- Nick and Dan go through the Giants' 28-10 preseason loss against the Texans where we received about a half of play from the Giants' first team. Daniel Jones, Malik Nabers, Elijah Chatman, and a capable offensive lines are all topics of conversation from the duo, plus much more.
Thank You for not being like every other giants podcast / news outlet that acts like every bad thing that happens within practice / pre season / a game is the end of the world.. this fan base needs more of that.
@Memphis....agree 💯. I'm wondering if you were watching the same podcast. I told this guy what I felt and ended my sub.
Thank you and thank you for your support with likes/subscribe- Dan
Agreed
I mean it’s been bad for over a decade so those content creators have gotten it right
Thank you, Memphis. 😊 Nice to read Giant fans cutting players some slack during preseason.
I can’t believe all these Jones haters who made such a big deal over his first pass, almost intercepted. Hello people…the guy is just coming back from a serious knee injury and is probably apprehensive and all geeked up with adrenaline….give him some time to calm down, focus, and let the play develop. Sure, the first quarter had another horrible moment with the pic6, but I bet he never does that again. I honestly can’t fully blame him for the 2nd pic. Stingley is a great CB and made a great play. Sure, the pass could have been a wee bit further, but he just wasn’t perfect that time. As the game progressed I noticed he got better and better. In fact, I wonder how his performance would have turned out had Nabers not dropped that 3rd and 6 long pass on our opening drive? It could have done wonders for his confidence and his self esteem. 3 and out was a bummer. I,do think DJ and the entire offense need more practice to get on the same page. After all, we are playing with many new faces.
Impressed with Jones's ability to push the ball downfield.
On the money to Slayton and Nabers - both were on pace for 100+ yard games.
Got a feeling this season is going to be different.
saluts n respx 2 Dan n Nick, greetings from our entire rugby club n Italy, great vid as always….🤙🏻🇮🇹
Great analysis as always!! So pumped to see a competent O-line!!
Great analysis!
I will pay to watch Chapman take on Daboll in the 40. That Chapman RB run down was insane. Great analysis as usual guys.
Chatman would toast skinny-Dabs in a 40
After listening to you guys I feel a lot better. We've seen plenty of bad football I am ready for a change!
Another good show boys! Just the hope of a competent o-line means the offense has hope. No matter the QB or what offense Daboll schemes they have to come through. Can't put on rose colored glasses after all these years of failing but Briccillo may be the answer.
Great analysis by you two guys! Focusing on the detail & overall offensive strengths, instead of just focusing on that harebrained panic throw that Dj made. He actually had some time to process. Thank you Carm!
Good show guys! Thanks for that.
Thank you!
Thanks again guys for the most insightful and mature view of the NYFG.
Chatman was fast but he took a perfect angle- which shows his good instincts
I listen on Spotify, but came to drop a like for my guys! Love the content as always
Thank you for doing so! - Dan
Big Blue Banter I appreciate your perspective and analysis. The O line gives us a chance to be respectable.
Deep passes are like the 3 point shot you don't have to be as efficient to be equal and they open up other plays underneath, including the running game
Jones has always been slow to process and has poor footwork. I don’t see that changing
Anyone here attending Fan Fest September 6th??? Just grabbed my tickets.
Finally a pod that can see the bigger picture w the offense opening up rather than focusing on the picks. We can’t have both no picks and deep bombs lol Great video
What about on time throws & better ball placement. Or is that too much to ask for a 40 mil starting QB.
Thanks!
@@cooldude7821 40 mill is bottom 3rd in qb salary. We finally can protect him so chill
@@achilles8936 DJ's problem is from the neck up. He panics under pressure. Always has, always will. Surrounding him with more talent isn't gonna change that. He was shaking like a stripper on stage in the end zone & it's only the preseason. Put a fork in that dude. He's done.
Exactly…we want Jones to make the big throws so the risk is the interception…can’t have it both ways. My issue is how he is not sliding well and more importantly his slow processing that continues…defenses can see that. Can THAT be corrected?
When is Nick going to embrace his villain era and ascend into his final form? He has the mustache. It’s time to unleash the widows peak! 😈
Gitt, the widow's peak? Had that my entire childhood, think I'm good.
Biggest takeaway was that he had TIME. That's all I wanted to see. Confidence in his line and now he can rip it.
