If you have the means to do a degree, do not go for shortcuts. After your degree or during your last year , you can add your certifications. Big SA corporates like degrees, but smaller companies focus more on skills, so if you have your certifications, you won't struggle. In summary, it depends on where you are in life and the available means.

With the current proposed university fees' increase and a decrease in NSFAS's allocated budget from treasury, it's totally unfair that we get taxed so much for jobs the government doesn't help us find and for going to school without the government 's help.
