I fully support your stance on the Tower being in Fonron. while not absolutely concrete, your evidence is solid enough to me. PS: Say Oceaniz, have you ever thought of making a video about how people become Monster Hunters in-universe? And will you continue the general Monster type videos?
I love the theory that the pokke sword is actually made of fatalis and is currently regenerating but the fact the people keep mining it is preventing it from reforming into fatalis
Quick note : I just finished Kokoto village in Generations Ultimate, and the village chief, in my languague (baguette's one), said he fought Monoblos. He did not talk about the title of the monster but straight up said Monoblos. Traductions cannot be accounted as truth but that's maybe an indicator of latter clarification. Great video ! And I love Pokke so much :3
Merci beaucoup! Yeah at this point its likely that he fought both a Monoblos and a Lao at some point... which one killed his love though? Who knows! (not me)
Loved the video, though I’ve got some additions I’d like to add primarily regarding the Tower/Yama. -In Dos the Tower is the only locale to be made up exclusively of rotating quests, if you ignore Urgents/Events/Exams. -They do coincide with the elder rotation, which is a separate system online than the usual season/day-night cycle. You may think that is purely because elders are found there, but Dos also has a quest in the Breeding Season for Rathalos and Azure, which is the only non-elder dragon quest to rotate with the elders. (It took a long time working with the devs to get that to work at all on the server…) -Additionally, most of the quest descriptions for these regular (Non-Event) quests describe a rough journey to the Tower, which can only be done under “ideal” weather/environment conditions. -For the Village story of MH2, the request for the Wyverian Madame’s discovery of the Tower Location not only requires you assemble all 3 parts of the Tower Book, but also requests Psychoserum. I am not sure the Psychoserum is used to start tracking Lunastra or to assist in the discovery of the location during your final chase. -The Forelorn Arena in MH2 is implied to have been previously uncovered by the missing Exploration Team sent out to the tower, as like the Tower Book, you’ll uncover their tools and need all of them to find the hidden area and rare species lurking there. Adding to the meaning of the Explore the Unexplored repeating quest title. -Unite’s fight with Yama in the Tower completely replaced the section of the Tower used for the Kirin and Rathalos quests. It’s also unclear where exactly that part of the tower is located. -The Tower in Dos is one of the few locales that doesn’t majorly change with seasons or the Day/Night Cycle, it’s mostly the gathering rates that get altered. Sort of gives off a feeling of being “suspended in time” at least till 3rd Gen where they gave it a night version. -While Decayed Kushala scales are found in the Tower, Lunastra was the only elder dragon in the Trio to be fought at the Tower. That would change in Sunbreak. -While you could interpret the Decayed Scales as the Tower being constructed from Elder Dragon materials, I have not found anything in the games that supports that conclusion. -The part of the video regarding the Tower pages is a bit misleading, as they don’t inherently have any ties to the Jungle. The Veggie Elder trade isn’t restricted to the Jungle and the Felyne bought it off of someone. -However, the Bookshelf in Freedom 2 and Unite does mention the Tower being near/in a Jungle (had a long convo with Banned about this a year ago). -In Freedom 2 the Tower is the only major hunting ground without a Gathering/Hunting Tour, but would get a Remobra Slaying quest. -If I had one critique of this video, it is that Freedom Unite footage is used over Dos’s, the Tower actually has different details (like the addition pillars in Base Camp/Area 1 and the fallen sections in Area 2) that are missing in the portable’s compressed version. Also the stretched resolution kinda bugs me, but that’s more of a nitpick and I get why it’s done. As for Yama Tsukami’s appearance in the Jungle, it’s a bit more complicated than a random occurrence in Dos, I did some research on it and how it works that I meant to release when the server went public, but here’s some details: -That version of Yama is actually a duplicate monster in the code. -You can get hit registration on it, though it will not be painted with Paint Ammo (like Fatalis), and is immune to tracking from the Dragonseer Ballon and Autotracker/Psychoserum. -You can actually see that event multiple times in a single quest, by entering camp/carting. It rolls for the chance to happen every time the zone loads. -This encounter only happens in the Low Rank Jungle Rathian and Pink Rathian Online Quests. -Technically on Gigaproto’s offline version you can trigger Yama during the intro cutscene, but that doesn’t function the same way on the server. Anyway I’m sure I’ve forgotten some details, and hopefully that info is somewhat relevant ;P
Little fun fact: Pokke village has a small hot spring too like Yukumo Oceaniz i suggest to check out the Treasure Hunting mini-game of Freedom2/Freedom Unite as the treasures, the unique items that are only found in that mini-game, has a lot of interesting information from their description. Like the mention of Mezaport
Great video! You're doing Gog's work for this community with these. I know this one isn't popping off like you thought it might, but give it time, this is a certified Oceaniz banger. One topic I'd be really interested to see you cover is the technology level of the setting. There's a quest giver in 4U and Rise called the "Eagle-Eyed Observer" whose quest descriptions are all stylized like they're being sent over telegraph. When I noticed this, it really boggled my mind, because at first it seemed incongruous with the setting's established level of technology... but then I remembered they have airships. It feels like a topic with some potential for deeper exploration. Cheers!