Is he gonna rip it to his teammates or to the defenders.
@@cooldude7821 Both. As long as he rips it. Got dang cannon.
@@BrettM765 BB-gun.
@@cooldude7821 Then Hurts has a paper airplane with a piece of chalk.

I honestly think the giants will have a dominant run game with big passing plays on the outside which will allow DJ to be slow slightly above average but our offense be effective
Curtis McGriff 1980 Jim Burt 1981 Jerome Salley 1982 all made it as undrafted rookies with the GIants and were really good players.
You have it right. The Giants should just go long on every play just like they do on every other team in the NFL. You’ve figured it all out.
And to do that you need a decent line. Not the 30 th ranked line
Thanks, I'm glad you see it that way, Donna.
Brian burns is a beast holy shit I didn’t notice these moves during the game but damn on film 🔥🔥
Great breakdown
Thank you!
Please support and like Dan and Nick....Big Blue Banner. They are the best. Trust me I had to unsbcribe from one Giant contenter cause he went off the rails negatively about the Giant. A ver bad listen. Dan and Nick are very rational and have a very high IQ about our team and the NFL in general.
Banter, not Banner, but close enough 😆
Thank you Bruce! Really appreciate the support - Dan
@bigbluebanter1108 your very welcome! Sorry for all the mis-types. Obviously, I can not multi task.
Daniel jones will be comeback player of the year and in the running for mvp. Mark my words
how are we feeling?
That was an outrageous push off that Banks could have made a play because while he didn’t turn hurt head well when he’s facing the play he breaks on the ball well
I’ve been waiting for this
Stay positive unlike other utube pages! Gloom & doom everyday
Training wheels? Dime Store Danny crashed his Big Wheel!
Dime Store Danny reads defenses about as well as Stevie Wonder.
Let’s acknowledge that on that Nabers back shoulder… no one is open including Nabers. Every year up until now this play ends up sack, incomplete, pick, qb rush.
I bet the Giants will be in on a quality CB in a trade or cut.
WELCOME BACK IT'S THE BIG BLUE BANTER ANd As Promised......
Let's go GMEN!!!
I might have smoked to much weed, and forgot if you guys are doing this this yr but you guys should do a gambling pod. Need more to help me get three the work day thanks guys
Appreciate the interest, but any time we've tried those other ideas they haven't performed that well. We try to stick to the Giants for that reason. - Dan
7:57 Probably both Vikings games from the playoff year (2022). He was throwing that bih all over the field 😂

Love this podcast. But Nick looks unhappy today. Why?
Someone peed in my cheerios :/
Stop comparing Taylor.Taylor's saving grace in the league is that he is a good deep thrower he's just not consistent overall. And those two Slayton TDs last year were beating two rookies in consecutive games on broken plays.
Beard looks great, Dan
My man! Thanks brother - Dan
"Matriculate the ball down the field?) That's Hank Stram in Super Bowl IV. It sounds good, but that is not the word to use here. Navigate is more appropriate.
Inside joke from the pod -- saying for the same reason
Don’t forget to like ,share, and subscribe guys
Thank you! We really need this and it helps.
fook it, lets go down swinging with DJ this year. Would be hilarious to have a good season with the O-line playing well and DJ bombing it downfield like Kerry Collins. 😆
They are way more upbeat than I am.
Re: d-line; Why are we not playing a good ol’fashion 3-4? Because we don’t have the LB’s? Or Does today’s passing game make it obsolete ?
The Giant base is 3-4
They're in sub-package often. Their base as three down linemen and four "LBs," two of them being EDGEs...but, like most DCs, Bowen wants to get into 3rd & 5+ so he can go WIDE like Jim Schwartz and have his DL pin their ears back from a 4i+ locations.
Dan-Daboll said the opposite. He said Jones was really good at going thru progressions but more often than not guys were running the wrong pattern. He said sometimes two guys ran the wrong pattern Jones would go thru his progressions and hit the guy that was running the right pattern. In '22 he led in accuracy at 81 % (completions and drops)and second in the red zone. with the worst receivers in the league.
