I just recently acquired the same 8x3 double-sided stone. Mine has a rectangular slot cut out of the lower foam pad inside to hold and store the orange magnetic angle guide. Seems to be an improvement they’ve added to the package (you could do that yourself with a sharp knife easily). I got mine mainly to sharpen chisels and plane blades, but will do knives as well. Plus to flatten my water stones. The Sharpal works great for all purposes so far (only used twice for all purposes). I have also cleaned the residue on the diamond stone by brushing it with a a small brass wire brush, some baking soda and a bit of water, then rinse off quickly a dry thoroughly. I leave it out to dry, then store in the case with a small silica gel dessicant package (got lots of those, they seem to come with everything like vitamins and ASA tablets, etc. I save them) to keep it dry when not in use.

Got this to sharpen my Civivi Elementum in D2 steel which is very hard and won’t take an edge on a water whetstone and basically just ruin it. Nice video

Do you know what kind of honing stone the older one is? Is there a marking on it?

I personally ordred the 8x3 size. Also, I think you have both of your foam insert at the bottom. Usually, the full foam go on the box cover side and you have a second layer under the stone with a slot for the angle mesure. That way, your stone won't move in the box.

Thanks for the review. I'm thinking of buying the 8x3 but the only honest review I've seen so far is yours, the rest have been given the stones by sharpal. I also noticed that the company was active on social media until a year ago (late november 2019) and then nothing. Weird, anyways...
Since you have been using it for some time now, what is your current advice. Are you satisfied with it, is it worth buying or has it been stripped clean of diamonds? :)

The 320 side holds up good to 1200 side on mine is worn shows many dark spots
