Just thinking the same thing. I went to my first Tennessee football game in 1967 as a 9 year old kid. This is what I grew up watching and became used to (other than a drought in the late 70's). I'm used to seeing Tennessee play defense the way these guys did in the 2nd half - dominating the line of scrimmage, linebackers flying all over the field, defensive backs breaking on the ball. It is almost bizarre how bad we have become. I was sure that this season (2019), we would finally get this big tanker ship turned back around and start moving in the right direction. Didn't expect to get to Atlanta, but that we would start seeing players lined up right and not blowing assignments and the defense playing together as a unit. Thought Jim Chaney would help Guarantano see the field, get the O-Line playing together and field at least a competent unit. I lost confidence in Pruitt after the Ga. State loss. Team looked unprepared, uncoached and uninterested. Pruitt looks lost.
Sad how quickly it fell apart butch had us so close he made 3 huge mistakes. But 1 thing I'll always be thankful of was him ending the streak. Ps we never knew just how special dobbs was until we seen jg play for the last 4 years
I knew how special Dobbs was. Favorite UT player, favorite team since Casey. And probably my favorite team in my lifetime, perhaps even with the ‘98 natty team. “If you’re gonna lose, at least give us a story! At least entertain us, and make us FEEL Something!” And this team delivered on that.

Big Vol fan here, but if DeBord and Jones call one more uncreative Hurd handoff up the middle for a 1 yard gain I'm going to lose my mind. This is the worst play I have seen in 3 years of the Dobbs era. Our O line isn't powerful, and there is no creativity. The linebackers tee off on either Dobbs or Hurd when running this play. It makes it wayy too easy for the D. They no longer have to stall and wait for who has the ball like in the past. We didn't run this garbage 2 years ago. We ran a third option, Von Pierson sweep, Hurd handoff, or Dobbs run. (Sometimes a pass option) These were the options on the play and the D had to watch for each. Now its just handoff to Hurd, or pull it and run. Its bad and predictable. This play worked for more than 2 yards around 20% of the time this game. Why run it? Its soo bad. Example play 2:09:52 We don't overpower people, we trick and outrun. We need to get Byrd sweeping and toss some to him.

I don't care what the scheme is but running up thr middle, with out line, into a 9 man defensive box without any sort fullback is suicide. The statistics show it. It's a simple concept. This is a completely viable strategy if you have a powerful offensive line and aren't facing Florida's semi pro D line.
Verne favored Georgia (very evident in his cast of 2016 TN vs. GA--he wouldn't get nearly as excited on big plays for TN as he did GA, especially the hail Mary), and he also constantly gets crap wrong and has no idea what he's talking about. Gary lacks technical knowledge of the game and is just generally anti-Tennessee. They're just annoying in my opinion.
i hope our o line is in the weight room this offseason.we got good skill players we just got to block . Jennings,bird,and kelly should be our stars this upcoming season on offense. todd Kelly needs to get faster if he wants to be our next great safety
I don't think Georgia is going to regret that. He wins the easy games, but he will lose the big ones. It is why they got rid of him, he is a great coach, but not elite.

Then UT tried to score a TD ON the final play,and almost did. After all the times SPURRIER Unnecessarily ran up the score on Vols, This was retribution
The rule used to be that if the ball hit the ground on a punt, a call for a fair catch was nullified and you could pick it up on the bounce and run. When did that change?
