Surprised no-one has mentioned this was written and produced by Pet Shop Boys. Breathy 80s synth-pop - I love it. A Top 10 hit all across Europe in 1988 (including the UK).
Patsy Kensit is an English Actress , she was in Lethal Weapon 2 with Mel Gibson & Danny Glover , she was also in Renegades 2022 , she has over 100 film & tv credits to her name . she started as child actress . she's been married 4 times and all her husbands are musicians . JIm Kerr lead singer of Simple Minds , Liam Gallagher of Oasis , Dan Donovan of Big Audio Dynamite & Jeremy Healey of Haysi Fantayzee .
Her father was a British gangster and close associate of both the Kray Twins and the Richardson Gang, earning himself the nickname "Jimmy the Dip", and was involved in the Great Train Robbery. The Great Train Robbery was the robbery in1963 of £2.61 million, (about £61 million today) from a Royal Mail train, the most famous robber was Ronnie Biggs. The film Buster which starred Phil Collins as Buster tells the whole story and is a good film with some of Phil's famous songs in it.
Random factoid: Patsy Kensit is one of the links in a really quite bizarre 'chain' of musicians who had children with each other. She was at one point married to and had a child with Liam Gallagher of Oasis, who during their marriage had an affair - which produced a child - with singer Lisa Moorish, who later also had a child with Pete Docherty of the Libertines. Liam later married and had a child with Nicole Appleton of All Saints (whose sister and bandmate Natalie, meanwhile, married and has a child with a different musical Liam, Howlett, of the Prodigy), while Patsy had previously been married to and had a child with Jim Kerr of Simple Minds - who had previously been married to and had a child with Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders... who previously was in a relationship with and had a child with Ray Davies of the Kinks!
Beautiful Patsy grow up in Hounslow London. Her Dad was associated with the notorious Kray twins, Reggie being her Godfather. Made her debut on TV with a Birds Eye Pea advert.
I highly recommend other Pet Shop Boys collaborations they did with other artists. The biggest two being 'What Have I Done To Deserve This' with the legend Dusty Springfield and also 'Losing My Mind' with Liza Minnelli.
This is a banger🎉 Pet Shop Boys wrote this one and their version is on their 1988 album. PSBs were doing some great work with female singers around this time (Dusty Springfield, Liza Minelli, Patsy Kensit...). Patsy's vocals are fairly unique, breathy. She formed this band with her brother. She went on to have a successful TV and movie career and is still a celebrity in Ireland /UK. This song is a forgotten gem from the 80s.
Patsy Kensit is better known to US audiences for starring in Lethal Weapon 2. That's the only reason I ever heard from the group, which also features her brother Jamie. She turned 20 a month after this was released, so she's 19 here.

this genre is italo-disco if you “don’t get it”; this is supposed to be a disco/dance/club song. Lyrics are of secondary importance. The atmosphere and feeling of the song is what’s important. Instrumental version of this is just as fine as a dance song (which this is) but of course her voice makes it MUCH better. "Cross My Heart" is the Eighth Wonder song with which I'm familiar. Inlike this one, though. It has a Pet Shop Boys sound, and that is one of my big-time favorite 80s groups.
They should have named this song "I'm Not Talented." I can't tell if you genuinely liked it or were trying to be constructive & non-judgmental. The reason her voice is breathy is because there's no strength behind it. Jay, your initial reaction without the video was trustworthy. If it takes a visual to pull us in to a song it's not worth listening to. I don't know who suggested this one, but I've seen some excellent suggestions in the comments. Do yourself & your audience a favor and react to tried & true talented singers like... ~Natalie Merchant (formerly with the band 10,000 Maniacs). Try: "Break Your Heart" (1998) "Carnival" (1995) "Kind & Generous" (1998) "Life Is Sweet" (1998)... ~Christie Hynde (formerly with The Pretenders). Try: Don't Get Me Wrong (1986) "Back on the Chain Gang (1982) "2000 Miles" (1983) "Middle of the Road" (1983) ~Maria Muldaur Try: "Midnight at the Oasis" (1973) "I'm a Woman" (1975) "Gringo in Mexico" (1975) Blessings ❤
you reacted to lethal weapon part two starring mel gibson and danny glover. she acted in this movie and she was the love interest of mel in the movie. this song was written by the pet shop boys. she has another amazing song named (cross my heart) written by stock, aitken and waterman, the ones who wrote never gonna give you up for rick astley plus a very huge number of hits.
