  • How to play Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple
In this guitar lesson tutorial, we look at how to play Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple.
The song features perhaps the most recognisable guitar riff of all time which is written using a four-note blues scale in the key of G minor. It was first released on their 1972 album Machine Head.

I've been playing this record for a good many years now, and I happened upon this video by accident really. Never considered playing the riff at the 10th really love it, strange been doing a string slide but now it becomes obvious why it happens on the record. Thanks mate.

This is a masterful lesson; it it beyond comparison to other Utubevideos; give the author all of the credit he is due on this (and it is copious) and be enriched as i have been.

Could you please show us pictures of the scales used in this solo? (boxes / forms / patterns).

Hey, would you be able to do a lesson on pink floyds lucifer sam, and/or astronomy domine (syd barrett version), thanks. Your lessons are always spot on! One small thing that I think they need is a play along at the end of the lesson though. Btw, that is the coolest guitar I've seen.

As a suppleme, try lesson i d love to hear u play the whole song at speed. Yr tone and feel r great. Also calling out the fret numbers and stri,gs is much better than yr other method which i commeneted on earlier. Excuse typos
