      Correction, people did complain about tank stacking. Also what do you do when the best synergy tank to your shield tank is another shield tank? Nerf both of them to the ground so that they can’t be played at all? Nerf them to the point where they’re decent with each other but trash with everyone else? 6v6rs love talking about how ez it is to nerf double shield but never not once have they offered a solution

      @@AzureRoxe Sombra was over tuned with hack but she's a dps. And Ana at least has drawbacks like lacking mobility and consistent dmg. Giving those braindead abilities to supports like kiriko or lifeweaver who are hard to kill is what's hurting the game

      @@AzureRoxeHack and sleep are not “brain dead”. They are extremely powerful, yes, but those cool downs demand a level of either skill or decision making that are incrementally strong in the first place.
      Suzu, Immortality field, things like that are “brain dead”, because there is too much reward for too little action.

    I keep hearing queue times as an argument for 1 tank, but it's like everyone forgot there was a 40$ barrier to entry in OW1. The game is F2P and it should be much easier to support the extra tank slot.

      Ow isn't even really dying, lots of people are playing, people like tanks, they choose them in open queue all the time.
      The issue literally is 5v5 and that's it

      ​@Grimnoire true. Whenever I want to go play tank I queue up in comp open queue because getting counterswapped in role is miserable. If I get counterswapped in open queue it's not nearly as bad at all since I have 1-2 other tanks helping me

    As someone who has played Overwatch ever since the first beta, I never remember people saying that two tanks was an issue. Literally never. Maybe I was out of the loop, but I’ve been pretty tuned into the overall RUclips community at least since Ana released. So fast forward to Overwatch 2 and now they’re removing the tank and it just felt random and pointless. And it actually felt like a step back. I was never a tank main, I only played dps in overwatch 1, but even as a dps, having two tanks was just more fun. More ult combos, more strategies and team comps. Also, my favorite maps were 2cp maps like hanamura and temple of Anubis, but that’s a different discussion.

      It's because no one did complain about it. People complained about the amount of shields, not the fact there were two tanks lol. They just needed a "new" game because they knew pve wasn't going to come out, they just needed *something* to do for three years to make it look like they're doing anything. Is what it is.

      Also they were trying to lower queue times for tanks. Most people didn’t play tank and it was becoming a problem even though I don’t remember anyone complaining about playing tank at the time.

      It's so stupid. People didn't play tank because it was boring. Look how boring sig and old orisa were. So boring shoot from behind a shield.
      Now we have new FUN TANKS like Ram, JQ, Doom, and even new orisa has a fun javelin. The problem was always tank design and quality of life. They made boring tanks and made the tank experience miserable and abandoned the game. Then they act like people just randomly hate tanks instead of acknowledging that this is a game and it should be fun.
      Remember original dva?? No micro missiles, defense matrix on a cooldown? Remember Winston not even having a right click? Remember rein only having 1 fire strike and being unable to turn much or cancel charge?
      They made tanks BORING. that's why no one wanted to play tank.

    Playing overwatch 1 was fun.
    Learning overwatch 1 was fun.
    Improving at overwatch 1 was fun.
    Doing all of the above with your friends, was amazing.
    Overwatch 2 for me is not fun, learning it is pointless and improving does not seem worthwhile.
    I don't have any friends left in overwatch, but I got more and more in other games.
    I have friends at Heroes of the storm.
    The game that blizzard put on life support.

      “Improving does not seem worthwhile” You hit the nail on the head, even with improving, the matchmaker will put you into the most unwinnable games. It’s no secret almost everyone has a 50/50 win loss rate and that truly makes no sense to me.

    6v6 allowed for more tempo variety imo. You had the ability to slow the game down with ball for example while not having your backline explode with dva, and the ability to speed up the game to an unbelievable pace with 6 man dive for example. Also people overestimate how dominant double shield was throughout the course of OW 1. Double shield was unbelievably meta in all levels for a time then got phased to irrelevancy in high levels. When double shield was phased out in pro play it became only a shitterelo issue especially near the end, people forget that the best comp for like 2 years before ow 1 ended was some variant of ball comp (which was a high skill and healthy comp imo).