I remember this one from 1988 I think. This is a good one, typical eighties with original vocals. Another very good eighties female was Alison Moyet-try 'Love Resurrection'-Colin Ward
Please, please, please Nanci Griffith!! So many songs to choose from, both fast and slow. How bout "Lone Star State of Mind", "Listen to the Radio", "Banks of the Pontchartrainz" or for a slow song, "Love at the Five and Dime " live at the BBC. Another great artist is Suzy Boggus and the song "Someday Soon".
Sorry Amber, hearing this was once too much. There are so many great female artists that you've barely touched on. *Crystal Gayle: * "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue" (Loretta Lynn's sister) *Alicia Meyers: * "I Want to Thank You" ** Barbra Streisand: * "The Way We Were" **Stephanie Mills: * "Feel The Fire". *" I Feel Good All Over" ( both of these have live video from Sinbad's Summer Concert). (Watch "I Feel Good All Over" to the very end as She leaves the stage and returns for an encore) *Shelly Fabries: * "Johnny Angel" ( song is from the 60's) * Diana Ross and The Supremes: * "The Happening". *" Ain't No Mountain High Enough" *Salt & Pepa: * "Push It" *Mariah Carey: * "Butterfly" *Leona Horne: * "Stormy Weather" *Nancy Wilson: * " The Very Heart of You" ***Aretha Franklin: *"Natural Woman"....(Video from Kennedy Center Honors Carole King who wrote this song and Aretha sings it as a tribute to Carole*** A MUST SEE!!
Eighth Wonder charted 2 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1988 & 1989. The same 2 tunes ("Cross My Heart" & Baby Baby") charted on the Dance chart. This is not one of those tunes.
Good choice, never made it big in the States but they were bigger in the UK. She sounds a little like Madonna a some of their songs. Please please react to Swing Out Sister soon (female Friday after all), "Breakout," "Waiting Game," "Am I The Same Girl", or "La La Mean I Love You." Corrine Drewery's voice is great!

Thanks Amber & Jay - I confess I hadn’t heard this before any enjoyed it. When you are ready to to return to a less “produced” sound there are several other women artists that really deserve your attention. I think that you have only reacted to ONE Mary Chapin Carpenter song. She has 17 albums ? and still going strong. 5 Grammies, 4 times best female vocal artist….you see where I’m going. Singer / songwriter that is a poet- lyrics are central to fully appreciating her. Beyond that, she defies being categorized like many artists that you have reacted to who have widely varied songs and surprise you with things that you just don’t expect. Try studio version of Rhythm of the Blues, This Shirt, He Thinks He’ll Keep Her, Stones in the Road, Jubilee, Almost Home, or perhaps a live version of Why Walk When You Can Fly, or Why Shouldn’t We on RUclips. Both of those come with brief comments from her about the songs at the beginning. Mary is a journey that once you open yourself up to, you’ll just keep going and going and going. You’ll be giving ALOT of people what they want….
I'd never heard of this group before. However, the lead singer looked so familiar to me. Looked her up. Now I know why she looks familiar. She played Mel Gibson's love interest in Lethal Weapon 2. Neat. Lol.