Coach speak is one thing, but do you really believe that Daniel Jones has been "really good at going through progressions" as an NFL QB? If so, that's your perogative, but I will respectfully disagree. The entire 2022 offense was designed around moving off his first read and running through the B gap, or moving the pocket on bootlegs to give designed reads, among other things. We did what we could to break this down, but for now we can just respectfully agree to disagree. I also think your 22 stat lacks major context 1. It is a random PFF assessment of "accuracy" but doesn't take into account ball placement and how that maximizes YAC BUT most importantly 2. His average depth of target was among the lowest in the NFL. Obviously you will complete more passes with a low aDOT. But all good either way -- we can agree to disagree respectfully. - Dan
@@bigbluebanter1108 As Daboll and Charlie Weis stated unless you know the exact play call and only the coach knows what it is you have no effin idea what his progressions are.Second QBs who can't go thru his progressions and read defenses don't get contracts like this.Third you cannot be 81% accurate and second in the red zone with arguably or unarguably the worst receivers in the league if you are not reading the defense properly. This is a case of you thinking you know more than you do.Jones in 2022 did more with less than any QB I've seen in 55 years of watching the sport.
@@bigbluebanter1108 Give you another example more specific.Papa asks Daboll about a piece Orlovsky did showing a few receivers wide open that Jones didn't throw to.Daboll shook his head and said "You're just like all these other guys the reason he didn't throw to them was they were running the wrong pattern. At least one of them was Toney but it may have been more than Toney on certain plays. He stated Jones wasn't going to look for a receiver who is not running the play correctly. It may look like he missed them but he was doing the right thing by going thru his progressions and not looking around for a free lancing receiver.Have you guys ever done a piece on receivers running the wrong pattern because you wouldn't know unless you were the coach.Again only the coach knows what is going on during specific plays.I find you are talking about things you don't really know about.
@@beefoneeto If you're going to say things like "I'm thinking I know more than I do" when you're basically just doing the exact same thing but on the other side, I'm going to struggle to continue the conversation. BTW, all of what I have said, Nick has said the same just in a different way. I may be more brute with it, but it's the same idea. IMO, you overlook things and lean on coach speak/GM speak. You have to step back and consider why a coach/GM would ever talk truth to us at this stage of the season? They wouldn't even after that fact (if/when Jones gets cut). It is what it is at this point. We can agree to disagree, respectfully, and move forward.
@@bigbluebanter1108 It's not that.DaBoll addressed that specific question when asked by Bob Papa and explained why that assumption is wrong. Then the QB went out and led the league in accuracy second in the red zone and led the league in deep throw accuracy from 2020-2022.He must be a magician to do this while being bad at going through progressions and having a shitty receiver corps. In 2022 he did more with less than any QB I've watched in 55 years of following the sport..
Hey Dan, do you think Jones accuracy has anything to do with the 30th ranked line?
Even when he has time, he's still inaccurate.
I got the first 'like' in!
It sounds like you're saying we shouldn't be concerned about DJ because Daboll will scheme up a fun offense even though he doesn't seem to have fixed most of his biggest problems?
I don't necessarily share that view. Daboll can certainly scheme of a fun offense, sure, but it's not ideal if the QB doesn't maximize said fun offense. Jones is who he is; not as good as DJ STANS believe, but not as bad as the biggest detractors either. I don't think he's played up to his contract, but he'll receive that opportunity this season with a more stable infrastructure around him.
@@bigbluebanter1108 Not sure we are having the same conversation? the reason some are freaking out about DJ is because he didn't look good at all and doesn't seem to have improved on some of his biggest weaknesses (i.e. not letting DBs drive on his first read).
You didn't really seem to address those concerns in the video. Your answer to DJ looking bad seems to have been "but he threw 4 deep balls and Daboll has a fun offense"
Daboll can scheme up whatever offense he wants but if DJ can't stop letting DBs drive on his first read, and can't just get rid of the ball etc. none of that makes a difference
@@bigbluebanter1108 also DJ didn't throw the INTs/almost INTs on deep balls while trying to be aggressive. He threw them on like 5-10 yard passes
Is Daniel Jones going to be confident in himself read the defenses and make winning plays… The Giants Go as Jones goes, year 6 let’s see what happens
Giant coaches have done in the past and continue now to limit what DJ has to do. I don't expect Mahomes, but I would like to see a Giant QB who didn't need training wheels. We might make the playoffs, but it will be despite DJ. DJ's issues are more likely to be exposed by really good teams, therefore any playoff runs will be short. We need a better QB - the sooner the better.
