The Non-Canon Expert looks at what Yoda thought and recognized after seeing Padme run to Anakin Skywalker and initiate an embrace between the Jedi Padawan and the Senator from Naboo on Geonosis, explaining how Yoda responded to this action in the immediate aftermath of Episode 2: Attack of the Clones.
This is a Legends story for Yoda and the events of Episode 2: Attack of the Clones with information found within the Legends novel "Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Wild Space." I hope that you enjoy it!

"Attachment is forbidden. Possession is forbidden. Compassion, ...is central to a Jedi's life..." -Anakin, AOTC novel.
Compassion is KINDNESS, not love. Understanding, not companionship. Anakin, as usual, is twisting things to suit his desires.
@Tahkaullus01 Playing devil's advocate here, compassion is a form of "agape", which is one of the 7 forms of love in Ancient Greek philosophy. I don't particularly agree with the theory of the 7 forms of love (particularly "eros"), but it's worth mentioning.

Look at it from a psychological view. They were together and had gone through an emotional journey together before they had reached geonosis. Geonosis had been an incredibly stressful and emotional conflict where both of them had nearly been killed by monsters, droids, and bugs, and are now thrown immediately into a full scale war without warning. With or without their romantic chemistry this moment of embrace can easily be explained as a coping mechanism for padme. After so much stress, being reconnected with the person she has spent the most time with, was her sworn protector at the time, and the person she had the strongest relationship with this embrace would be the greatest most immediate sense of security and decompression at the moment, also acting as embrace of relief knowing that anakin is not dead after being sent to fight someone far more powerful than him.
Too many emotions for me
Plus she saw he was missing half his arm so I'd assume she was making sure he was okay
A. Love the comment
B. As I have been told many times before women are drawn to those who make them feel safe/ enable them to go on adventures. All though Anakin had the emotional intelligence of emotionally repressed shut in he still got the girl.
And he fucked up someone far more powerful than him. Gave her the waterfall.
This is the way i always took that scene. An embrace after an intense battle really isn't really out of the ordinary. I never took this as a reflection on any kind of plot hole and it never needed an explanation. As the viewer i already knew their relationship, but for the other characters, i always thought they were way more focused on other matters than a hug.
"There are no secrets among the Jedi." - Yoda
Freaking lol, the Order was nothing but secrets which was a contributing factor to Anakin choosing to join the Sith in the first place. Here is Yoda's hypocrisy in full view.
What's worse is he didn't even recognise his own hypocrisy until it was too late.
The most dangerous of hypocrites are those who do not see it within themselves.
To be fair he said the Jedi get no privacy, not that they have no secrets. He's basically just saying a Jedi's personal life is the concern of the entire order and by entering into a relationship with a Jedi Padme forfeited the privacy of that relationship.
I'm not saying I agree with that stance, but it's not the same thing as keeping dangerous information from reckless and impulsive young Jedi. Especially in a universe that's more fleshed out like in the EU there are certain things that are dangerous just to know about.

This is why Luke’s New Jedi Order(Legends),where he embraces attachment and allows jedi to marry, including himself, is a better philosophy. To deny love and keep it secret is part of what drove Anakin to the dark side. If Yoda would have allowed Padme and Anakin to marry publicly, I believe that things would have turned out differently.
Yes, then he would have gotten awesome wedding gifts from every Jedi before he lost control of his emotions, betrayed everyone, and murdered children. The guy was a ticking time bomb because of his emotional instability and selfishness. That was proven in Attack of the Clones. Sooner or later, Sidious would have found a way to exploit those deep character flaws, regardless of whatever support Anakin received from the Jedi.
I mean that one Jedi master on the council had multiple wives and kids openly
@@WaitingtoHit maybe, maybe not. We dont know what is down the path not travelled.
@@Allmightyimortal No, we do because the movies very clearly established him as someone who is open to acting purely on emotion and with little regard for others. His instability and impulsiveness were there since the very beginning; that's why the Jedi sensed it was risky to train him. Some movies require in-depth analysis to discern a character's nature but not these. In the very first prequel, we literally see that Anakin's shadow is not his own but Vader's.
@@WaitingtoHit that is called foreshadowing because that path was already taken, we knew it was coming, which is why I dislike prequels. They made him into that state as much if not more as he himself fell into it. Also he cared very much for others that was part of the problem in a way.