Not sure why you chose this song/artist since there are hundreds of other female singers/bands you haven't reacted to yet. How about Katrina & the Waves-Walking on Sunshine, Voice of the Beehive-Monsters & Angels, Bow Wow Wow- I Want Candy or Do You Want To Hold Me, Altered Images-Don't Talk to Me About Love, 10,000 Maniacs/Natalie Merchant, Cocteau Twins and more.
SOME COOL SONG CHOICES WORTH CHECKING OUT 1 Strip by Adam Ant 2 Living on the Ceiling by Blancmange 3 Let’s Dance by David Bowie 4 My Jamaican Guy by Grace Jones 5 Temptation by Heaven 17 6 Louise by The Human League 7 Suddenly Last Summer by The Motels 8 New York, New York by Nina Hagen 9 Indian Giver by The Ramones 10 Ways to Be Wicked by Lone Justice
Just a suggestion for you, you should do a video to The Passions - I'm In Love With A German Film Star'. The singer was Babara Gogan who needs a mention on your channel. The first 50 seconds of the song had some excellent guitar work. The echoing will just take you away to another place. It's a great song.
Oh my! I had forgotten all about this one. Its quite strange, but it was a hit! In The UK at least. Lead singer is Patsy Kensit, who started out as a child actor, and still is acting today. She was in "Leathal Weapon 2" with Mel Gibson & Danny Glover. Those are movies you need to get on your "Films to watch" list. Real action movies with a comedic undertone. ❤🎼🎬💙
Still love this song, I used to listen to it on long road trips to my grandparents I'd wind down the window and pretend to be a popstar with the wind blowing on my face and singing out the window lol. A suggestion for Female Friday is my favourite 80's female lead singer from the band Transvision Vamp "Baby I Don't Care" and "I Want your Love" Wendy James has an incredible voice.

Try: Don't Get Me Wrong (1986) "Back on the Chain Gang (1982) "2000 Miles" (1983)
"Middle of the Road" (1983)
~Maria Muldaur Try: "Midnight at the Oasis" (1973) "I'm a Woman" (1975) "Gringo in Mexico" (1975)
Blessings ❤
Toni Braxton
Basia
Phyllis Hyman
Karen White
Jennifer Holiday
En Vogue

Sooooo many better choices
You have to try ‘Stop’ by Sam Brown for female Friday
Another great Eighth Wonder song - Cross My Heart :)
"They Don't Know About Us" by Tracey Ullman, pretty please.
you reacted to lethal weapon part two starring mel gibson and danny glover. she acted in this movie and she was the love interest of mel in the movie.
this song was written by the pet shop boys.
she has another amazing song named (cross my heart) written by stock, aitken and waterman, the ones who wrote never gonna give you up for rick astley plus a very huge number of hits.
I would love to see your reaction to Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves,👏👏
She's not in the same league as Blondie, more like an imitation Blondie 😄
**** Imitation DEBBY HARRY?
@@kimberleymonari7544 Yes, to be more accurate 😄
@@PDXFilmmongersdon't agree, Debbie Harry is more savage, Patsi Kensit more like a Lolita.
Blonde is the band, not the singer 🙄
Yes, I'm aware of that 🙂
Good song written by Pet Shop Boys. I like their version a LOT better.
Sorry Amber, hearing this was once too much.
There are so many great female artists that you've barely touched on.
*Crystal Gayle: * "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue" (Loretta Lynn's sister)
*Alicia Meyers: * "I Want to Thank You"
** Barbra Streisand: * "The Way We Were"
**Stephanie Mills: * "Feel The Fire". *" I Feel Good All Over" ( both of these have live video from Sinbad's Summer Concert). (Watch "I Feel Good All Over" to the very end as She leaves the stage and returns for an encore)
*Shelly Fabries: * "Johnny Angel" ( song is from the 60's)
* Diana Ross and The Supremes: * "The Happening". *" Ain't No Mountain High Enough"
*Salt & Pepa: * "Push It"
*Mariah Carey: * "Butterfly"
*Leona Horne: * "Stormy Weather"
*Nancy Wilson: * " The Very Heart of You"
***Aretha Franklin: *"Natural Woman"....(Video from Kennedy Center Honors Carole King who wrote this song and Aretha sings it as a tribute to Carole*** A MUST SEE!!
