  • This video shows the machining of a Linear Actuator used as a Z Axis base for a CNC Router. The CNC milling process is performed on a 3 axis Okuma Genos M560V.
In the process the vise is gradually clamped with less torque for the roughing (40 Nm), semi-finishing (9 Nm) and finishing process (3 Nm) to decrease deformation.
A brief (non-scientifical) demonstration of the flatness achieved in the first part of the process is given by showing how the part glides on the granite surface plate and temporarily wrings to a previously machined aluminium plate; then an indicator is used while the part is leveled on three points to confirm flatness on the long side only.
A final measurement shows the parallelism of the linear rails ways compared to the opposite flat surface, the small bumps on the indicator are due to the contact of the indicator stylus with perpendicular surfaces. The measurement of the parallelism of the reference walls of the linear rails ways is yet to be performed.
