Unreal Tournament Soundtrack - Go Down

- Unreal Tournament was THE contender to Quake 3 back in 1999. Since then it is fondly remembered as one of the greatest multiplayer games ever made and still has a very active player base.

Whats even more crazy to me is how every sounds in the game were designed to jam with the beat of what ever song is being played at the time. May it be weapons firing, pickups, deaths or character voices/taunts it was like the whole game was a music of its own... They sure dont make games like that anymore. This one had a soul.
It's not the same vein, but there are games where the sound design is layered to the music. Portal 2, Lumines (heck, any Q Entertainment game) to name a couple.
But for competitive FPS everybody's obsessed with hearing footsteps and stuff now so music is minimal or nonexistent...
@@JacobMasenSmith Doom 2016 and Eternal do that too. The music corresponds to what is happening at that moment to keep up the flow.
Oh, yes! And the thing is, I don't think they had a mental framework for doing all of that. I suspect it might've all been individual unarticulated inspiration and the freedom to create that permitted it. Some like to speak of divine inspiration. I think that probably comes closer to what really happened than any theory on how to make a top-of-the-line product or a great work of art.
BPM - Bullets per minute and Metal: Hellsinger do exactly this, you actually HAVE TO match the beat intentionally :)
people answering you when they miss the point, some games do some good sound design around their levels but this OST just masks itself with sound enviroment magically the scales are often the same, genius.
UT99 is still the best from all UT series
roger that!
Has the best soundtrack, too.
Indeed.. Question is why.. I mean why didnt they manage to make the sequals as good? it's just weird.
Yep! Too bad it's a total mess trying to play it today on PC.
@@prestonorrick4317 Go get the GOG Version - it runs fine on modern systems. They have UT2004 as well
I remember this track distinctively. Used to play G.O.T.Y. edition over the lan when I was deployed to Kuwait back in 2002.
After work, me and 2 of my buddies, as well as 10 other ppl in different offices across the base, sat at our desks, and deathmatched all night long. We didnt sleep much.
Good times man, good times!
Wow you must really miss those times now. At the time it was 9 years Ago you did that now its 19 years Ago... Longer than ive existed.
Who was the best player? Haha
I remember there was some Modern Warfare like mod for Unreal Tournament called "Infiltration" I've played
Such a cool story
@@GameMaker3_5Assault?
Oh how time flies back. I am 34 now and still remember this music... and also this game was the coolest back then...
Xan: "You are inferior!"
ah inferior lol
Agreed. I am just grateful we got to experience the rise of games and the internet in this pure form, having had nothing before.
@@JS-gw5bg Your elitism is painful.

~A 32 year-old who still plays UT99 to this day.
Can confirm, as a fellow 34 year old listening to this shit at 3am. Arena shooters opened my eyes to gaming way back when...
i like how everyone mentions remembering go down from deck 16 when i remember it from hyperblast
Getting wrecked by Xan over and over again in Hyperblast does that.
Xan: You are inferior!
Me: Roger that! :D
Yup just gonna camp this shieldbelt
“Anyone else want some!?” “Oh yeah!” 🤣
He's like.
"Yeah okay buddy"
"Flesh is a design flaw"
Best franchise ever!
Ah, Deck 16... the best multiplayer map in any game ever.
Yes. How can you beat a ship traveling through hyperspace? Zero g and normal physics in the same map made it epic.
sorry, but i think facing worlds is a bit better
don't get me wrong, i love deck-16
Alemayehu Solomon you're thinking of hyperblast, though it has the same song as deck 16
Best 1vs1 Map ever
Facing Worlds is my favorite map along with Foregone Destruction being my favorite track in any game ever.
UT99 is a truly a masterpiece
1:54 my favorite part
Thanks for the comment
mine too. soooooooo damn good
Them big corporations don't make multi-player shooters like this anymore.
Man i was maybe about 6 or so when i played this. Its so sad that my generation (gen z) will probably never play something as beautiful as UT99.
Yes I'm young generation but out of everyone I know whose part of my generation have no idea what ut99 is and it's saddening.
Witness my perfection !
Your "perfection" is about to get scattered over the walls.
"Target Lifeform Eliminated."
you know guys n gals UT wasn't a game - it was a way of life :D
Head Shot!
Double Kill!
Multi Kill!
Ultra Kill!
Kiiillin SprEEEEE!!!
UT '99 forever!
Mo-Mo-Mo-Monsterkill.. kill..kill..kill
WICKED SICK
@MaexxDesign
Sometimes you find the right spot and the AI enemies just drop like flies before a bug zapper.
Idk meng. I‘d say UT99 instagibbed Quake like an ion cannon from space. And yet, Quake lives on to this day. Impressive, hehe.
Epic games killed UT with shitnite, worst decision they have ever made
@@iPohujble I feel the same way about Prince of Persia and AC.
Hoooly shit it's been so long since i've last heard this, what a fucking beastly game!
2:22 I love the feeling of determination in this part.
2:22 best part imo.
1:12 is mine.
@@SolarisKane also good, but not the cream!
@@PartyQuest ay you're still here, awesome
@@Hi-vu3to yup, still kickin'
Same, that has always been my favourite part of the track
this one has a very matrix groove into it
Dodging flak shrapnels in slow motion
Deck16 and HyperBlast are amazing! That track is perfect suits both maps!
I am the Alpha and the Omega
Oh wow, best song of Unreal Tournament. I remember it so well. Back in those days, there wasn''t any youtube or stable internet to find it somewhere on the internet ;). Even if you had other things to do, you just loaded deck 16 (without pressing start) just to listen to the song over and over again.
haha thats exactly what I did too. Just load Deck 16 and keep it running in background. However we had great things as well, ICQ still hasnt found its equal and the old counter strike - quake 3 - UT99 era is unbroken.
I read somewhere that this was inspired by the music from "The Matrix" in one of the fights (possibly the final one) between Neo and Agent Smith, as requested by CliffyB who said he wanted that kind if music for the final level of the tournament ladder.
iLikeTheUDK yup, the composer was asked to make a track like spybreak from the matrix
It literally screams Matrix :-D
The Thicc beats during the lobby shootout come to mind....
Old good unreal tournament 1999 I love this sound I play unreal tournament with my dad
Even 22 years after sounds sick.
Fresh from having just been violated by Xan~ From winning 8-2 to being utterly shut down 15-8, and loving every moment of it.
Leave this classic in the past where it belongs, pure.
Favorite and most fun map