Toni Braxton, Karen White, Heather Headley. Never reacted to them. Sarah Vaughn.
Melissa Manchester "Midnight Blue".." You should hear how she talks bout you"
@@jeggy7447 I love that song.
PJ Harvey, specifically "Down By the Water".
Agree, 👎. No worries….there’s many others out there!
Have a great wknd everyone! 🤠
Eighth Wonder charted 2 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1988 & 1989. The same 2 tunes ("Cross My Heart" & Baby Baby") charted on the Dance chart. This is not one of those tunes.
those 2 singles charted at #56 and #84 respectively
Lol, Jay describes his confused look and Amber says “ you look at me like that a lot.” He wisely moves on without comment.😂
They'd love Am I the Same Girl!
Amber...sometimes you're too kind. Lol!
Just found Lianne La Havas - Forget | A Take Away Show. Amazing solo female performance.
80 90 best years Happy life.the music of the 80s and 90s can never be compared with the music of today, other times were simpler and happier, they will never return again. Anyone who hasn't experienced it has missed something great
Before Fiona Apple? Before Natalie Merchant/10,000 Maniacs? Before Garbage?
What a joke. 🙄
Not to mention "Sweet '69" by Babes in Toyland, possibly the most kickass song by an all girl group ever.
@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee I'm on patreon and have sent many requests but had zero success And I usually request well-known songs, like "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" by Jet, which I know would be well received by the viewers.
Grace Jones, Patti Smith, Sandy Denning, Marianne Faithful, Kate Bush. So many so many.
Have you ever reacted to Missing Persons? Early 80s female lead singer. Songs: words, destination unknown...
I'd recommend "Cross My Heart" by this group. It was a big hit in Europe and peaked in the 50s on the US pop chart.
I'm'a Pass on that one... Made it as far as the chorus.
Ooh! Yes, please!
Throw in We Traveled So Far while you're at it.
SOME COOL SONG CHOICES WORTH CHECKING OUT
1 Strip by Adam Ant
2 Living on the Ceiling by Blancmange
3 Let’s Dance by David Bowie
4 My Jamaican Guy by Grace Jones
5 Temptation by Heaven 17
6 Louise by The Human League
7 Suddenly Last Summer by The Motels
8 New York, New York by Nina Hagen
9 Indian Giver by The Ramones
10 Ways to Be Wicked by Lone Justice
Been begging for that Grace track!
Don't hold your breath. I have no idea how they pick songs, most of them are so obscure or they just repeat the same artists over and over
@@JohnnyXoz Agreed. So many REAL classics they haven't touched yet they waste their time on ephemera like this. They need a vetting system!
Love this track, I was 15 when it came out '88 😊❤
Please react to KISS unplugged live....STILL LOVE YOU....iconic Paul STANLEY vocals in front of LIVE AUDIENCE....ENJOY AND THANK YOU GUYS!
That would be a good one for them to do the whole show. Knowing the back story of how all 4 originals got back together almost 20 years later too
His vocals are incredible on that live version👏👏👏
I won't watch until you do that song
Just a suggestion for you, you should do a video to The Passions - I'm In Love With A German Film Star'. The singer was Babara Gogan who needs a mention on your channel. The first 50 seconds of the song had some excellent guitar work. The echoing will just take you away to another place. It's a great song.
My top 3 foxiest female Uk singers from the 80's :1. Sade
2. Patsy Kensit
3. Annie lennox
No she is not scared, she is ablolutely gorgeous ! Fub f&act : Patsy Kensit plays the main female character in the movie : Leathal weapon 2
A Pet shop boys song, they made their own version on their album Introspective ❤
It'd be great if they reacted to the PSB version too.
