Mike is exactly right. The main Yankee problem is ownership and the front office. Not a huge Boone fan but you could have Torre or any other great manager right now and the Yankees are still gonna stink.
If there is one thing I've learned in 45+ years of watching sports, it's this: There are good, strong, well-run organizations, and there are badly run ones. The former are successful over the long run, consistently in contention, make good player personnel decisions, have good coaching that develops talent and provide a professional environment, with leadership from the top down. The Yankees might have been in that category in the past, but they don't seem to be nowadays.

Man Mike is like a professor, so much baseball history and I love how he incorporated into this. I’m not a Yankees fan but I really enjoy Mike shows. I’m 45 and he comes off as a classic show and I love classic shows because they made art, and Mike is a great artist
I was glad to hear Mike say he's not an Oswaldo Cabrera fan because neither am I. That Boone's only options for that final out would've been him or Rortvedt if he had pinch run a pitcher is a testament not only to Boone's incompetence but primarily to Cashman's incompetence.
We must be right about the same age (I’m 66). I recall all the players you mentioned…including Jerry Kenney. Felt like I was listening to myself. I remember how thrilling it was to see Chambliss hit that big home run against the Royals in 76. ..our first taste of victory. Very disappointed with our performance in the World Series…the Reds were a great team. In 77, I still cannot believe what Jackson did in the deciding game…three swings, three home runs.
"Hey Mike. In my opinion it's time for the Yankees to bring up that kid Artie Lang from the minors to lead this team. What do you think? I'll hang up and listen."
They had better, winning teams (above .500) most of those years though. No World Series winners, but there were a few post season appearances. It wasn't until 89 through 92 or so that they were really terrible.
This perspective is coming from a 65 year old, and for most of those years, as a Baltimore Orioles fan…. The present day Yankees reminds me of the 1998, 1999, 2000, etc, etc… Orioles.. My earliest memory of baseball was 1966 and the Orioles 4 game sweep of the Dodgers… A memory I’d love to forget is 1969’s “Amazin’ Mets…. Making the games less accessible to fans when the team has gotten worse might not work out so well long term. From watching five world series winners and seven pennant winners on free tv in the ALCS and WS to having to pay insane cable fees and for multiple streaming services for this team...no thanks.

Yessir. I have been a Yankee fan for 65 years. I grew up in Chicago and spent 46 years in Denver before I retired. The people in Denver were so happy to have an MLB team, me included, but they didn't care about winning. Just sit in the Denver sun eating expensive but not very good food. The owners took note, and they sell off really great players, like DJ, after their best years are behind them. Might have one or two years left and they use teams like the Yankees to bail them out. The Rockies are to be monetized. That's it. Coors Field packed every game. I don't know what to say. It's really difficult to not go out and see your team but I live 200 miles from Denver now. It would cost me thousands to drive up to see a series, food, lodging. Way better to watch on TV. I've lived long enough to have seen the Yankees go from the top to the bottom a couple of times but this seems different. This Hal guy is a money-grubbing punk.@@weedman4206
Its so insane. Any MLB fan knows the Yankees have been dogshit for nearly 25 years. A full quater century. The 1990s were eternity ago. People we are heading into 2024. 1 World Series in the last 25 years. The Dallas Cowboys of Baseball. No more. No less. 😂
Pags. Rags. Donnie. Big Dave. Willie. Guidry in his twilight. Sweet Lou. RICKEY. The Stadium. The 80's were my era, and I loved it even though they were dismal.
And judge is a big kid and shouldn’t be a captain. People hit a meaningless home run and they jump around and smile in the dugout like kids in a sandlot. I gotta go back and watch 96 yanks every once in a while to realize how lucky I was to watch that dynasty
How does a Yankees fan change a light blub? ....... ............................................................. He doesn't, He just talks about how good the old one was.
Just curious how many Yankee haters who have never watched the Yankee podcasts are now watching them just to enjoy their misery. If you fall in that category, like myself, please comment. I am an Oriole fan who is in true ecstasy this year, especially after all the abuse we endured by Yankee fans during our recent misery years. Karma has finally hit and I couldn't be more pleased.
