Last year I worked on a CT-F700 for someone. It is a sweet deck. It needed all new belts and I used rubber renue on the idler wheels. I was able to feed the belt behind the flywheel by loosening a set screw on the back side of the flywheel. Saved me a lot of work. The darn thing would hum and one vu meter would go crazy when I turned off the Dolby. Leave Dolby on and it sounded fine. Couldn't figure it out.

Tape decks are the worst of both the mechanical and electronic worlds...gremlins abound on the inside :)

I am replacing belts on like model deck, using what i believe to be kit from similar source. you make mention of "not losing washer on capstan shaft when removing flywheel", but no mention of washer on end of capstan shaft when removing same. My question is: 1. instructions from kit supplier make no mention of washer on shaft under flywheel, but you show one on yours. 2. your deck shows washer under flywheel, but not on end of capstan shaft. 3. service manual shows washer in both locations, mine has washer on end of capstan shaft but none seen under flywheel. Is this washer under flywheel to work as a "thrust washer"/spacer" and/or to eliminate friction, and is the one on end of capstan shaft there to "retain" shaft?

By the time we get to these it's likely that someone has already been in there, so I'm sure parts are missing. I cannot speak to the purpose of each component. What you're asking would make sense but I can't answer the questions.

Most likely you'll see a black washer stuck to the capstan itself. Mine was

I have one I just recently replaced the belts. It will FF rewind and play but it plays at a slow speed. And suggestions?

Adjust the speed on the capstan motor - there is a small rubber stopper on the back of the motor that you can slide a tiny flat screwdriver into and adjust the speed. Keep in mind that the motor may need to be serviced (re-lubed) if you cannot get the speed dialed in.

Heh... I might have an answer :) Go back to the bracket that holding flywheel. On right side there is a another bracket with 2 switches ! Make sure switch behind the flywheel is ON TOP of the pivoting arm and make sure switch is engaging when you turn PLAY , FF or REW :) Adjust and tighten small screw that this bracket secured with .
Door open got messed up when you was fiddling with that bracket. Right close to the motor there is white plastic arm that goes vertical with spring right behind the motor. Try manually operate it to make sure door opens. This should help

Just did something similar, will post video soon. I think spending more then 10$ on this deck is not worth , IMHO

The more I work on Nakamichi decks, the more I'm convinced that these silver pioneer decks - while nice looking - aren't nearly as reliable as a good Nak deck is. I tend to agree with not putting too much $$ into them.