They were also produced by micheal Jay who later produced Martikas debut
Still love this song, I used to listen to it on long road trips to my grandparents I'd wind down the window and pretend to be a popstar with the wind blowing on my face and singing out the window lol. A suggestion for Female Friday is my favourite 80's female lead singer from the band Transvision Vamp "Baby I Don't Care" and "I Want your Love" Wendy James has an incredible voice.
What an absolute banger of a track.
I forgot about this record, nice vibe to it.
Does anyone remember her appearance in Haircut 100's Nobody's fool video?
I would suggest checking out a band called Hurricane, very underrated 80s hard rock band, songs to start with are Hurricane, Temptation, Spark in My Heart, It's Only Heaven, and Over the Edge
Check out
Eric Clapton - Pilgrim
Queen - Princes of the Universe
Hootie & the Blowfish - Hold my Hand
Local H - Bound to the Floor
Cracker - Low
311 - Golden Sunlight
Counting Crows - Hangin' Around
Tonic - If You Could Only See
All bangers, you may have heard before.
If you wanna hear some amazing blues music definitely check out the album version of Marc Broussard - Home.
I wish you would have done Tori Amos..Winter…live it’s beautiful
Surprised Amber hasn't listened to Motown Legend Junior Walker and the All Stars, with her ❤ of the sax. "
What does it take" Roadrunner " "Shotgun "..etc
Or actual saxophonists who were popular in the 80s, Kenny G, David Sanborn, Najee.
Patsy Kensit had the lead female role in one of the Lethal Weapon movies as Mel Gibsons gf, the one with Joss Ackland in it.
SUGGESTION: Here's a TOTAL BANGER for you, 1964 surf hit CHROME REVERSED RAILS by PHIL AND THE FLAKES. Jordan will love this one (so will Amber)
The absolute best cover of the song "Have Love, Will Travel" was done by The Sonics in 1965. It's a must listen. Very underrated band
Never heard this song. Wish that were still true.
Song sucked!
CANADIAN... please 🙏🏻 do Tragically Hip New Orleans is Sinking
In the same way it's a sin grabbed Julie's heart, the pet shop boys have a knack of writing songs that make you notice
Come on Amber and give these awesome singers some love at least once.... Check out Stephanie Mills hits "I Feel Good All Over" " Comfort Of A Man" and the duet with Teddy Pendergrass "Feel the Fire" Still waiting on you to do other awesome soul singers like Phyllis Hyman(Living All Alone) and the most powerful singer Jennifer Holliday(And I'm Telling You) Betty Wright "No Pain No Gain" Lisa Fisher "How Do I Ease the Pain" Sylvia "Pillow Talk" Angela Winbush "Angel" Evelyn Champaign King "Shame"
Jennifer Holliday would be great. Lisa Fisher How Can I Ease the Pain has been requested so much. And she would be new.
No, its not meant to be "futuristic", it was just influenced by House Music, The Pet Shop Boys, and the success of Vanessa Paradis songs around that time.
Talking of the Pet Shop Boys you need to listen to Dusty Springfield's In Private. One of the best Tennant and Lowe compositions.
It was a big hit in the U.K. I love this track
I grew up in the 80s and am obsessed with the 80's. I've never heard this song before. 🤔 It's pretty good. How haven't I heard this, though?
You must live in a coal bunker if you grew up in the 80's and never heard this.
@@RITWINS Don't think it was a hit in the U.S.
@@Stevelives13 Ah right, yes I am in the UK.
Haven't heard of the name Patsy Kensit in a long time. Interesting that she did music. I highly request this suggestion: Freestyle--Don't Stop The Rock. Trust me, you'll want to hear it. Thanks!
Betty Boop singin' this................
For the next female friday I suggest two songs: "Thank U" by Alanis Morissette and "Nobody's wife" by Anouk
"Thank U" is a great pick.