My Astros have eliminated The Yankees from the playoffs more than any other team in mlb history and we’ve only been in the AL for 10 years or so and stunk up the joint for the first few years. It’s my all time favorite baseball stat. I love it. Btw The Astros v Orioles series was a great one. I enjoyed watching your team play. Good luck in the playoffs…
@@AntiWarTexanYea, Altuve killed us in that series. Would be a great series if we meet in the playoffs. I think you will be hearing from the Orioles for a while. We do need a new owner willing to spend, however, or we will lose our nucleus when contracts come up in a few years for our key young players.
Mariners fan here! As much as I enjoy watching the Yankees spiral into irrelevance (and boy, do I enjoy it!), this current lineup is giving me ugly flashbacks of M's lineups from the early 2010's; waaaaay too many 1B/DH types, too much swinging for the fences to be sustainable. Best of luck fixing this; could take more than one off-season...
Everyone talks about how bad they are, and should Aaron Boone be fired. I live in Chicago and am a lifelong White Sox fan; but I do follow the Yankees. The reason why the Yankees are so bad can be answered in two words: Brian Cashman. The only question I have is, why hasn't he been fired?
You Yankee fans are so spoiled and entitled. “They are the Yankees” Give me a break. Let some other teams get the spotlight. Its time for the Yankees to be in the basement
the yankees havent won a world series in 15 years now there gonna miss the playoffs for the next 5 years im sorry but a franchinse that has 27 championships thats uncalled for name me a winning franchinse that goes into a drought that long
These Yanks have been choking since Girardi got fired. I think that still resonates with Judge. Boone is no mentor, he's a guy who made the worst decision as a player and wound up out of the majors. Cashman paid his contract, which was nothing more than welfare because he decided to play a pickup basketball game and broke his leg and that violated a very specific clause in his contract. If the Boss wasn't sick Brian would not have been allowed to do that. But someone who makes bad life decisions should never have been given the helm of a team that is meant to win. There is young talent here that needs a veteran champion to mentor them, and they simply do not have it. Moreover, we've had better teams that would have performed better if they had true leadership and mentoring in that dugout, but they fizzled out under the leadership of current management. That falls on the GM, so you now need to clean house in the front office and dugout. There's no other way because you've already exhausted every option with the current team of management. They've had the resources, the GM has had the autonomy to make deals, and while everything there is a consensus, the GM is still responsible for saving you from yourself if nothing else. So even if I defend Cashman for not making all these bad decisions himself, he's still responsible for the culture of management, and player development.
Trout has about a 170 OPS+ for his career. Pre juice Bonds was 165 😂 And he is facing better pitching than anyone in past eras ....fastballs avg 94 mph and he sees a ton of sliders.
The problem with both NY teams is the coaching. The dodgers and Braves consistently either bring up young stars or make veterans better players. Our teams have no idea how to develop anything.
The Yankees havent had a truly terrible a team in at least 30 years...which is really weird to see. I'm old enough to recall the Dallas Green-Stump Merrill teams. Many of their fans have never seen anything like this before this.
I’ve been following Yankees since 1989 when they were really bad, they need to be bad again for a few years in order to reset the front office is stubborn like Mike said they refuse to think anything is wrong. They are blaming injuries.
The Yankees, just like other major sports brand, have reached a point to where it needs tore down and rebuilt. How it's done and how the Yankees fans will take it is above my pay grade. Just my thought
They should send Rortvedt and Bauers to triple A, and bring up Wells and Florial. But they won't, because they will never admit they were wrong with these journeymen scrubs
They won’t bring up the rookies until a certain date in august, so the team can keep them for an extra year before they can become a free agent. They won’t admit that.
Was born in 1971. Barely recall 1977-78/ Like you I grew up in a bad decade for the Yankees, the 80's. yet many of those mid 80's teams would have won a @WC had MLB been set up that way. Factoring in expectations this is the worst Yankees team I've ever seen. I remember Stump.
I believe it’s time to make make a fundamental change. How about this: hire Jeter as the head of baseball operations, let him pick a new GM…let the new GM pick a new manager. Jeter now has some experience running a team, I believe he can handle the job. Come on Hal, do something.
