It's a common practice. BMD-4M is able to shoot from closed positions with UAV correction by design, and I suppose the new fire control system also has a "shoot SPA-mode at GPS coordinates" option.

its Russians shooting from BMD 4 in Cherson. Since Herson Enot is Russian telegram channel which has cute raccoon as their mascot. He got his own kevlar vest, small helm etc. :D guess its now somewhere behind the Russian lines.

I've seen a video of BMP-3 shooting in ukrainian trenches from behind a hill so they definetly use this tactic in the war.