    I personally loved dragged on fights, it was such a high adrenaline and I ACTUALLY felt like a superhero fighting supervillains.
    The current, respawn-die simulator is the reason I stopped playing cod.
    I want overwatch back, I want 6v6 back, I want earnable lootboxes back
    I'm sick and tired of seeing the 100th shop skin that I will never have the chance to own because I'm from 3rd world country and OW microtransactions aren't priced for my wallet.

    5v5 will always suck. Its been over a year!! Nothing worse having to swap because your character has no chance verses some comps. I wouldnt mind a fight not being in my favor and having to get extra sweaty to win. I hate not having a chance and having to swap.

    The only reason they removed a tank was to justify making a sequel since they knew they were never gonna deliver on pve. Part of protecting themselves from getting sued trying to squeeze money from the game ahead of the sale to Microsoft.

    I know for a damn fact he didnt equate paladins to a low skill ceiling game when characters like roadhog,anna,hanzo,widow all exist in overwatch even sigma is easy. I am borderline unstoppable in overwatch in ranked and currently rest easy in diamond 4 but in paladins im stuck in bronze becusse that game requires waaayyyyy more thinking then spamzo or window widow or trap hogs, there is only one play style for every overwatch character as in hiding,positioning and or spammming and characters like mercy exist to make up for your mistake. In paladins when you die in the first round you wree garanteed a loss especially when your playing a game where characters who require less skill like bouncehouse buck or even dibilitate skye dominate characters who have low time to kills. And in overwatch every character has a high time to kill with basic combos. Lastly the ultimates are garamteed wins if you know where to ult,like sigma behind buildings or hog on maps or orisa just being a fuckin wall. Redact your statement and try to win ONE game in ranked paladins as any character who isnt meta i dare you. In overwatch characters dispite metas are servicable thats how we end up with one tricks in overwatch like Zbra or Cyx or frogger or arge. Becusse characters are too damn easy to master.

    Ive said it once ill say it again, we went the wrong way, 7v7. 2 tanks lower their power and allow for synergy, 3 dps so dps is a powerful role, and 2 supports so supports that are overpowered will be balanced healing more people, thoughts?

    Ok his point about one hero being able to entirely team wipe is an aspect of what makes OW fun… In 5v5 it’s so easy for that to happen (because of lack of 2nd tank) that it makes it simple and boring, but their solution is to hamstring players and their skill to artificially make it last longer. Yeah, I want there to be some “curves” in a match, I don’t want it to be simplistic and straightforward, but because we don’t have the nuances of a full 6v6 OW match, we have to add all these passives, double down on immortalities, make every tank have absurd stats just to be playable and ruin all the hero diversity so that there can’t be that advantage that snowballs a fight. Instead of Genji mowing people down while nanoed like in that clip, it’s oh let me bait out Soj slide, Moira fade, Sombra translo, etc, now let me get through lifegrip and suzu then I can actually play the game. It just makes the game feel like a chore. If we’re going to be OW2/5v5, it’s got to be a TDM where DPS can pop off and take out a whole team. If you want things like layered teamfights, group pathing, and a longer CD exchange you should be pro 6v6, the game is just better that way and it makes tanks/supports relevant since tanks can synergize and are punishable so good/great is distinguished but also supports can have an actual frontline to do their job and get the experience playing as a healer without having to be better dps due to being exposed in 5v5 and forced to play for damage when that role attracts people who DON’T want to do that stuff, at least all the time. There’s just more to do on tank/support in 6v6 and DPS is also more fun since each hero is individually weaker.

