I'm glad you finally got the chance to play this even if parts of it were disappointing [to many people, at least]. I'm not watching the whole thing (particularly with it just being the game with no commentary), but at 7:15 when Safi asks "So what are we looking for exactly? Besides photographing random detritus?" and Max responds "Most of the shoots I do I find a... focus. Something to hang the rest of the series on", I believe they are doing wordplay. I just came to this realization now when listening to the start of your video. "Detritus" refers to loose fragments or particles broken off from a larger whole - that could easily be the meteor shower that breaks off the asteroid as it passes by the Sun. And I think the quote is being literal about hanging the rest of the series on it. We know now that Double Exposure is more than just a single game but leads into a series of at least 2 games. I think they're haning the rest of the series on the asteroid. Since Deck Nine went ahead and made Safi alone cause a storm (which I think is kinda dumb but whatever), if Safi gathers a bunch of super-powered characters together at Caledon in the next game maybe collectively they could cause a bigger problem, like an asteroid. This would be severe enough for Max to want to go back in time to "the last photo Safi took" again and actually shoot her, thereby stopping the other characters from meeting and gathering and thus stopping the asteroid. It's not how *I* would like to see an asteroid stopped, as I've wanted Daniel's power involved and felt there were hints toward that. But it would make sense as a reason to stop Safi. Maybe there is even a final choice to kill Safi or not, and Double Exposure plays off the idea that either choice might be canon by having both of them create a reality for Max to experience in Double Exposure. Perhaps when Max decides ultimately to kill Safi she's instead made to not exist rather than to exist. Either she's wiped like Alderman or Max simply choses to make the "Dead Timeline" Safi be the real Safi instead of what she chose during Double Exposure (the "Alive Timeline" Safi). Not sure how much this all makes sense. It's late at night, and sometimes I have crazy theory thoughts late at night. It's how I first came to a version of Asteroid Theory based on Daniel's LiS2e2 quote "I can do it with the small rocks, but not the big ones." But my point is... maybe Asteroid Theory is still on. That "hang the rest of the series" quote inside the Nebula bowling alley was just too on-point. It's like "What is this planet. We've never been here before. Maybe we're on the edge of the Universe?" from Captain Spirit, where we could take his words to refer to Life is Strange 2 (the planet in this metaphor) being on the edge of the Life is Strange Universe.
I'm totally buying your theories! Many of the things we mentioned in either of our asteroid theory videos either happened in DE ("Future Max" possibly being Safi's killer, powers once again causing another natural disaster, timelines colliding) or could very well happen in the sequel. And I think many of your predictions about Daniel's involvement may very well come true in the next game considering how this game ended, it would make total sense considering how this game felt like it was an incomplete story on its own and was more of a vehicle used to set up a sequel with more superpowered characters returning. I also believe what you said about the sequel likely ending with Max "having" to kill Safi (or deciding not to) because we never saw what drove Future Max to that extreme decision in this game. And the more we hear now about D9 having already started working on the sequel for quite a while, I am convinced now more than ever that Rachel Amber is returning in the DE sequel, I can totally see Max travelling back to the past to get help from Rachel and Chloe from BtS. At the rate things are going, I think we're gonna have a Team Max vs Team Safi X-Men showdown lol. That would explain the rumours of Kylie Brown returning to LiS earlier this year and the unreleased Rachel Amber merch that SQEX has been withholding etc. I'm guessing Daniel and Alex are gonna get caught in the middle of the "war" and perhaps the branching paths in the game will come from whether Max is able to convince Daniel and Alex to join her instead of Safi.
I love the game and played it until the third episode on my Switch but when I wanted to start the fourth episode, all my progress was gone and I think i can't just start the fourth episode in the middle without playing the previous episodes. I'm so mad 😭😭