Ah the best theme from the best map. Good old Deck 16.
I wasted SO MUCH time playing this game back in college. Lots of people in my dorm would play this game through the school lan and we all had a blast doing it. It was this game and Mechwarrior 3. Good times. I really want to play this again.
That Redeemer under the elevator.
God, how Xan was tough. When I first played it on my Pentium 3 PC, it took me days for me to beat him, but God it was worth it.
I found that shooting the ground with the rocket launcher worked well.
All I have to do is listen to the first second of this track and then I remember why UT99 is still the best Unreal Tournament game of all time.
back when me and the boys would go to the library computers at lunch time, chuck our USBs in and have UT lan parties ... good times... gooood times ....
Fun fact - the noise from 00:09 - 00:14 in the left channel is a thunderclap played backwards.
seriously? lmao
Perfect harmony between the map and the music. I'm winding back time now - time to get back in DM-Morpheus and AS-RocketCommand.
* Shoots Redeemer *
Me- " YOU LIKE TH.... "
* Gets caught in Redeemer blast *
It's called the "redeemer" because it takes away all your sins.
Once the match starts, it was a mad dash to the sniper rifle, whoever gains control of it has practically control of the entire map. It also effectively locks down the Redeemer, and anyone foolish enough to try will find their head go missing before they even get their hands on it
Things got so bad at some point players were even willing to put aside their differences briefly and team up to take out this one guy, even though this is a deathmatch
Hell, there was a Domination edit of this map, with a single control point up there. The ensuing mayhem over that one spot was inhuman.
@@PrekiFromPolandThat edit sounds amazing lol
Deck 16... Ah the sweet memories!
Go Down or Razorback for #1 song? The whole OST slaps, man I miss lan parties or even just playing the campaign when I was a youngster, now 35.
You do realize that's like asking a parent who their favourite child is, right? It's a painful decision.
(That said, sorry GD, but Razorback's my favourite, that's the one that's getting the lion's share of the college fund.)
That moment when you can hear Alexander Brandon.
This reminds me to a mixture of the UNATCO theme from Deus Ex and something from Jazz Jackrabbit 2.
I keep hearing Jazz2 and Deus Ex all the time I hear UT'99 also xD
oh fuk thx NOW I GOTTA REINSTALL :)
Ah good ol' times when you kick Xan's ass.
yea.. lets say IF
J2RECOM If you can camp the shield belt with a Flak Cannon and arrange frequent visits at the armor, it's really easy even in the higher difficulties.
At least, that's from my experiences... I'm not gutsy or skilled enough to take him on head-on.
Cygnus' Edge I just keep Body Armor, Invisibility, and Shield on check.
imalsoTOMATO Yeah, once he grabs one of em, shit can hit the fan.
The bots always know where every resource is and they know when it's going to spawn. This normally isn't a problem: they're too busy killing each other to get too far ahead.
Xan was so much harder than the rest of them because he was your only opponent and because his patrol route could take him to every item just as it respawned. Xan would always rape you because he would come to every engagement better equipped than you.
If you took his resources first and kept denying him what he wanted, he became a piece of cake.
Memories.. I used to play the UT when I was too younger about 11-12 years old.. Never forget Deck16 and HyperBlast maps.. both were uniquely enjoyable..
I started playing UT99 at the age of 3 I'm 21 now and I still play it haha.
Whats you name om it i may have met you if you play monsterhunt.
one of the best games in the world i will never fergot all the hours i played this game
HyperBlast is my choice of map for a chaotic 16-man deathmatch with this blaring ❤
Brings so many good memories to my mind. Was 17 and had just finished school when i got this game. Didn't have a personal computer back then, wasn't allowed either, but i got the game and used to play late at night when my parents were sleeping on my mothers 14 inch office laptop. Still on pstn 56K back then, so yeah, just try to play online and good luck with that. This didn't stop me from enjoying this game so much even while playing, or trying to play, online. I am turning 40 soon enough, apparently i can now have my own gaming pc, i have my fast enough internet connection, but i still wish i could feel the same excitement as i did back them. Such a great game overall and such a great era for gaming (pc or not) as well.
Got this game for my 9th birthday and it still slaps today :)
Crazy nostalgia
Lol, in my childhood i played this game so much, in the "master difficulty". Now, I can't play "nocive difficulty" because is so hard for me.
Actually games are so easy.
Hyperblast ahh that memories the game still great
"Go down to deck16 , it's too hot here"
*grabs ripper*, shit's bouta go down
Needless to say, a lot of the UT Maps were.. DECKed out. XD
HAH! Deck 16 FTW!
How dare you :)
-I need some backup!!
Zac gets ripped to shreds by John's Repper!
-Red leader, you got point!
The best game i will ever play on the computer! Brings back memories :)