    24:30 - The theory as to why more forgiving projectile sizes helps balance:
    It's about the tug of war between balancing for lower ranks vs higher ranks, specifically when it comes to time-to-kill (TTK). In the low extreme, fights often last way longer because of the lower accuracy, and therefore lower DPS of each team. In the high extreme, fights can be over very quickly because of the high accuracy, and therefore higher DPS of each team. You might argue that positioning levels that out somewhat and you'd be right, but that's the theory. By making projectiles more forgiving, you're bringing the skill floor up for all damage dealers in the game, allowing lower ranks to achieve more similar TTK to higher ranks, which reduces the range of gameplay experiences the balance team has to consider when making any change.
    TLDR: It makes the outcome of balance changes more predictable and more uniform across all ranks.

    You are spitting so many facts, it's insane.
    The problem with 5v5 is the power budget for the characters is way out of wack
    Tanks had to be made twice as strong to cover for another tanks while supports were made to do more damage because in the beta without their role passives, they were getting blown up.
    6v6 wasn't the issue, not updating the game to work on a game they barely delivered on is the issue. With every patch, it feels like Ow2 tries to fix issues that they created in the previous patch.
    In Ow1, shield meta was such a big issue, so in Ow2 they lowered the amount of shields (great), but then they overcompensated by removing a whole tank, when it wasn't a tank issue, it was a neglect issue.
    It really feels like the devs are too stubborn to admit that 5v5 was not a great idea, and they keep putting bandaids to try to fix it
    My take: Bring back 6v6, get rid of one shots (except Widow since that is kind of her thing), and get rid of immortality abilities, and not every character needs to be viable at all levels of play

    I mean, the bigger projectiles will lessen the effect of the game we've been playing where we had some seasons in OW2 where Sojourn was a throw pick in Bronze, and a throw if not picked in Top500. Making some of the cast more accessible will, in a way, still make it easier to balance. It's not a magic fix because player skill is so different, but I reckon that this season, 9, has made Sojourn (and other heroes) more accessible to lower ranked players as well. In the long term it should help the balancing team.

    To be honest I miss the days when you didnt regen health on its own. It made a difference between shield and health and also it was fun to learn the map design where are health packs you can camp them as defending team denying them healing or you can hack them as Sombra for your team so they can heal faster while your supports walk from spawn.

    At 15:00 it's not just that more triple supps were run, it's more directly debunked by this:
    WHEN double shield was hard meta, that WHOLE TIME the leaderboard was riddled with Bap Ana and Brig. If Kiriko existed back then, she'd have been used, and MAYBE illari. Maybe you'd find a Zen every now and again, but nobody could even PLAY Lucio. Even in that meta if your tanks were "trolling" picking hog zarya and you had the bap+brig, and the enemy team had Sig Orisa, but had Mercy Lucio... The double shield team would _consistently LOSE_ that matchup. Meaning the SUPPORTS were the lynchpin, not the tanks.
    The two tanks had survivability, but the SUPPORTS could keep them alive during the window where they have no abilities up. Essentially it was that your "time window" to make a play was reduced to 0 seconds, and the game was just about who fucks up their rotation first.

    I hated overwatch 2 as soon as I played my first game in it I stopped for like 6 months. One day I decided to go back really give it a worthwhile shot. I was on a grind for hours and days as DPS hit scan player. Guess what it paid off I really enjoy playing overwatch now I got really good at it I slap around my lobby’s all day.

