- The theme for Yuyuko Saigyouji's final spell from Touhou 7: Perfect Cherry Blossom
You asked for it.
I spent an absurd amount of time on this, and it still only came out ok lol ^^;
Obviously only intended to run for a minute, this theme has no breaks. I spliced together part of the main melody with the drums to keep the flow going. I did try to loop it back to some of the earlier parts, but the lack of drums made it sound too abrupt and thrown together.
Anyway, as usual I gave it my best. Although, something tells me you guys only wanted this to complete the playlist, huh.

It is definitely the coolest for me. When we appear to beat all of her spells, we are lead to believe that we beat the game but then she just reappears as a shadow and starts casting all these butterflies while a more powerful version of her theme starts playing.
The coolest moment isn't when Yuyuko resurrected with her final spell, but the moment when you capture the spell and 1cc the game

Yuyuko's theme alone is already one of the most beautifully elegant in the whole series, but then this turns it into a powerfully dramatic crescendo as she revives for one final spellcard.
And I'm pretty sure she's the only one in the whole series who does this. Eirin and Kaguya do something like this too, but it's not like you need to capture their last spells...
Mokou doesn't count either.
Forbidden Arcanum "Hourai Elixir"
If you count the fighting games, Tenshi(SWR) and Suwako(UNL) do this, but for only mainline games yeah.
Ah, I had honestly forgotten about those two since I primarily play only the shoot 'em ups.
I did say in the whole series though, and those two deserve their own mention as well.
I do like Suwako's final spell theme too, after all.

I wish Zun would do it more often since they are very a dramatic climax to any fight. My favourite is Bhava-Agra as seen through a child’s mind, but I do enjoy the rest of them as well since they all are great songs.
One of my coworkers who I found out was a touhou fan. I was eating lunch. She walked up to me and just played this in my ear. I screamed and dropped my lunch. PCB FLASH BACKS INTENSIFIES. She did buy me a new lunch though after. I also got weird looks from other coworkers after that. Edit 2: she told me she found out I was touhou fan cause my wallpaper was Yuyuko and Youmu. She also caught me playing Lost Word on my phone during break.

This always makes me so emotional. It's one of my most vivid memories of Touhou, facing this last trial for the first time and finally beating it. Perhaps when I have the time to practice, I'll finally go back and beat one of these games on a higher difficulty than easy...

ah yes, i remember all the times i struggled through this fight on easy. i couldnt do it. i felt so accomplisjed when i beat it in a full run but i used a continue and got the bad ending. i remember playing it in practise and i failed about 16 times in a row, but i kept trying and finally beat it.
i recently beat it all on easy without any continues, and that was probably one of the happiest times of my life.
the lesson here?
always stay determined at doing what you love. dont get angry if you lose, but instead, try again, and if you cant beat it, take a break and then takebanother shot, because even if youre playing on easy, you can beat it! and its a great accomplishment.

PCB was the first game I played but after going to IN since it’s easier and coming back it’s so difficult for some reason :/. I’m kinda dreading getting to yuyuko tbh.
I still remember my reaction when I first saw Resurrection Butterfly. I was feeling good about defeating Yuyuko and achieving my first 1cc Normal. Then I saw that it isn't over and thought to myself: "Wait there's more!?" Yet, I managed to get through it with one death and one bomb used with a single bomb remaining. It is still one of my favourite moments in my time playing Touhou. I remember saying to myself: "I actually beat a Touhou game!"

cirno's icicle fall is pretty tricky if u dont die enough times. the tip is move to the right (or left if ur left-sided) with shift (just like how u dodge meiling's dazzling color typhoon

Thanks for extending this! A version that lasts longer than almost two minutes without being super repetitive was a brilliant shout.
I certainly wasn't expecting Resurrection Butterfly when I first watched PCB gameplay... TBH I'd like to see more Resurrection Butterfly spells in the future. Fangames like Book of Star Mythology and Earthen Miraculous Sword (which isn't even Touhou but whatever) have given us their share of Resurrection Butterflies, but who knows if ZUN will return to that well?
yep, and nowadays, for some reason, it's the fighting game final bosses that get the Ressurection butterfly treatments

I just did it. I somehow fucking did it. My first ever Normal 1cc. I just did this spell with no lives, no bombs and no barrier. What the fuck.
if you can manage to get to Stage 6 in the first place on Normal, Reflowering 40% isn't that tough, it just *looks* overwhelming. At least in my experience, Yuyuko's nonspells and Youmu's spells are harder to get around; I think I managed about half my encounters with Reflowering on Normal unhit.
You'll only improve from here! I remember her last spell being very threatening, but now it's super doable no matter which difficulty.
Once you know how to beat Resurrection Butterfly - 80% Reflowering, it's all fun and games.

You're missing the point. If it reach 100% it means that the Saigyou Ayakashi plus her body underneath it would be resurrected. Her current self would no longer exist, and therefore there will be no one to cast the spell card "Resurrection Butterfly - 100% Reflowering".

This moment was so cool that it hasn't been replicated even 18 years and 11 games later, and this music adds so much to it, especially with it crescendoing as the card goes on

This theme signifies the horror when I first got killed here after I thought I had won...
...and the triumph I felt after I actually beat Yuyuko with extremely thin margin.
I was shaking the first time this happened. Still a magical moment and the red waves still piss me off.
For those who think the Touhou plots are just fun and games, here’s what’s at stake if you lose in a good number of ‘em:
EoSD: Remilia and Flandre are able to rampage throughout Gensokyo with total impunity
PCB: Everyone in Gensokyo dies
MoF: All the gods die and Kanako takes total control of Gensokyo
SWR: The world is destroyed by earthquakes
SA: The world is destroyed by nuclear explosions
HM: All positive emotions are gone from the world
ULiL: The barrier is destroyed and all the yōkai of Gensokyo are unleashed upon the real world
LoLK: All organic matter on Earth is destroyed
HRtP: The Yin-Yang ball completely vaporizes Earth

this theme is genuine ptsd.
As much as I love the other "final spell" themes (Voyage 1970, Heaven through the eyes of a Child etc.) they don't really encapsulate the "very definately the final stand" moment as this one does.

being there with only one life left was one of the most scary, intense and rewarding moments in gaming history, nothing even comes close to this
When I (thought I) beat Yuyuko for the first time, I felt so accomplished. _Then_ this theme kicked in, and Yuyuko appeared on the screen with *"Resurrection Butterfly ~ 40% Reflowering"* Immediately, I felt like, "Oh shit, I know she's not screwing around anymore."

Remember when I got to this bit the first time in normal mode, 0 continues, 0 extra lives, 0 bombs. I thought I had beaten the final boss but when this spell started shooting at me, when I realised it was an endurance round I thought 'IM TOAST'. I did manage to survive in the end but at the cost of a fresh pair of underwear.
Honestly my favorite theme in Touhou.

i just got my first normal 1cc ever. and what a great game to start with, i'm really feeling myself to try the other titles. one of the most intense moments i had with any game and the feeling of accomplishment right after is so good.
