I know most of us wanna blame BK back then for not putting a label warning, thou part of me kinda wanted to know if said parents were in the same room with their 3 year old toddlers playing around with this toys before they had to unfortunately call the ambulances. Sorta makes you feel bad that those kids never got to see how many generations pokemon would be today if by some chance they still enjoy pokemon. Hard to believe thats alot of McDonald choking hazard toys
I remember my grandma took all my poke balls away. I felt so upset because I amassed a whole bunch of them by trading and I felt insulted that someone would assume I’d choke as a preteen. I bet those would of been very collectible too. First world problems am I right lol
I think, iirc, McDonalds also did a Pokemon promotion way back when, too. I remember the Poke Ball being similarly designed, but the toys inside were plush like beany-babies. Actually, now that I think about it, I seem to recall McDonalds also doing a "Teeny Baby" toy lineup for their happy meals at one point back then. I remember getting the squirrel from it; I still have that little guy. I have to wonder about the Step-It, meanwhile...maybe the reason the Step-It gave kids blisters might have been due to the material used in the wristband; like, maybe it was a certain chemical or combination used in the...I guess it looks like latex...of the band? Maybe it had a material found in certain fabrics that can cause allergic reactions? That's the best I can gather, honestly. :/

@15:30 there have been countless stories like this involving many talking toys. Parents always claim the toys are saying something offensive but when you listen to it, it's either misunderstood or it's gibberish.

Yeah this toy was made for a quick buck and honesty, if I knew this happy meal toy was around, I would be saying WTF too.
I am always gobsmacked by how many parents give their under 4 children plastic toys and/or small toys or toys that can break in to parts. With toddlers it’s basically only toys larger than their mouth that can not be broken and are not concave (smothering hazard). And even those toys are not supposed to be left with children unless supervised. Almost any toy can become a danger to a curious child (some much more than others) so it’s so crazy to me when people let their kids just have toys out of sight.
Amazing video Josh. I have heard of quite a few of these actually. I don’t think I have ever kept a fast food toy for more than a month. They really are cheap
I was wondering if the Burger King suffocation Poke Ball would be on the list, and you did not disappoint Strider. As for my thoughts on it. As a designer and toy collector there is a lot of art in fast food toys, despite their cheapness in more recent years. Some fast food toys from the 80s/90s and even 2000s rival mass retail toys. There is a lost art in fast food advertising, toys and junk food packaging. It’s a weird niche interest of mine that often gets overlooked, but it’s art non the less.
i totally agree! it's a fascinating art kinda overlooked but the appearance and design of things associated with food is a pretty big part of the eating experience-you dont really want to eat something that comes from off-putting packaging, do you? designers can be really creative
i actually had one of those step-it watches! mine was probably broken or defective though, cause it didnt work as soon as i took it out of the happy meal box. Maybe that was a blessing in disguise though.
Too be fair, I don't think Burger King should be the only ones blamed for the Poke ball incidents. It is also the parents' responsibility to pay attention to what the child is doing. Sure, BK should have made the warnings upfront but still. Also, yes there is a Back to the Future cartoon along with The Mask, I think an Ace Ventura cartoon, Robocop cartoon, A Rambo cartoon I think.
I guarantee you, fast food toys were the combatants of most of the action figure "battles" we had as a kid. What easier way to have crossovers from the farthest reaches of pop culture?
Seriously...I Had ALOT MORE HappyMeal Toys Then Those Actually Purchaced in Stores! As MY Parents Weren't Loaded Enough To Provide Every New Fad Which Came About & AT LEAST KidsMeals Had Food with It.
I remember getting the Step-it with happy meals when I was younger. I never opened any of them besides the 1st one I got, and I never even considered reselling my unopened ones
I've seen the Back to the Future animated series, Strider. It picked up after Part 3, and had live action segments with Christopher Lloyd and Bill Nye the Scientology Guy.
Great video. I remember seeing the Back to the Future cartoon when it was first on. Sadly it did not have the charm of the original, though it did have some live action bits with Christopher Lloyd that were fun. The Bill and Ted animated series was better.
BK's Pokemon scandal is very complicated because while the fault was of the parents, the way they took pride in not making an announcement or whatever to calm things down is insane like... Just say "we're sorry about what happened, here's a PSA about how to be a better adult and again, we're really sorry" what's the problem in it? Maybe the recall didn't even happened if they didn't acted like assholes.
I remember the Pokeball case. I never found out but the parent that let it happen should have gotten charged for child endangerment if not more. The Toys clearly said, "3 years & up" and last I checked 13 months younger than 3 years old. The child dyeing was clearly not Burger King's fault and why should they have recalled it. I never return my kid meal Pokeballs, I still have them all. As for the other two case, you never gave the ages or how the toy harmed them. So, we must assume that they were younger than 3 years old and the same thing happened, considering that all the Pokeball toys later had holes in them.
I love fast food toys, and the concept is heartwarming! For my birthday on April 14, I received my very first set of fast food toys: My Little Pony: The Movie (2017) set of 8 Happy Meal toys! The set includes Pinkie Pie Pony Toy, Pinkie Pie Mask Toy, Rainbow Dash Pony Toy, Rainbow Dash Mask Toy, Rarity Pony Toy, Rarity Mask Toy, Princess Twilight Sparkle Pony Toy, and Princess Twilight Sparkle Mask Toy! I love this set, and I have the toys, their instructions, their accessories, and their cardboard tokens organized on my dresser with my other My Little Pony toys! I can't wait to potentially get more My Little Pony kids meal toys in the future! Extra: I remember having and drinking from one of those Shrek: The Third glasses. I believe it was the one with Donkey on it, but luckily I never experienced any problems with it. Regardless, that glass is long gone and I'm happy it is, because it could've potentially caused my death if I still drank from it. Eh, I'm not a Shrek fan anyways. 😊