    I really don't understand the 6v6 argument. The reason for 5v5 was a lack of tank players. I already know the response to that statement 'But overwatch 2 is going to have more players and if they just make tank fun then more people will play it.' To the first response just because there is more players doesn't fix that there is a low percentage of tank players. Would it have lowered queue times, probably, but not enough. I don't think you remember how long queue times were back then, for me it was 7-9 minutes for the dps queue. Now it rarely goes above 2 minutes. In response to they could just make tank more fun and more people will play it, I think you forget that tank is the least popular role for every game. Why would you want to be the guy holding the shield over the sword. In reality if you wanted tank to be fun you would have to make the tanks more like dps. However, then the supports would have low queue times and you would have to make the supports more like dps, and then you wouldn't have overwatch heroes they would be more like apex legends. The strength of overwatch is its diverse characters, to make each role balanced in player numbers you would have to homogenize the characters and result in a much worse overwatch in my opinion.
    The biggest reason why I don't like the 6v6 argument is that it is pointless to go back to 6v6, because at this point it would take less effort to balance 5v5 than it would to go back to 6v6 and balance it. Do tanks have a counter swapping problem? Yes! Would 6v6 solve that problem? Yes! Would removing the ability to swap solve that problem? Yes! There are so many solutions that aren't 6v6 out there, I wish people were looking for them instead of clinging to an old idea that I don't think will happen.

My concern is 6v6 is more fun so more players play, but if 5v5 is not fun even less than what we have now will all leave, then que times are terrible again anyways. And I am lost why pro 5v5 argue que times when we don't have real numbers other than the abandoned for its last 2 years overwatch 1 that was an investment while now its free to play so of course naturally que times are better now.

      That is the point of skill rankings but the issue is all rankings are balanced the same.
      Balance matters in high rank games where everything can be utilized to its fullest, and balance doesn't matter in low ranks where nothing can be utilized to its fullest.

    Samito I have a question: is it wrong for Supports to have the same lethality as DPS outside of Ultimates?
    As a support player, I feel that after this patch I am playing a much more difficult game than my DPS counterparts, and it feels unfair. Because Supports have to account for positioning, punishing mistakes, and undoing mistakes, and DPS only need to focus on positioning and punishing. I feel like they should be nearly equal in terms of lethality because Supports have the responsibility of DPS plus more. I don't think it's fair that a DPS player of the same skill as me has the upper hand just because he's a DPS, and I'm a Support, and therefore has better damage output than me (thanks to the passive). I think that if I'm Kiriko, and I'm going up against a Soldier, Cassidy, or Genji, and we're completely committed to dueling, that it should be nearly 50/50 who comes out on top if we are equal skilled in the 'punishing mistakes' responsibilities they both share.
    Being a Support to me was always finding a balance between dealing damage and healing, and knowing when to switch, and being a DPS came with the perk that they never needed to switch, so they were just 100% pressure all of the time. With the new changes, I feel that this balance has shifted, homogenizing supports into 'outheal the passive' and 'Kill their team before their passive breaks yours' roles, and that balance has been lost for the role.
    Again, I'm a support so bias, and a Silver to boot, so please tell me if there are flaws in this logic. Thank You!

      Not really a concern this patch at all. With hit box changes, character changes, projectile changes happening. Ultimate saved after swapping is so low on the impact meter

    they got rid of double tank cause queue times were dogwater. now we need double the tanks which will double the queue times (exaggerating) sometimes it takes 4-5 mins to get into dps/support (around mid diamond) I assume its worse the higher you go. That's the problem they cant solve. only when the population gets higher and queue times drop they could go back. But I don't know theres like 100s of different game modes arcade and customs quickplay comp open and closed roles. the community is super split so populations are even smaller. I see the same people in my comp matches more than I used to. So the more they make these crazy changes to get people the faster we go back maybe idk. There is def a huge ease of access now and people are staying longer i feel not 100% sure though

    Ow devs want to have their cake and eat it too when it comes to the support category. Yes they deal damage, yes they heal, yes they have damage denial in a lot of ways.
    If you want them to have good heals and denial, take away their dps ceiling and add punishments for using those abilities in a bad way.
    If you want them to be a more dps focused support make their heals have a lower ceiling or not able to be consistent throughout an entire teamfight.
    If you want them to have good survivability make it harder for them to eliminate the enemy team.
    Good gameplay and development is based around downsides and upsides to the choices you make in game. This is not pve, it makes no sense to have abilities with no downsides.
    The other roles are more forward in their responsibilities and they are at the mercy of the support category.