Love doesn’t lead to the dark side. Passion can lead to rage and fear, and can be controlled... But passion is not the same thing as love. Controlling your passions while being in love, that's what they should teach you to beware. But love itself will save you... not condemn you. - Jolee Bindo.

It's weird that Yoda would institute a ban on a natural thing that so often results in the creation of new life and therefore the expansion of the force. It doesn't make sense that life creates the force and for it to simultaneously be wrong for Jedi to engage in relationships like any other being in the galaxy and have children; thereby creating new life and expanding the force. The polar opposite of that rule makes more sense. The rule only makes sense in an extreme utilitarian type way that suggests attachment it wrong because it could be used against the people involved by an enemy or through an assumption that attachment only results in people doing terrible things. The Jedi Order under Grand Master Yoda must have been an Order that really dove into an ideology that didn't engage in a lot of questioning and reflecting, let alone tolerant of different view points.
Except it wasn’t Yoda who instituted that ban. Attachment has been forbidden for a Jedi for thousands of years before Yoda was even born. It’s their biggest rule. It was attachment that drove Anakin to the dark side, and made him a genocidal monster. Attachments were banned for this very reason, because the negative emotions that so easily come from attachment, drove so many Jedi to the darkness.
@@Delete240 What is the dark side even? Is it simply any strong human emotion? Is it a psychological tendency or disorder? Or moral failure? Or is it one's actions? 1st Failure: Obi-Wan failed his Master, felt responsible for his death
2nd Failure: Obi-Wan, sensing Anakin's feelings for Padme, should have requested an emergency meeting with Yoda, maybe the entire Council, and ask for an Outer Rim reassignment.
3rd Failure: Allowing Anakin to be Senator Amidala's personal body guard, even after Obi-Wan sensed Anakin's longing for her.
4th Failure: Dismissing Anakin's connection to his mother, as every other Jedi alive never knew their parents.
5th Failure: Once Obi-Wan got in touch with R2 on Tatooine, and found out they were on Anakin's homeworld, he should have ordered R2 to disable the ship, completely, in every way, to keep Anakin from putting himself and Padme in further danger.
6th Failure: no one instructing Jar Jar an army is not what Naboo wants.
Final failure: an organization like the Jedi, not quite religious, not quite social, not quite political, but allowing it to serve the Supreme Chancellor's instructions. The Jedi should not have had political affiliations at all. They should have remained loyal to democracy (more of a democratic republic) than to either the Senate or Chancellor. The Jedi were sent as negotiators during the Trade Federation blockade over Naboo. At that moment, with the Trade Federation's response, it was obvious the Jedi were already viewed as the bullies of the Republic. A republic that failed.
Great points!