Hit that like plz

I honestly don’t know what Dan is talking about in a lot of these videos. QBs in the nfl don’t go through progressions? What? Even Nick looks annoyed at that bad take lol
He said a lot of QBs don’t, which is true
@@Twiist585 that’s not true at all. Every QB in the nfl goes through reads. Some of them just do it much faster than others. I get what he’s trying to say, if you see a 1v1 matchup outside take a shot, make that simple. But that’s not what he said
@@slipknottin it is true, there are a lot of one read QBs. Every qb doesn’t go through progressions consistently. They all have the ability to go through reads. A lot of them don’t do it often
@@Twiist585 you and Dan need to get your show where you can both talk about things that don’t exist in real life
Probably should have said a full field read.
In other words Jones is a QB who can’t read defenses so just throw it up. Thats a smart move. Jones can throw 20 interceptions and 15 touchdowns and every things going to work out fine. A review of football one of one would be appreciated.
Is that really what you got out of this? Weird. This shows that DJ will try to anticipate his receivers as possible so no more missing big plays.
Dime Store Danny processes imformation about as quickly as Joe Biden.
If only he was as sharp as Trump.
He is not accurate, he can't read a defense...why is he our qb again...😂😂😂😂
Y’all have more faith than I do.
Finally! I had wondered if anyone else saw the game that I had seen. I was not looking at the box score, and although I was perturbed over the early ints, Jones had some good plays, the O-line looked downright competent, and Nabers looked like...well...Nabers.
Dan, I appreciate the positive words on DJ. I know you have strong doubts about him. Unlike the "Jones Sucks" crowd who look for any negative play to justify their position, you at least pointed out the potential for him to do a solid job running Daboll's offense. Unlike 2022 where Daboll crafted an "emergency" offense to take advantage of Saquon and Jones' running ability, DJ is going to run Daboll's aggressive style or he will surely be gone.
Thanks Bill. Always nice to talk to fans who understand this. I'm not "out to get DJ" .. I think he's a great human being. Hard worker. What I want is a QB who can consistently operate Daboll's preferred system to it's fullest for a long stretch of games. Hoping this iteration is what finally clicks for DJ. - Dan
am i allowed to be this early??
As you guys know, I'm a Daniel Jones Homer, and... The miss down the sideline goes with the territory. Honestly, over his career, that was not his problem. He's been pretty accurate on the sideline throws. There were two things that concerned me: the decision that led to the pick six and the non-slide on his run leading, with back and neck. In a way, the last was my biggest problem. He threw for something like 138 yards during that half. If Hyatt stays in bounds, and Nabor's catches the first one... He'd have been on pace for 400 yards over a full game. We don't know what he was told by the coaching. In a way, in the preseason game, perhaps he was told NOT to throw it away, but to try to make a play over there, in which case the pick six wasn't his fault (though I doubt it). But dude, if that kid doesn't learn how to slide, he's going to get hurt again. It's just a matter of time. We could have a good year this year. And like I promised, if DJ doesn't deliver, FOR ANY REASON, I'm on the quarterback train with you guys at the end of the year. But IF DJ stays healthy, we'll win ten games.
If the pick 6 wasn't his fault, who's fault was it?
This fkn guy is nutz. You don't sound like a DJ homer. You sound like his Dad.
Dan and Nick, it certainly seems the consensus is that Dabolll's offense is new age, smart, and fun like you say. My question though guys is why is it then that receivers never seem to be open? Am I the only one who feels this way? while we critique every throw our QB's make, it should be pointed out that the window is always extremely tight. I know everyone is being as vanilla as possible right now I'm seeing others teams WR's running free with space between them and the DB you never see that same space with our guys. Is there a reason that doesn't possibly include Daboll and his staff, are our receivers just that bad?
I don't believe so, true believer. The offense in PS Wk 2 focused on downfield shots vs. MOFC defenses; there were times when receivers were open, but the determination to throw the 1v1 came before the receiver was open. Timing could certainly be improved on certain routes as well (the Wan'Dale angle).
Also add in the vanilla game planning.
Jones sucks, we need a new QB period
