Fast City Flow! - Inline Skating City Flow Skate

  • One of my favorite inline skating sessions recently. Perfect day for a city flow skate and I was fortunate to be able to take advantage of the unseasonably warm weather. My city flows are usually high energy and high speed, but this one also felt particularly fluid. It was one of those days when it didn't take long to get warmed up and into the groove, and it never stopped. I was in my flow state most of the session and was able to just keep moving. A reminder of how lucky I am to have an able body and great scenery so I can get out and enjoy the fresh air the best way I know how.
    MY SETUP:

    Frames: Endless 100 (4x100mm)

    The amount of control and balance these skaters have is mind-boggling.

    • @meself349
      @meself349 Год назад +4

      It's a learned skill. They put in the hours to develop it. Just training a different part of your brain and different sets of muscles than you would use for ordinary walking,. But there's nothing 'magical' about it. You put in the hours, deal with the soreness and muscle/joint pain, take your falls... sometimes bad ones and hopefully you weren't an idiot and you are fully padded up and wearing a helmet... and you get back up again and you keep doing it over and over and over. Effort. Determination. Some f*cked up types will even laugh at you when you're learning and maybe even when you fall. I had a guy one-time even say to me "I hope you fall". And worse. I've had people stepping right in front me to try to make me fall and stick out their foot as I went by for the same purpose. People trying to hit me on their bikes. A guy's dog off-leash ran after me and bit me in the back of the leg while the guy laughed. Yeah. Sometimes you feel like you're running a gauntlet or going into battle. Some of that depends on where you skate but it certainly can happen. But the people who get better at it are the ones who were willing to endure all of that. Because they had no choice. It's a drug and some of us are addicted to it.

      Wow, such kind words, thank you! I honestly spent months practicing and honing my skills and stopping techniques before I decided to take on the city. Gotta stay safe out there! But yes, once you're comfortable, the city turns into a massive playground. Like flying at ground level. Happy skating!

    Congratulations, you made my day more beautiful by watching the video!
    You reminded me of my childhood when the first thing I did when I woke up in the morning was to go out with my rollerblades on the streets around town. Unfortunately, at the age of 16, I broke my hand quite badly and gave up, but I still miss the feeling of freedom that rollerblading offers. Now, at 34 years old, I am thinking very seriously of taking the rollers out of storage. Congratulations again and greetings from Romania 🇷🇴

      Really appreciate that, thank you. I do my best to not act like the city belongs to me. Many people ask why the city looks empty in my videos and it’s because I avoid people. It lets me skate more freely and safely as I do not like skating in crowded areas. I try to mitigate as much risk as possible to myself and others. Ultimately I have a much better time when I can skate freely and safely. There’s a lot of footage I get that doesn’t make it into videos because I need to stop or slowdown because of people or traffic.

      I love hearing this! I’m here because I was inspired by Bill Stoppard’s channel. It was Bill’s channel that made me leave the hockey rink and start urban skating and now here I am. One of the reasons I started the channel is that there simply isn’t enough skating content out there! Skating is too cool to not be seen by more people. I’m trying to take that inspiration I get from Bill and others and pay it forward. Post your skates and spread the love ❤️

      The 4x100's seem like a great balance of speed and maneuverability. Do you plan your city routes or just wing it?

    • @rerollinginline
      @rerollinginline  3 года назад +1

      Yes “fun” is the perfect word for it. It reminds you that life’s about the little things. The biggest smile on my face was right after that. Partially because it’s actually fun and partially because there were people there and I was thinking to myself “I’m a grown man rollerblading under parking gate arms with a camera on a stick and probably look ridiculous. This is great”

    • @rerollinginline
      @rerollinginline  3 года назад +1

      4x100 rockered has proven to be a great city ripping setup. Although, 4x90 rockered is also great.
      I just wing it. I don’t live in the city so I just park somewhere and explore. I’m becoming more familiar with the areas, buts very much dictated by moment-to-moment feeling. I guess I kinda treat the city like a giant skatepark and just do whatever feels fun at the moment.