I think I still have that pokemon fast food toy just not the actual ball container. Sadly that PSA went over my head to not really know exactly how dangerous this was.
Your grandma did this, so she can protect you
your grandma did this so she could sell the pokeballs to buy gift cards for a nigerian prince
From what I could find apparently it was the battery that caused the burns and blisters.
@@AiLoveAidoru *facepalm* Uh...wow...okay...that's actually WORSE than what I thought it'd be. I shudder to ask...what kind of battery was it? I can't imagine a device so simplistic would need a particularly powerful battery, but you never know with McDicks. :/

When you said Music CDs toys for Wendy’s, it gave me warm memories of the songs that played on the Kids Bops CDs you can get as a toy from McDonald’s!
In my opinion, the Back to the Future animated series is pretty good, it picks up sometime after the 3rd movie and features a rebuilt Time DeLorean
I actually knew that the pokemon toys from burger king was gonna be in there!

I look forward to these videos like I looked forward to cartoons in the morning as a kid fr
All BK had to do was recall the balls temporarily and drill a tiny hole in them to prevent a vacuum-seal. Hell, the restaurants could have done it themselves, but the money was just too good, I guess.

I wanna see more of Boo! He's such a cool dude

Aw, I remembered listening to the Wendy’s cds. I couldn’t get that song Ain’t No Mountain High Enough out of my head when I was a kid! As for the Minion “Swearing” Toy, it sounds more like it‘s saying…What the Buck?

All Burger King needed to do, was poke air holes in both ends of the Poke Ball. Or at least put a goddamn
choking hazard/suffocation warning on their product! Seriously, it's not hard!
there was, the parents were to blame for not watching literal babies as they showered.
Or parents should’ve just watched their kid
@@alexanderavila4662 Yeah, that part still frustrates me to this day.
@@Mooms Yeah, that too. Hense why I suggested Burger King add air holes to the Poke Ball. Just in case some stupid parent can't keep an eye on their infant.
@@nine_tails137 its that tendency to attack people in numbers and say they're the "little guy", in some shape or another its happened to most people or they've been part of that themselves which is something that happens a lot, I don't think I need to get too specific, I think that's why its easier for them to go for a corporation. When one pays attention many aren't so different as individuals and as groups to what they accuse some corporations of.

EXACTLY...Thank💖You!!
i totally agree! it's a fascinating art kinda overlooked but the appearance and design of things associated with food is a pretty big part of the eating experience-you dont really want to eat something that comes from off-putting packaging, do you? designers can be really creative
I really enjoy your videos man, thanks for dropping another!
i actually had one of those step-it watches! mine was probably broken or defective though, cause it didnt work as soon as i took it out of the happy meal box.

Probably whenever you scan the QR some of the Mickey toys you go through the person's search history what made them😂

I've seen the Back to the Future animated series, Strider. It picked up after Part 3, and had live action segments with Christopher Lloyd and Bill Nye the Scientology Guy.
That pokemon one could've been avoided if they drilled small holes in the balls. I mean it's so simple
That or the parents could have been parents and watched their kids.

Great video. I remember seeing the Back to the Future cartoon when it was first on. Sadly it did not have the charm of the original, though it did have some live action bits with Christopher Lloyd that were fun. The Bill and Ted animated series was better.
I think the Minion stopped before finishing with "are you doing getting these for your children?"
Lets go another phantom stirder video this must be good
I remember the Pokeball case.
It's always amazing to watch your videos and grab some snacks n watching your videos
