How about draining deer creek and jordanelle reservoir. They will refill and that water was supposed to end up naturally in the great salt lake naturally. Therez 192000 acreft of water in deer creek alone.
There are toxic substances on the lake bed, like arsenic. The fear is that if parts of the lake dry up, those substances will be exposed and could be blown in the wind to human inhabited areas.
So your putting good fresh water in a body of salt water that can't be used for anything. What a waste of good water. This has to be a politicians dumb idea.
I think it's all in effort so the GSL doesn't dry up, and Utah doesn't get arsenic dust storms. I don't think I would describe Utah lake as good water since it often gets deadly algae blooms almost every year.

I remember praying and asking God to fill the reservoirs or California and Utah… but not the Salt Lake. I hope that the governing authorities will consider what they are doing with our water that God gives us for free. A lot gets used to cool data centers and the prices of water don’t go down for the residents.
Hmm must have a overflow extra fresh water 😮 I can't see how but ok. Great salt Lake needs to partner with the state and many companies along the way with solar companies, manufacturers, so on for a a sea water pipeline, heck or even federal and states working together with a mineral recycling system or and get a boring company like Elon musk boring companies. Something
What a waste of clean good water!! Just turn it to saltwater so nobody can use it. Makes sense to me. Just another reason to make clean water more expensive. Sadly the farmers don't even get any to grow crops.
If the Great Salt Lake dries up, it'll release all the arsenic laden dust that makes up its lakebed. So it's a serious health hazard, on top of the ecological destruction the reduction of the lake would cause.

More water in the lake makes it LESS salty and preserves the ecosystem for brine shrimp, migrating birds, etc. It also helps the ecosytem of the Jordan River on it's way to the lake.
All dirt has contaminents. So we ruin all our clean water to stop dust that we breathe in all the time anyway ? Our body can handle A LOT of toxins before it becomes a problem.@@amandak4491
They should fill the lake with reclaimed toilet to the tap water.
Leasing water is creazy 😂😂

Salt Lake dries up big deal, so what…using fresh water to save something that is useless, shake your head

Restore beavers and their habitats in the upper watersheds
Fantastic,pray this continues EH
What great things are going to happen?? Who's benefits from this? What's the real purpose for them to control the water
They sound like cartoon characters
Cool
Yeah mixing fresh water with salt water, that's a good idea. And if it wasn't obvious I'm being sarcastic.
"Gallons" of water, rather than cubic feet or cubic meters?? Will we ever finally use the decimal system??
One Reason there's Droughts.

Yeah because the lake has no effect at all on the ecosystem. Just the lake effect in the winter makes it worth it. Grow up already.
@abrahamlincoln6619 You forgot about the salt shrimp that live in the lake also all the Nats that live of it. Go educate yourself with some research.

contaminated 🤔

Yes, forming a sentence with a completed thought-very difficult to understand.

The farmers had plenty this year. This is literally the water they didn't use because they had plenty.
People could move somewhere livable and stop wasting our resources
Bureaucrat bull crap.
This seems so dumb. Salt Lake is..A SALT LAKE. Millions of dollars to make more water more salty. Keep it classy Utah.

@@amandak4491 I live downwind of the lake and that dust is no joke!
Do you think it rains salt water in salt lake? It’s what’s in the floor bed.
