The Echorec is a plugin emulation of the classic Binson Echorec machine from the 50s and 60s, made famous by Pink Floyd among others. The Echorec has the same features as the physical machine and the lush, ethereal sound heard on albums like Meddle and Dark Side of the Moon.

That opening on the bass is insane (One of these days).
It really nails that Binson character. The short notes got that "bounce" from the delay and it sounds like reverb on the sustained notes.

I don't know if "copying" tones is looked down upon for original music, but I at least get so much joy from just sitting in my bedroom and playing Gilmour riffs with a Fuzz Face mini and Catalinbread Echorec.

Bias FX2 does a good job
Pulsar make the highest quality plugins, I've heard much smarter/skilled people say their plugins are on another level compared to the rest of the plugin market
I'm not smart or skilled but this is by far my favourite delay/echo plugin and I've never heard any other plugin that does the Binson this well.

Great review as always Bjorn, when you upload a new video there is always something new to learn, even for a long-time follower like me👍The sounds of this plugin are convincing, it seems to capture the DNA of the old Echorec, but honestly they didn't make me want to sell my Gurus Echosex2 LTD 😄

The boss dd200 almost does this bounce on standard delay but by shifting the part of the note that’s echoed. So you loose the initial attack of the note. At least it’s closer to my ears than anything else on the dd200. No where near the real thing I know. Is this how the echorec in part get its unique wondrous DG sound?

Amazing video as always Bjorn! How does the pulsar echorec plugin compare to the expensive boutique pedals that recreate the binson echorec sounds, such as echosex?
The Echosex is soundwise closer to a Mamemory Man, with Binson features. My favourite is the Boonar.

Another great video. Now I have a question. Do you think you can recreate Gilmour’s tones using a device like the Line 6 Pod Go or Helix? Would be an interesting video since you can switch between several different amp and effects setups with a single push of a footswitch and also have them work like a regular pedalboard.

Yes, You can get his tones with just about anything. Depends on how you set up the gear you use. I've been using Line 6 in my home recording studio for years and IMO they're especially good on modulation and delays.

Hi, I came across this video by chance. Very interesting. What I'm wondering is what effects there are on David Gilmour's voice in Money. How did they create that sound on the voice?
I haven't looked into that but by the sound of it, probably a short reverb or delay.

I have a question in regards to all tube BINSON ECHOREC - ECHO UNITS copies available today, in your opinion what's the unit that you found to be best sounding overall that has a close warm analog tube like sounds when comparing to a Tube BINSON? Great playing....Thank you so much for all great playing and videos.
There have been some attempts at building replicas of the Binson. Very limited quantities and I've never tried them. Among the pedals, that don't have tubes, I think the Dawner Prince Boonar comes close. At least in terms of features and how the multiple head setups manages to capture that reverb like echo. The Strymon Volante is also great.
I tried to install demo version offered on their web site, but my logic got stuck after the installation. Does anyone know what is the problem?

Hello Gilmourish, I have an important question maybe you can answer please? On the song Echoes from Pink Floyd, besides the seagull sound of the guitar, in the background of the track, there is a ghostly sound, playing there. Is this the bass making that sound or something else in effect? It sounds like a bass on an echo being rubbed or swiped perhaps? Maybe you know? Thanks for your help ✌
They did that live, so I assume that’s what we’re hearing on the album as well. A slide on the bass neck with lots of echo. There’s a lot going on during that section. Guitar, bass, keyboards and sound effects.

I haven't tried it.
A cool looking plugin for sure-- but I've found Soundtoys Echoboy does it all and more.
I don't agree. I've used the Echoboy for years and as much as I love it and depend on it in my production and mixing, it doesn't do the Binson anything near this.

It's nice for a delay, but really doesn't sound like a real Binson. I have a few of them. My channel has some demos too. Nothing digital has ever been able to accurately recreate the magnetic drum head. Especially the reverb sound it makes from long repeat tails. BTW, nothing I've seen out there can replicate the Binson Echorec, really, I've been looking for years at this point. The Boonar does the best at the multi head emulation. Look at all the different pedals available that say they recreate the Binson sound... they all sound different. 🤔
Absolutely but I think you also can agree that two seemingly identical Binson units sound different due to age and wear. The Pulsar is a digital plugin and obviously won't capture all the physics of a real unit but with some tweaking and in a mix it's pretty impressive.
