that contains many rhythm styles and patterns built in for me to edit or play along with in different music generes? I got Drum Computer and want another one that’s AUV3 to jam/sequence in AUM. Hopefully something in the lines of a Boss Dr-880. Any guidance to apps will be appreciated! 🥁
There is a really good one called Hammerhead, that is AUv3, and very powerful, plus you can program it too. The Lumbeat Drummer apps are amazing but they are only Inter App Audio and not AUv3. Cubasis has tons of built in drum machine and lots of pre-programmed patterns in all sorts of styles. Then there is FAC Drumkit, but you would need a midi sequencer to program it, something like Polybeat is excellent for that. Koala Sampler can also do tons of cool drum stuff, but you would need to program that. Also, Sitala, BeatHawk and many more. Most of them do require some programming on your part though. I have made literally hundreds of drum based video. One that definitely will help is called DigiStix by 4Pockets. That has loads of preset patterns and kits, and you can program full songs, import your own samples if you want, it’s probably the best one. Just enter this as a search on RUclips “The Sound Test Room Drums” hopefully some of the stuff you find will help you out a bit👍😊 Let me know how you get on.
@@TheSoundTestRoom fantastic reply and pointers will get into the videos and also check the apps. I want to learn to program but also want to see patterns in action prior to jump into building the patterns. Main reason to seek fro these type of apps that have patterns included and work with AUM. You rock Sr! cheers
Yes, there is an App called Soft Drummer by Lumbeat, here is the App Store link apps.apple.com/gb/app/soft-drummer/id1120957633 There are also lots of video demo/tutorials on RUclips
Do these drum programs work with a Bluetooth pedal like the original bluebird with 4 pedals? Like a start and stop and transition with the pedal board?
Hi there, and thanks for your tutorials. Is there any way to export a song as an audio file from the apps written by Luis Martinez (Rock drum machine, etc.)?
Hi. Thanks for the reviews. Based on this, I tried XDrummer and DM. However, neither solved my issue of connecting a Alesis DM Lite drum kit and making the hihat work properly (with open / pedal closed sounds). Have you tried this with the Funk/Rock Drum Machine? Any other advice for this?
Thanks for the demo, I’ll check these out. In the world of iOS if I can’t export midi to a PC it’s a waste of time. The good news is there are some great apps that do this.
which ones?are any of them free?i need something that lets me export midi and lets me PLAY the drum pattern in real time (not just program it mechanically).dont care bout the sound quality.i just need something to let me make drum patterns while im on the bus or something so i can export the midi when i get home...know of anything that would fit the bill?
2:43 Funk Drummer is what I have against most of these apps, they over complicate. When I'm playing live and that rate and review bar pops up its distracting. for a 17.99 app, i don't expect it to beg me for a review. i don't make dance groove.s I need fast and furious slamming beats No complex drumming finesse or subtle ghost strokes. Now with Audiobus most of the controls are obsolete if your gong mix music Audiobus has it all. Sorry about the rant thanks for the video stay cool.
Is there a way to use these with a footswitch for live performance? If so, what is the name of the footswitch device? Really nice demos. Thanks so much.
It depends on the app and if it supports midi controllers, all of the Lumbeat Apps, Rock Drum Machine, Funk Drummer, Reggae Drummer, Soft Drummer and Future Drummer all have special controls for using a Midi Pedal or Footswitch. There are loads of controllers but you might want to check out IK Multimedia and their Blue Board
Yes you can, I almost made a Matter demo today, but decided to wait till I start my LumaFusion tutorials later this week when the LumaFusion update drops, but you can make s short 15 second video with Matter and then save it to the camera roll, from there you can easily import it into LumaFusion
Are any of these free? I'd like to download them and try them out but all I can see here are iTunes links. I don't want just hear demo tracks made with these, I'd like to download these apps try them out myself on my tablet.
Yes there is a free version of Rock Drum Machine but you find that there are hardly any music apps that are free to try then buy later, there are a few but not many, however if you are not satisfied with an app you can get a refund for anything you buy from Apple
I really like the Live Pads in the Luis Martinez apps. Do any other apps have something like this for jamming and choosing from a limited set of patterns, triggering fills, breaks, etc. on the fly?
I am kind of new to all of this so this might be a stupid question, but can I use my Roland TD 17 kit as a midi controller and play the sound? I know I can do it with my garage band app
You somehow are able to have a video for every app I'm interested in, which is great. Yet you also somehow seem to ramble on for 40 minutes in each video, without actually saying anything of substance. It's an art, really.
Nice review ! Just a question : I'm looking for an app to use with a band (one guitar, one bass and one singer but no drummer). We are just doing covers of various songs for fun (mostly rock, pop and folk). Which apps would you recommend me ? rock drummer ? x drummer ? Actually, I'm looking for a "beatbuddy-like" apps...
Doug, which one of these 5 do you think has the best acoustic drum sets/sounds. There are lots of apps out there with good synth drum sounds but I am having a hard time finding acoustic drum apps that sound good. Thanks Man!
Hi Slim, these are the App that I think have fantastic Real Acoustic drums, so if you want rock drum, Rock Drum Machine is excellent, so is Drum Perfect but it's harder to learn, you should also check out Drum Session, that is very very good too and I will be making a demo very shortly for that also, here is a link for it for you to have a look at itunes.apple.com/us/app/drum-session/id1030319584?mt=8&uo=4&at=1l3voJz
Thanks Doug. Payday tomorrow so maybe I can spring for a new toy. Yeah, for sure. I appreciate you taking the time and contributing to my education. I am Grateful. Slim
thesoundtestroom Thank you so much.....I do enjoy your video clips on all of the iOS apps. I have been a windows user forever and just switched to both Mac and iOS this year. Please keep up the excellent work.

DigiStix is really very good

Can I connect my electric kit with all these apps? Great video..
Have you used drum session?
Yes, I made a 15 video Tutorial Series for Drum Session, here is a link to that Playlist

I own RDM it’s is not cheap at $18, but it seems worth it. I like it. I got Soft Drummer too which is pretty amazing.
That cool Doug looking forward to seeing your LumaFusion stuff, heard that the update was coming soon.
Nice lineup. I couldn't agree more.

Can I export midi out of X Drummer to use with a vsti such as Superior Drummer or Addictive Drums on mac or pc?
You can. I exported a song pattern as midi and used it for groove agent in Cubase 8

Gusto T if they have midi IN they will work.

so do you think garage bands drum app compares to these ?