It's kind of like how Palps fostered and developed his relationship with Anakin with he full knowledge and even (at times) the blessing of the Jedi.
They should have been a lot more worried about a middle aged politician taking an interest in a 12 year old Padawan, not just because its creepy. Instead, they let him take Anakin on a special assignment and become like a father figure to him.
He's also the biggest coward in all of starwars too, imo...
He hid away on Dagobah for the rest of his life... not once did he try to fight the empire through espionage and assassinations, like taking out Vader. He owed the people of the fallen Republic his life. It was his DUTY AS A JEDI to protect the galaxy, to fight the empire, even if it assured his death. Under Yoda, the Jedi were soldiers, warriors. Guess that applied to everyone but him in the end lol.
He was content just sitting around, not passing on his knowlege... or anything. He was going to take his knowledge to the grave...
Hell, when Luke showed up for training, he even rejected him initially lol....
Yoda was a pathetic coward, who deflected blame, lacked ANY self accountability, and was a horrible leader/horrible Grand Master... his blatantly flawed philosophies and strict rules directly led to the fall of the Republic and the Jedi. Lol
@@Kevin-zz9du I don't disagree, but he also knew he would be the only one likely to survive long enough to train Luke
Yoda does not understand family at all. He is a space frog.
@@Kevin-zz9du I’m convinced you’ve never watched the films. Espionage and assassination aren’t the way of the Jedi. Plus, he literally tried to kill the emperor, and he failed. He is far too old to be able to take on Vader and the Emperor. He needed a cane to walk, and had to augment his body with the force in order to fight. All Yoda could do is live long enough to train a Jedi who could take them on. The thing about Star Wars, is that no one is perfect. Everyone has their flaws. Luke was just as ineffective as Grandmaster as Yoda was, in both canon and legends.
And what accountability is Yoda meant to take? Only Sidious is responsible for the fall of the Jedi. He carefully orchestrated every tiny detail, and withheld his station as dark Lord through the force. By the time the Jedi knew about it, it was too late. Sidious was simply far too powerful for them.
I often think about past Jedi orders all the way back to the time of Reven and how all of them were so terrified of even the slightest trace of the dark side they would rather sit and do nothing. Joli Bindo put it best when he said love itself cannot condemn you. "Controlling your passions while being in love; that's what they should teach you."
"You at least told Padme I said 'Hello.' "
I can imagine many Jedi had secret lovers I don’t know why they just didn’t allow relationships.
The good thing about Star Wars is you can interpret it a lot of different ways. I also think that many jedi would have secret relationships that the council would just gloss over.
Great video! Thanks =D
If the jedi would have got off there high horse , and allow jedi to have families, none of this dark side empire crap would have happened. They should have supported them and protected the two. Would have saved alot of planets being blown up, and alot of people all across the galaxy from being killed from the empire.