I beg your pardon, but my suggestion was based on three aspects: 1) Unfortunately, Hal is not going anywhere, he might buy the suggestion because of Jeter's notoriety; 2) Jeter has experience running a ballclub; 3) Something dramatic needs to happen, most of the front office staff have been there for decades, they have created a dysfunctional environment... Clorox needs to be applied to remove all of the waste. @@weedman4206
the only positive from this year might be that they get rid of Boone, and Cashman on the hot seat to point where he gets fired after another mediocre year. but the Yankees have gotten so pathetic and scared of any change (Hal is the anti-George) that everyone probably stays and they throw out the injury/bad luck excuses
IF? If it's not the toe it'll be something else. Him and Stanton's contract will ruin this club for the next decade. BTW they're like 6-17 since he's been back.

40,000 people showed up to see the comedy on Sunday - who the F would pay to see that. Boycott the rest of the season !!
Official attendance: 43,946. Maybe they were all taking a piss. Hal doesn't care if you "no show". At $77 average ticket price Hal made $3, 383, 842 bucks whether they were in their seats or not. Cha-ching! He's a happy guy!!
that's a part of the problem. the fans will show up to the games. these owners of these teams don't care about wins & losses the way fans do. they're not that invested in wins & losses, they're infinitely more interested in revenue.
@@thekingofbohemia1 he's living off the brand his Daddy created. George woulda had a stroke if he saw this mess.
Go Cubs. Good team, not elite but they play for each other, beautiful ballpark, and incomparable fans.
Yankees might as well start thinking about 2024, because they blew 2023 big time, Pitching/Hitting have failed them miserably !!
Yankees players have completely quit on Baboone
Aaron Buffoone
GM Brian Trashman is the main culprit for this grease-fire of a team
This is the best thing that could happen for them to realize how bad huge changes are needed!!! Clean house and rebuild!!
Just bring the kids up and let's see what they can do we're not making the playoffs
yankees wont make the playoffs for the next 5 years you fans will have nothing to look forward too anymore new york sports suck
How does a Yankees fan change a light blub? .......
.............................................................
He doesn't, He just talks about how good the old one was.
Hi
From
ATL 🔥😂
@@AntiWarTexanyour Astros did jack till 2015. Yankees live rent free in your head and that’s why I love the Yankees.
F the Yankees!! 😂
Hey Mike do you think Yanks should fire Boone and replace him with Giambi before the season ends?
Everyone talks about how bad they are, and should Aaron Boone be fired. I live in Chicago and am a lifelong White Sox fan; but I do follow the Yankees. The reason why the Yankees are so bad can be answered in two words: Brian Cashman. The only question I have is, why hasn't he been fired?
Bravo!
This is the worst since 1966 and beyond
All jokes aside, this Yankee team could really use a left-handed power hitter, like Jason Giambi.
Yes, Giambi would be an intriguing selection
Get ‘em Mike!!!! Numbah one!
It's the curse of Pumpsie Green at work here.
Maybe they need to show them tape of the last time the Red Sox broke out of an 8 game losing streak 🤷♂️
Lol
Yanks play like they represent Starr Insurance instead of NY. Get rid of the Starr patch.
Please don't buy tickets & merchandise. We work to hard to throw are money away on lazy management..
You Yankee fans are so spoiled and entitled. “They are the Yankees” Give me a break. Let some other teams get the spotlight. Its time for the Yankees to be in the basement
the yankees havent won a world series in 15 years now there gonna miss the playoffs for the next 5 years im sorry but a franchinse that has 27 championships thats uncalled for name me a winning franchinse that goes into a drought that long
So they should fold the franchise for other teams? Stop it.
@@adriankendrick4281yankee fans need to learn humility and how to lose. Its ok to lose, you will get em next year
Hey Mike. First time, long time….What do you think about the current state of women’s soccer in the US? I’ll hang up and listen.
Not if Cashman and Boone are still around.
We're All waiting for Boone to say -
"Playoffs❓PLAYOFFS⁉️"
Trout has about a 170 OPS+ for his career. Pre juice Bonds was 165
😂
And he is facing better pitching than anyone in past eras ....fastballs avg 94 mph and he sees a ton of sliders.
Yanks died with George Steinbrenner RIP
If anything you understated it, you could've paid me a whole hell of a lot less to pull my pants down on the field and invite all comers.
He should've had one of the pitchers pinch hit. What did they have to lose?????