    Sam, I still don’t get it. I’ve been a mid-high level, casual (I’m old) GM player since the game release. It still boggles my mind that the devs and “high elo” players still have such bad takes on what the core fundamental issues of the game are; and these people play EVERY DAY. Do it all DLC heroes, hero design and the inability to change (not nerf) core designs of these flawed characters and support “get out of jail free” abilities have ruined what this game was intended to be. The only things that 5v5 did was make it more difficult to balance the game and synergies of the game, made counter-picking so much more necessary to win (sorry Awkward but I don’t care how good you are at Winston, but if we go brig/zen and dva in a high-elo lobby, you just can’t play the game) The only way to fix the game is to bring back 6v6 and change hero designs; even though she isn’t -currently- oppressive, you can start with brig since she absolutely breaks the core fundamentals of the design of overwatch.

    Season 9 was somewhat on the right track until they made generally terrible changes in the mid-season balance patch, yet again. It's crazy just how bad 3/4 of the tank cast is in particular right now, and the characters that are meta are the ones that make the game feel terrible to play.

    Double shield was just Fing boring, the new system is just annoying, and all of this is because of increasingly poor design choices by blizzard. Immortality abilities need to be removed, and ult cooldowns need to be much longer to bring the game back to most fights being dependent on player skill and team pushing to matter more than someone just popping Q damn near every fight.

    since OW2 launched ive been a huge 5v5 defender especially from the perspective of dps its nice to be able to actually kill stuff. I quit OW1 because of double shield meta and I've hated the idea of going back to 6v6 every time you bring it up i get a little annoyed but I can no longer deny that the tank counterswap is a huge problem that I dont think will ever be fixed in 5v5. Playing tank is so miserable because you cant play a tank you enjoy playing ane stay on that tank if you want to win because the enemy tank is just going to counterswap you and make your life miserable. However nobody wants to play tank and going back to 6v6 will make dps and support queue times insanely long so I dont think we have the tank playerbase to even go back. I think hero bans need to be implemented.

    I wonder when its ever going to occur to you guys that maybe you are the problem, and not overwatch? Its really hard to take a community seriously that can't remove emotion from the equation. All the things that were absolutely hated in OW1 and constantly complained about are now things that people apparently miss so much and want back in the game... while then in the same paragraph complaining about a problem in OW2 that is literally identical to what they want back from OW1 lol. I think a lot of you, including you Samito, need to take some take and rewatch some gameplay from back during 'its golden times' so you can realize that its not at all what you are all describing. Its also funny that to get back to that state you'd have to remove A LOT of characters, characters that none of you want removed, while keeping characters that you do want removed. Lastly, all of the proposed 'solutions', including Samitos, always have the same caveat of leaving at least one of the roles boring... but how would you know that when you don't have any perspective of playing all roles a lot in the first place. You all also think that you can just pull on a single thread and have it effect just that one thread, when in reality, it distorts the entire woven fabric.

    Happens to every game dev studio with success, halo, cod, apex, etc. they start with a team of design masters who refine an entertaining idea enough for a $60 purchase, then the ip becomes purely a product and they hire all kinds of college kids who’ve never worked on a game, fill it with meandering woke garbage to appease as many people as possible. Nothing gets improved and whatever is added only barely mimics what it once was.

    Maybe 5v5 would work better if they did the opposite of what they did in the last patch. Decrease health pools universally and adjust some damage numbers. Tank should be able to compete with dps in terms of elims/damage if we stay 5v5. Otherwise I completely agree we should go back to 6v6.

    If they made a tank passive to be fair. Dps will be unplayable. Tank is the only role that really doesnt have anything to work with. Why is dps the only one to lower the chances of healing. Bruh this passive coudve worked in 6v6. Its horrible in 5v5 when its just 1 tank.

