The Chaplins were forbidden to go into combat, I was in the Mobile Riverine Force in 1969, earlier a company was caught in the open rice paddies, reinforcement came and all were being slaughtered, 90% casualty rate, the Chaplin heard about it and caught a lift with more troops , he spent 5 or 6 hours running and crawling through the fire, bullets chewing up the mud around him, I think he saved 40 or 50 guys , draging them through the blood bath . Finally artillery and air support made the VC and NVA pull out. The company commanders recommend him for the Metal Of Honor, but was turned down so as to not encourage other Chaplins to go into combat. True hero.
I was in 7th grade in arizona when this one hit the airwaves. There were 2 versions....a short one for am radio play and the "long" version, as played here....for FM / album formats. What a masterpiece this long version was / is. My dear God the amount of incredible music those of us known as Boomers had coming at us from every direction! I was SO LUCKY to have been born when I was. And this band.....The Animals from Britain......what fantastic musicians they ALL were. jbeinarizona
Same here the first song I ever heard on a really good sound system it was the LP version it would Crank It Up loud after the dive bomber. the best time to be a kid
President Eisenhower was correct. "Beware the Military Industrial Complex". I know Jesus is the Christ. And so did my parents. Any who served between 1960-1973 knows the same. WE WERE CORRECT.
Our boys in the military and sadly our women in the politically correct military. Did NATO (Int'l army, pushing eastward since 1991) instigate the sad situation in Ukraine??? You know it

My 2nd-favorite "British Invasion" band (behind The Who). Sadly, somehow Eric Burdon and The Animals don't seem to have gotten the due acclaim they so richly deserve.
El 21 de mayo de 2011, Eric Burdon & The Animals se presentó en el Club Blue de la Ciudad de México. Asistí al evento. Aquel fue uno de los días más maravillosos de mi vida.
Whenever I hear this incredible song I think of that powerful little poem by Randall Jarrell called 'The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner. And it usually gives me the shivers. War is truly hell on earth.
Never heard the entirety of this song until now, radio stations I have heard only play about half (I guess the 3.5 traditinal limit for pop music on many stations), but the second half is really crucial in the complete experience, with the bagpipes and sounds of war going on, yes, you get the feeling of being in this war, "fighting for "Mother Country"", and at the same time knowing "This is just a "F-ing" mess, death, death and more death, and is "Mother Country" really worth all this?"
J'adore les craquements du vinyle. J'avais acheté le 45 tours Barclay au Drugstore des Champs Elysées en 68, morceau partagé sur les 2 faces. 1964, Canal Zone Panama, at the card table were 1 Colonel, 2 Captains, a Lieutenant, and my father. The Colonel (my godfather) says The US wants in Vietnam what they got in Korea, a country divided. One we can hate, and one who will provide a trading partner. I was 7, sitting on my father's lap. All those who died may you Rest In Peace Everyone should go to the Vietnam Memorial in DC
GREAT STUFF !! But my vinyl is much cleaner than this . A young soldier so ill , looks at the sky pilot , remembers the words , THOU SHALT NOT KILL !!!!!
Just remember: No less than John F. Kennedy said that. NY Economic Club, 1962. Quote: "Life, is not fayah (fair, NY/NE pronunciation). He was killed for his knowledge. Why u think we all want to vote for Trump?
Interesting ....mind set of sky pilot sending others out - you'll get 70 virgins beside it being your duty by the King. Quite a song yes . for others? and there is reincarnation.
