UT needs to return to it's parody of EA sports games of old with UT. UT04 was the last gasp of fresh air for the series as a competitive shooter. Damn Fortnite to hell for taking away the spotlight from what could've been a great comeback for this franchise. No offense to fans of Fortnite but this was a different time, for a different gamer, an arguably better time at least in my opinion.
It feels like the times you describe are unfortunately inevitably gone.

Unreal Tournament and Unreal should be popular and not this that is popular right now from Epic games. Think of it all remade 1999(Unreal Tournament), 1998(Unreal) maps on Unreal engine 5 or 4, that would be beautiful.
The challenge arena shooters face ,and Quake Champions showed, is that their appeal is their flaw: they are very skill-based. Fortnite has little skill, and is very luck-based, which leads to situations were even noobs can survive long or even win entire rounds.
In comparison, newcomers to Q:C will die again, and again, and again, and again. And not score a single kill. Entire matches with not a single kill. Because Arena Shooters are very well balanced and rely on being all about skill, which means it's extremely punishing for newcomers unless the influx of new comers is wide enough they get to play with each other. Modern games have lowered the skill roof intentionally to avoid this issue.

I still remember, when i was kid playing This game, It was my first FPS game i played. I reached to the last level, spawnned in a Strange spaceship map with This insanely epic music playing, i kept roaming around to the map for 2 minutes without finding anyone, i was getting so tense. And then, all of sudden a Gray Skaarj mf appears and kills me in 1 Second.
When I listen to this track, I still remember walking around the semicircle at the back of the ship, hearing the little UI sounds as I picked up the health vials.
"Voom. Voom. Voom."
2.39 man, it's just perfect.

In UT music tradition, the best part of the track is at the end and goes for a few seconds lol.
EDIT: Mathematically speaking, the best part takes up 5.5% of this track (14 seconds) or 2.2% (7 seconds) of the high brass sound that I know I come back here for..

I only played against Malcolm but what the hell was this difficulty haha, I had to "cheat" a little bit, playing with spots to kill him before he gets too much armor or big weapons, but wow... So many good memories here, still a perfect ost even after all these years !
I feel so old thinking that younger people will think about Epic Games for Fortnite, whereas UT4 is such a masterpiece !
PS: I am not sure I can beat Malcolm without using some cheap tricks even now lol

I don't understand why Google Stadia won't revive this game on their servers. Being that it could once again provide Esport dominance that could rival FortNite. Competition would be fierce and the survivors would be rewarded with cash & prizes. All Google would have to do. Is heavily promote Unreal tournament challenges and players would flock Stadia to face-off against today's Esport players worldwide.
Because it is impossible to play this game with a 0.5 second delay i presume :P

You wouldn't need stadia to promote this. Epic Games totally needs to do it..they have the capability to do so, but I guess Fortnite is basically their moneyprinter, means that they probably don't care at all.
Unreal T 2004 was trying too hard to transfer everything into orchestra and cinematics, while totally stepping away from entire feel and atmosphere of UT99. I found it disappointing.