I mean, I'm Genji mainer (almost OTP) but it took me like playing on other heroes in different roles + countless QPs + reaching silver (as Reaper mainer + with friends) and most importantly EVERY DEATHMATCH while queuing playing on Genji for 6+ month. Only after that, I started to play on him on QPs, and then only after that I started to play on Genji in ranks(while still being Reaper main and using other chars mostly). Mastering Genji was tough but he took me to Gold (where I stopped and never ever grow cuz Genji became my main and life was not daijoubu after that).
    The same story with Hanzo, it took me a while to learn how to play on him cuz using an Archer with mere sound arrow and 5 fast charged arrow feels counter-intuitive in a FPS shooter game, like WTH was I supposed to do with him. It take me a long to figure out his identity, his play style and etc before I start to play him properly.
    Characters like Shimada bros never meant to be "choose them and you on an instinct level know what to do" chars like Soldier or McCree for example. The take is very weird.

    They can save the game by removing healing and turning the supports into dps and tanks.
    Blizzard cant balance supports so lets remove them.

    Yesterday I was playing queen and it felt like I was putting out Kobe Bryant stats and plays but since they were on my counters it would all good for nothing, my positioning was on point I was hit shots peeling for the back line when I could but no value since after 1 fight they would all be on my counters it wasn’t fun I just wanted to enjoy some queen

    Maybe the issue isn't all on 5v5, maybe it's on role queue too. In 6v6 role queue was the proper comp mode, open queue was looked down on. Maybe if the game stays 5v5 the player base needs to move to open queue? Role queue in a 5v5 just seems a little overkill on your options.

      Role que was put in to stop goats comp. It also helps with the too many dogs on one team problem.
      I much prefer role queue because at least I won' be getting one support trying to keep 4 DPS alive against 3 tanks 2 support comps.

      @@ShinimagisFTWI know, I just think now it might be an idea to revisit open queue. Teams will have to balance around having only 1 character for a role (or 0) and you can dramatically effect team balances and synergies, which is lacking in 5v5 in the role queue structure. Might not make a diff, but I think it could be more interesting. Even though the game is balanced around the 5v5RQ system.

    Am i just not thinking or does no one ever talk about the fact that if you made the oppressive easy heros slightly harder to play than the harder heros like sojourn that get buffed due to lower ranks would inherently be more usable in lower ranks? People always talk about this problem as if its simply a sojourn problem or high skill hero problem but never talk aboht the fact that lower ranks have had the same meta consistenting of bastions, torbs, rats, reapers, orisas and morias for nearly a decade now, so how is anything gonna compete with all that easy crap without also being a terribly design easy hero?
    And i get people love saying "but people need those heros' do they? The skill floor is only as hard to reach as the difficulty around you, so if torb, bastion and all them didbt exist, than the easiest hero everyone picks to instsntly win over others in silver and gold will default to the next hero who could be harder to play and then wala, now you've effectively increased your skill floor and no one should be turned off your game unless theyre literally so gamer impaired that they cant even exist comfortably in yhe game which in that case go back to your mid life crisis old man, games probably arent for you but even a baby can have fun in dark souls solo, and these players will just run at the choke, spam buttons, die and repeat anyway so why does it matter how easy their heros are? The only feasible reason i can see for keepiny brain dead heros is to make those players feel good for beating the actual good players which 8s effectively participation rewards, so if the only reason we do this is for participation rewards than why are we makinh the game harder to balance for this?
    But its funny because no one really ever complains about this problem because they think it doesnt effect them but it does because sojourn wouldnt need to be giga buffed if this were the case and i garentee you itll happen with every skillful hero drop, and this might also be why they dont make very skillful heros anymore, its in their worst interests to do so now, so the lack of a protest against these brain dead heros maybe spawns more brain dead heros like mauga since no one is talking about it being problematic but they talk about sojourn beibg problematic when it should be the inverse if we want more skill expression heros like sojourn rather than mauga.