one of the best ost songs for one of the best maps
I gotta go to Deck 16 to get the ASMD Shock Rifle, Sniper Rifle, The Ripper, Flak Cannon, GES Biorifle, and the Rocket Launcher.
+don anderson you forgot the Redeemer
+Dejan Hrovat Oh yes i forgot the Redeemer. Thanks for reminding me bro!
+don anderson what about the link gun (or pulse gun). You forgot that too :(
Xan Saibot Oh yeah thats right. All of the weapons in UT99. Don't worry. I'll never forget that thanks man.
ASMD + Sniper = all you need...
For me, Unreal Tournament rules over all the other unreal tournaments.
DECK 69, was always my favorite map, i played unreal tournament when i was a kid, and i loved it.
"I'm on fire!"
I AM THE ALPHA AND THE OMEGA *O* AWESOME
One of my favorite games of all time and this song is too sick.
1:12-1:25 is my favorite part.
"You are obsolete"
0:15 for endless repeat :)
Now you can right click and repeat.
Teared up when listening to this again 🤦🏽♂️
Obrigado ...
Played the shit out of this game being 10 years old. Spam jump, flak, rockets, tp device, so many boomers i crushed.
"WItness my perfection!"
Deck 16 the place where u can relax :D
best freakin game ever
The game is awesome still today ... nice variety
GOD Like!!!!!! You have won the match.
Why don't they make shooters like this anymore. Best game of my childhood.
Because everything is "high production value" It literally takes like 9 dudes to make a map today. Each dude making $120-200k depending on state. A freaking map in DOOM 2016 probably took a year.
We did everything ourselves on Unreal and Unreal Tournament back then. The original idea, the design, layout, BSP, lighting, manually, textured every surface, ambient sound effects both looping and one-shots, pathfinding, enemy placement, triggers with events and tags. UT99 was fun because we could make a map in a day and play it all night. That meant we had months and months to tweak them for FUN.
And we loved every minute of it.
And we did not have any producers or publishers telling us wtf to do either :P
@@Classic_DM "We did everything ourselves on Unreal and Unreal Tournament back then."
You're talking pretty big for someone without any proof. Who is "we" in this situation, did you work on the game? Were you a prolific modder? Gush about how fun the game was all you want, but the moment you talk about the development process, I start wondering what games you worked on.
This song needs to be in UT4.. Or I won't play ;D
+bo0giem4n he on ut4 on deck16
Epic shut down the UT4 project at the end of last year. RIP
A good memory is better than a shit microtransaction filled "remaster".
UT must remain buried, untouched.
2:22 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At school (notebook class) we always played "200% speed instagib deck16". A "Gamemode" you can only realistically play after drinking 2-3 Red Bulls :D
my first pc game is the best pc game.. ironic. not even some iconic favorite games o mine like Bioshock, TheWitcher or Warcraft series don't play in same league it was and still is that good.
This is my favorite game of all time!
Nostalgia ^^
@EasyEnergy Ok, I get it now. Facing worlds for UT 3 was released as map pack, along with Morbias and Searchlight maps. I bought some edition that already has them added, and I was sure fw was in first version of UT3.
If you like this song, check out "Watching You" by Dance with the Dead.
Ahoy sent me here, and I've got a real urge to shock bomb fools in Deck ][16
just ONE of the ways this 11 year old game kicks Modern Warfare 2's ARSE! :D
OMG... the nostalgia. My brain cannot compute.