Telling it like it is Mike. Bad players make for a bad team. A bad manager and a bad general manager make for a bad organization.
The Pope Mike is the 🐐 #Goat

Truer words never spoken. Extremely stubborn with their 'ways' despite not accomplishing much. The deserve every misery.
The problem with both NY teams is the coaching. The dodgers and Braves consistently either bring up young stars or make veterans better players. Our teams have no idea how to develop anything.
Replace "Yankees" with "Mets" and I've heard this Mike rant before. As a Mets fan though, it is oddly satisfying.
Mark my Word. Judge is another bad Contract. He will brake down and always Hurt.
The Yankees havent had a truly terrible a team in at least 30 years...which is really weird to see. I'm old enough to recall the Dallas Green-Stump Merrill teams. Many of their fans have never seen anything like this before this.
It's really across the board, even the so called good teams Suck.. Baseball is lamer then hell nowadays
The Braves and the Dodgers don't suck.
@@sethstine4698 The Dodgers, Lol, The Braves, lol again and again I guess Duke..
I’ve been following Yankees since 1989 when they were really bad, they need to be bad again for a few years in order to reset the front office is stubborn like Mike said they refuse to think anything is wrong. They are blaming injuries.
Hey Mike if you don't name the players who don't belong on the team then I will. Jake bourers mckinney Rortvetd lemahieu should not be on the team.
#jomboy cursed the #yankees and #mets with his slander of #josealtuve
Get used to it. Cashman has a job for life. Hal considers him family. Get used to it.
The Yankees, just like other major sports brand, have reached a point to where it needs tore down and rebuilt. How it's done and how the Yankees fans will take it is above my pay grade. Just my thought
Hey Mike. First time, long time….What do you think about the current state of women’s soccer in the US? I’ll hang up and listen.
Yuk! Yuk! Yuk!
Why is Wells not up?
Welcome to 1966 gotta get rid of the old guys what's Cole trade value start the rebuild
Everyone was watching the Yankees last year to see Judge a HR record, Im watching the Yankees this season to watch them break a loss record 🤣🤣
They won’t break any loss records. How many games will they lose?
Well, the Bronx Bombers certainly bombed this year. They are awful.
They're going to turn things around and make the playoffs.
there 9 games out of the 3rd wildcard think agian
Bring back jake Bauers Trevino rizzo and volpe next year and yankees will win 100 games next year. No biggie
Another great podcast. However, Francesa, PLEASE talk into the microphone. At least a third of this recording sounds like your mumbling.
Don't normally agree with Mike but yeah moral victories now with the Yankees. It's just awful now.
Who built the dynasty of the 90s it was Gene Michael and Bob Watson, not Brian Cashman
Hey mike ! 👋. Giambi. NeXT manager. What ya think ? Ill hang up and listen 📞
Uhh...let's be honest..
You crapped on Justin Turner when he was a Met.
New York Yankees 👎
when was the last good move cashman made? same goes for spike at wfan what a lineup mike and maddog spinning in there ?
I' m thinking, I' m thinking!

I believe it’s time to make make a fundamental change. How about this: hire Jeter as the head of baseball operations, let him pick a new GM…let the new GM pick a new manager. Jeter now has some experience running a team, I believe he can handle the job. Come on Hal, do something.
IDK why some of you fans of these sports teams always think that some former superstar of your team will automatically be this great coach or GM....
I am hoping Johnny Loaisiga can be the next closer
the only positive from this year might be that they get rid of Boone, and Cashman on the hot seat to point where he gets fired after another mediocre year. but the Yankees have gotten so pathetic and scared of any change (Hal is the anti-George) that everyone probably stays and they throw out the injury/bad luck excuses
Its terrifying to think of the Yankees future if Judge is hurt long term.
They will be in 4th place instead of last. Also don’t count on Judge being healthy. A truly idiotic contract.
Judge is overrated and gets hurt frequently. About as soft as Degrom.
IF? If it's not the toe it'll be something else. Him and Stanton's contract will ruin this club for the next decade. BTW they're like 6-17 since he's been back.
Can't rely on Judge to carry this team into the future.
i was totally against signing judge for beyound 5 years....one bat ..right handed....that will miss 40 games a year...is not the way to put together a team...
