    I just wanted to share a little tip that I do for myself. I tuck in a piece of paper inside my jar of dry items against the glass with what is inside and the date of canning or vacuum sealing in case an outer tag fades or falls off. I also add directions inside my vacuum sealed items such as pre mixed dry ingredients for cake, biscuits, stuffing, etc.

      It just helps remove any last humidity from the powder before storing - helps with clumping, and it is a version of conditioning.

That's how I really use my powders. But I'll think about doing something. Thanks for the suggestion. BTW..ideas are always on the blog posts.

    I dehydrated a very large amount of mixed veggies. I wasn’t using those veggies I dehydrated so I made veggie powder. I have a 1/2 gallon of veggie powder. Would like some recipes on how to use the powders . I also used frozen mixed veggies. I also made carrot powder, onion powder, mushroom powder, and green pepper powder mixed with red peppers. I made my own chili powders with dried mex peppers. I added anticaking packs to the mushroom powders and onion powders.
    One recipe I use my veggie powder for is Hamburger steak. I add a tsp. To my pattie, with some onion and garlic powders. But I need more recipes.

    • @ThePurposefulPantry
      @ThePurposefulPantry  3 года назад

      I have no recipes to use it. Just use it. A tablespoon or two into meatloaf, into soup, make it a soup base (veg powder, hot water, spices, etc.). I put it in every savory dish I make, and in some not so savory (like pancakes and waffles, etc.)
      There is no magic to this - just add it to anything you're already doing. Pasta, bread, etc.

    • @incanada83
      @incanada83 2 года назад +1

      Dizzie Chef, if I may add some suggestions: dehydrated bananas, strawberry, blackberry/wild blueberry/rhubarb, or other non sticky fruits are good added in batter/pancakes/waffle/French toast/puddings/cakes/pies/muffins/desserts. In any mixture that is being cooked or baked.
      Powdered vegetables: add to breadcrumbs/fillings that have to be cooked or baked.
      Sprinkle directly over hot cooked pasta/mashed potatoes: tomato powder, garlic powder, bell peppers, onion powder.
      Or: add powder while baking potatoes to fillings/scallop potatoes/ cabbage rolls.
      Powdered cauliflower/broccoli/carrots and many more, are tasty in meatballs/meatloaf/etc.
      For fresh salads you can use dehydrated and powdered cucumbers, lettuce, bell peppers, parsley, celery and many herbs.
      The main thing to remember is that some vegetables will stay and taste gritty when used in un-cooked/baked dishes while others will be fine using right after being powdered.
      Dehydrated, powdered dill pickles for example makes tasty dip when mixed with yogurt or sprinkled on home made popcorn.
      Many powders are great mixed with cream cheese to use as a spread for breads/toasts/English muffins or crackers.
      People have different tastes and all you could do, is to make small amounts of whatever, and try yourself 🙂
      In my kitchen for example, nothing gets wasted (meats get into freezer and used later on as fillings for croquets/chicken breasts/perogies/mushroom caps etc.
      Leftover (fresh) salads/cabbage/cucumbers/lettuce and any mixed vegetables ends up in dehydrator as long as there is no dressing on it, or meat, and re-used in one way or another, and not necessarily in powdered state.
      Many, I just vacuum seal in a glass jars no absorbers added as many powdered fruits/vegetables will cake up. It's best to powder small amounts you'd use in a month. It works for me without any issues and maybe...it might work for you too?
      Have fun, as the sky is the limit 🙂

    Darcy, I dehydrated frozen kale and then ground it with my Nutribullet into powder and kept it in a plastic bag and then put it in a jar and have been conditioning it for over week now. I didn't know I had to put it back in the dehydrator. Right now the kale is in a jar with a silica bag. Should I toss it?

      No, you don't. You're fine. Putting it back into the dehydrator helps ensure, but if you're fine.

    Can vegetable powder be used as a broth? My friend is vegan and instead of making the slurry then dehydrating it (or buying vegetable bouillon) I’d like to use vegetable powder from my pantry for a vegetable soup mix for her. Thank you!

      @ThePurposefulPantry  Год назад

      It does - but it doesn't dissolve, you'll have some fiber behind, which shouldn't matter for most things.

    Newbie here. Was wondering if it would work well to take veggie powder and mix with a little flour and use to dredge chicken etc. Or use like a Mrs. Dash on roasted chicken

    Can we eat this directly like chips or add to rice as sprinkles?

    • @ThePurposefulPantry
      @ThePurposefulPantry  2 года назад

      No- they are too hard. And they will need to be rehydrated and cooked.

      @@ThePurposefulPantry thank you for your answer ☺️ i tried with carrots stored at 50 oC for 8 hours, and then i put them in oven 100 oC for 3 mins, it turned out to be crunchy not hard, so i thought i can eat them directly

    Can I use this as vegetable stock powder?

    • @ThePurposefulPantry
      @ThePurposefulPantry  2 года назад

      Yes you can, but it doesn't dissolve because it's the fiber left over. So if you want to sip only stock, you'll have gritty bits. If you are using it as a base for another dish, you'll never notice it. You are infusing those leftover vitamins and flavor back into water, so it's not quite as strong as straight stock, so use a little more powder to adjust the flavor as you want.

    I made pea powder and I was wondering is there a special way to rehydrate them for a simple creamy soup?

    • @ThePurposefulPantry
      @ThePurposefulPantry  2 года назад +1

      Mix it with as much liquid as you want your soup to be - including spices, creams, etc. So think in terms of 1 TB powder being approximately equal to 1 C fresh- how much fresh would you use to make soup - and go from there.

    I new at this dehydrating, how do you know which veggies or fruit to put into powders, or powders that are not very fine.

    • @ThePurposefulPantry
      @ThePurposefulPantry  3 года назад

      I powder almost everything, and use a NutriNinja (bullet blender) to get everything that way. Almost all vegetables can be powdered and most fruit as long as you dry them very well.

    I just ground up some of my dried mixed veggies, potatoes and onions into a mix. In dehydrator now. My question is, can this be used in dips or add seasonings for something like Knorr veggie mixes?
    I love your videos and the wonderful knowledge you’re sharing with us😃

      Absolutely! I just did a post on doing a French Onion Dip powder that is fab - and any version of what you are talking about would work! play with your food and see what you think about it - and then try it again. Just remember, that those mixes usually have a lot of sodium, so you'll have to take that into consideration when taste testing and adjust accordingly for you.

      Mix it with water until you get the consistency you want. Allow it time to absorb.