"for probably needing to follow up on this one"
As I’m watching The Clone Wars again for the first time in a while, the more I see just how right Luke was for wanting to end the Jedi. The Jedi belief system was very flawed at the end of the Republic. Sidious and the clone war completely blinded them to their flaws and arrogance. There are so many examples of it taking place that I could write a whole book of them.
You can tell through this story that Yoda genuinely cared for every jedi under him. He’s upset that he allowed such a thing to develop and he is upset that both he and Obi Wan where blinded by it. He clearly didnt want either of them to end up as it did
Wild Space is one of a very few instances of the Jedi actually acknowledging the growing relationship between Anakin and Padme, and I frankly adore it. They are not good at hiding their feelings, and a scene like this not occurring would be far stranger
For probably needing to follow up on this one then. Great video. I love this book. I always wondered why in the hell the jedi let Anakin go back to Naboo with Padme'. "In my bunk, I will be." - Yoda (in is mind)
I read the book and that was a great scene
All the Jedi knew. There was too much interaction between them in the clone wars for nobody to know nothing. Obi Wan immediately knew Anakin was the father of her children. They looked the other way most of the time because of his success in the Clone wars.
Wow. Obi Wan is buff!
"Padmes feelings were not important"
Oh were they in for something special
Yoda looking at them the way Stephen was looking at Django.
Hmmmmm Ketamine I smoke, make me savage it does
*"Jealous I am. Hot Natalie Portman is"*
I agree, She cheated on Anakin with me aswell lol.
I love the thumbnail. It looks like yoda is jealous of anakin😂
In the Episode II novelization Obi-wan shared his concern about Anakin and Padme to the Council before they were separated. The Council told Obi-wan they this was part of a test for Anakin. Then in Episode III novelization Obi-wan specificly tells Padme that he doesn't want to know the details or depth of their relationship.
What Obi-wan doesn't know can't be reported back to the Jedi.
love makes jedi and sith stronger (:
Yoda’s Jedi Order should’ve allowed marriage, but Yoda made some stupid decisions regarding emotions
Yoda is a fictional character that has no control in the matter
allowing marriage and love and families would put Jedi in a sticky situation due to many unethical people would blackmail Jedi by targeting their children. Lets face it, the sheer virtue of younglings at the Jedi Temple makes it easy pickings for Crime Families and holding them for ransom.
saying the Jedi order should let people marry sound like saying jar jar binks is a droid
that doesn't compute
Luke’s Jedi Order did
Ummm... no? Marriage is literally what caused Anakin to fall.
*Hit it and quit it!*
- Relationships and the Jedi Order, Padawon Handbook, Chapter 3.
Yoda the ancient Jedi would be ashamed of you love is important to the force!
It's literally a chief principle of the light. You see many jedi who embrace actually become stronger,
This is the first time i find yoda to be kind of the jerk in a situation , and the jedi in general for the no privacy and no feelings policy , i always found it stupid , they are not droids they have them and repress them so much they dont know how to deal with them
Mister Kirikou agreed
Exactly. Like catholic priests in reality. Lots of religions talk about celibacy and/or staying single but all that just makes people weak. Having a partner in a monogamous relationship is more important to human development than reading dumb books and following dumb rules
@@cosmictsunami it does not make people weak staying celibate. It's shown your testesterone levels drop with about 20% when in a monogamous relationship. It also make you less ambitious as you pour your time energy and creative energy into it.
@@ottomanpapyrus9365 When im in a relationship i bulk up more bc my morale is high. More muscle. Idk my testosterone levels true, but makes me feel and look better. Results may vary. And not to argue with yoy friend, but if you get LESS ambitious when in a relationship, that means you dodnt find the right one. Ambition isnt everything tho so both our statements are up for high debate but when im single, im weaker overall. Not weak, but not my full self. I even feel more free but thats just my rose tinted love goggles bc im def more free when single, but canr feel or smell the freedom bc im sad. Again, results may vary. And i certainly wont argue with science 😏
WHY ARE THESE LEGENDS?! PLEASE New Disney CEO let these stories be canon again! Just erase the Disney EU for good! Thanos Snap it now!
These Legends eventually become Myths should Disney sell Star Wars/Lucasfilm to yet another bug entity. And Disney canon becomes Legends.
Disney will probably re-canonize it with a minor rewrite that doesn't credit the original author.
“Feel the force, I must. Euphemism, that was.”
I just love the thought of Thrawn leading a reading club.
The lack of support when Anakin first came to the Jedi Order was a stupid rejection.
That level of Force sensitivity and Force ability at so young an age would strengthen with age.
The boy cam from Tatooine which as a slave planet it was known to be abusive to slaves and Qui Gon and Obi Wan KNEW they were pursued by a Sith.
Want to reject a powerful Force sensitive and maybe by rejecting him make him more likely to seek another teacher to protect himself.
They should have sent someone to see what life on Tatooine was like if they didn't know.
Anakin's mother and Padme were his anchors to the Light Side of the Force, just ad Qui Gon had become to be.
The lack of the Jedi's interest in people unless their was a payment or expected payment in either wealth or political favor made their problem.
If the love was an issue, they should have sent him to work and live with the Jedi Master who actually had a wife, so Anakin could see how the two were balanced.
And maybe they shouldn't have discounted Anakin's every expression of the abuse Shmee was going through that he Saw and Fore-Saw while the Tuscans tortured her to death.
They might as well have had a treatise "how to make a person vulnerable to the Dark Side by abusive negligence."
The dead Paduwans died an easier death than of they had survived to become the slaves of the people that Sidious had convinced of the Jedi's corruption before things came to a head during Order 66
They made Darth Vader with their neglect in dealing with a battered Force Sensitive and growing user brought before them.
The way Yoda deals with absolute is why the Jedi needed to die.
Seeing the Jedi Council react to Anakin’s relationship should have been what episode 2 was about
"Mmmmmmmhmmhmhm, watch I must, like it I do."
It took me a long as time to read that title properly
Quick question: how can you label something as legends, when the source shows Rex (a known canon character) on the cover?
It was written prior to Disney cannon. SWTCW was a project that began to really retcon a lot of pre-existing legends lore regarding the Clone Wars, outright ignoring most of, if not all of, the albeit disjointed and unrelated Clone Wars novels. It really doesn't belong in Legends because it creates a lot of problems, just like Force Unleashed 1 and 2 create problems with the legends lore. It sort of gets both titles because of it's coincidental relationship with legends and that TCW books appear in older legends timelines (despite the contradictions they cause with other books and material).
There's something so funny about the Yoda art in that graphic novel.
I think what Yoda does in his personal time with Little Yoda is his own business, TYVM
