Actually the range (effective distance) depends on the intensity of the flame. For this video, the sensor can detect the candle light from more or less 2 inches away. If we were to move the candle a meter away, the sensor might not be able to detect the flame (havent tested). But if you were to replace the candle with a bonfire a meter away, the sensor will be able to see that.