    I just bought rollerblades 2 days ago. It has been like 20 years since I did inline skating. I am over 40 years old. I bought a skateboard, cruiser and longboard a few months ago and have been enjoying it so much that I needed to get rollerblades in my collection. I bike a ton too (hybrid, road and mountain). Inline skating looks like a great full body workout so it is really interesting me. I think I'm gonna skate to my gym when I get better. It is 1.8 miles away. I longboard there.

      Lol, I honestly don't know. Philly is the only major city I've skated. I'd assume it can vary quite a bit. I was honestly surprised at how many good surfaces Philly has to skate. I thought it would be all torn up, being one of the older cities in the country. But it looks like they've kept it up well with pretty decent roads. I'd love to try some other cities in the Northeast/Mid Atlantic. Maybe one day.

    Which wheel brand do you recommend in buying for urban skating?

    • @rerollinginline
      @rerollinginline  2 года назад

      The 2 wheels I’ve been mostly using are Rollerblade Hydrogen (85A hardness) and Undercover Team Blank (86A hardness). I think both are great wheels. I would like to try some harder wheels to see what they’re like, but haven’t tried any yet.

    damn so satisfying to watch, very inspiring also. :) do you use lense guards?

    • @rerollinginline
      @rerollinginline  2 года назад

      Thanks a bunch! No, I don’t use lens guards. The ones for my camera (ONE R) are very thick and it ruins the footage. There’s a setting in the software to have the stitch line adapt for lens guards, but it causes a very thick line of missing video. I might try different ones that self adhere like stickers. Just haven’t yet.

    What pads are u using mate i have the 187 pro pads but there bit to bulky keep catching my knee on crossovers

    • @rerollinginline
      @rerollinginline  3 года назад +3

      The knee pads are “Triple 8 Knee Saver”. They’re nice and slim, but they’re not great, if I’m being honest. I’ve had them slide down twice during falls and still get some road rash. I also don’t think the build materials are very quality. It’s a risk I take though. Just know that unfortunately comfort/slimness and protection are inversely related and every pad will be somewhere on the scale between the two.

    Great flow and music, wich size is your foot? Will you pick Endless 90 or 100 is you just can have one?

    • @rerollinginline
      @rerollinginline  3 года назад +1

      Thank you! My feet are 265mm long and these are size EU 40.5 - 41.5. I honestly don’t know which I like better. This is my only pair of boots so I used the 90s for about 5 months, then switched to 100s for another 5 months. Currently (no video yet) I have 5x80 NN Dragons mounted. I want to go back to the 90s to remember what they’re like. It’s not a drastic difference between 90 and 100. At my foot size, either is still longer than my foot. So I’ll have to report back after getting back on the 90s. I might get additional boots so I can have multiple setups without needing to change frames.

    Nice video and ride. How many miles do you drive on one session? Is the 4x100 your absolut prefered setup? Greetings from germany!

    • @rerollinginline
      @rerollinginline  2 года назад

      Thank you! I wish I could skate for hours, but my schedule only usually allows 60-90 mins per session. I probably cover between 10 - 15 miles per session on average.
      I’m currently back on my 4x90 setup and I think I prefer 4x90 for these city skating sessions. I love both honestly, but I feel like more of a ninja on 4x90.

    Hey fellow Philadelphian!! I skated a decent amount when I was younger and I want to get back into it! Any advice/pointers on what skates/where to buy all the gear?

    • @rerollinginline
      @rerollinginline  3 года назад

      Hey, thanks for stopping by and watching! First step is finding out what kind of skating you want to do. If you want to do what I'm doing here, then you want an "urban/freeride/free skate" that is a "hard shell boot with removable liner". They're built to take abuse and provide good ankle support. Next important thing is knowing what size you are. You need to accurately measure your feet in cm/mm. Here's a good video about it: ruclips.net/video/c4_aN-I8afI/видео.html. If you want to do aggressive skating (grinding rails, doing skatepark stuff etc) you'll need "aggressive" skates.
      And as far as purchasing, there's unfortunately nothing remotely close to Philly for brick-and-mortar. There are hardly any shops in the country, so you'll have to go online. InlineWarehouse.com has great prices, selection and return policies. It's where I got my skates (FR1 Deluxe Intuition) and I had returned several things with them. Their customer service is good as well.
      I'm back after 22 years and couldn't be having more fun. It's been amazing for my physical and mental health. Wish I never stopped. Best of luck!
