I corresponded with John Bentley over a 30 year period he had a long radio career going back to the mid 1930s plus many films and west end plays not to forget regional tours and television. He also had a fine singing voice. I had not heard this play before so a real bonus. Thank you for posting it.

I enjoyed this very much (though it's really too dark for a cosy armchair listen). However, at the risk of being irritatingly pedantic, no Anglo-Catholic clergyman could possibly be ignorant about St Hilda (1:21:21) who, far from being simply 'a virgin martyr', or indeed any kind of martyr, was the energetic and much-respected Abbess who presided over the Synod of Whitby. Small details like this do rather give away the fact that Nicholson is a script-writer's idea of a priest, not the real thing!