as always, an absolute blast to watch and learn more about MHs lore. the theory crafting for the tower was really fun and i cant wait for more of that.
If we also count more of frontier stuff, Blinking Nargacuga, a fully white Nargacuga, is found in (almost) exclusively The Great Forest Peak, or on top of that big tree in the Great Forest.
I would love to see a Monster Hunter novel adaptation, focusing on a newbie hunter born in either Kototo or Pokke Village. I think a novel would do a good job of better defining what is canon in the series and what is not, including which locales monsters are found within.
Just search "baka tsuki monster hunter" This is the only one i found that's available to read online. It is a completed series (4 volumes), although only partially translated into english (partway into volume 3)

Out of all of the locations...the Ancient Tower is definitely one of the most mysterious and thought-provoking areas of Monster Hunter. The fact that it is so ancient, and the theories about the Jungle possibly being connected via ancient bridges coupled with the areas around it make it seem like it was actually once part of a larger area. The rare monsters inhabiting it (like the aforementioned Yama Tsukami, Lucent Nargacuga, and Molten Tigrex), may be monster that may have been around since ancient times (heck, Narga's been living in the forest area around it since Free U, so it's gotta count for something). Speaking of theories, I can only imagine what new theories will come up when we literally dive into Gen 3's locales.
Another possible explanation for the Monoblos or elder dragon confusion was that it was a particularly powerful or troublesome Monoblos. Isn’t Kokoto far Monoblos’s normal range as well? Perhaps this individual was akin to Porphyrios, the whale that terrorized Byzantine shipping. It was probably a displaced sperm whale, so maybe it’s a displaced Monoblos, and even more aggressive because of it.
I love this new series! With the next videos heading into the interpretation, I'd like to share with you a discovery of mine. In your last map, you put Val Habar in its own region called the "Val Habar region", which you put north-east of Erude. However, I did some research and couldn't find anything about a "Val Habar desert" or "region". What I did find however, is that Val Habar is said to be next to the Great Desert, the very same desert Loc Lac also borders. Indeed, it is in the Great Desert map that we fight both Jhen Mohran and Dah'ren Mohran. Wouldn't this imply that Val Habar, and by extension the ancestral steppe, are actually somewhere in the Sekumea Peninsula? Hope this helps!
Excellent way to start the year! Lore wise, Dundorma is my favorite locale in Monster Hunter, just for it's sheer history and importance. I really wish Wilds puts the lore of MH in the forefront.
I like the idea for the collapsed Jungle Structure to lead away to Fonron. But I find it highly unlikely that there is or has been a bridge connecting those two continents. Just based on the scale of the Map it would either imply the bridge to be 100s of kilometers long or the world itself to be puny, which really doesn't track considering the diversity in biomes and ecological zones presented in these games. I think it is much more likely that these "bridges" and their aligning orientation had more of a religious or symbolic purpose. Or they are not related at all, just built by the same or a descendant civilization, considering their matching architecture and style.
I love maps, love Monster Hunter and love your videos, that's all. Also, it's crazy that Capcom doesn't finally start taking its world building seriously and actually give us the official data we need.
Personally, I feel like the actual 'dragon' that the Hero of Kokoto fought was a Monoblos, but as time went on the legends steadily lost the exact description other than the single horn. Then, when the identity had been lost, hunters unknowingly upgraded the identity of the monster to a Lao Shan Lung because it was harder to imagine fighting a Monoblos being a 'legendary battle'. (I also personally believe that the Monoblos that was fought was a Deviant or Zenith or something similar, but that's much less substantiated.)
From my understanding, you actually can fight lucent nargacuga in anomaly investigations however it still will only spawn in the tower and is incredibly rare
While what you and others have theorized on the tower's location may be chalked up to happy coincidences and pure speculation, I really feel like everything you mentioned was highly intentional. Something I realized when reading through dev interviews etc. was that they really like putting details and easter eggs in these games for people to find out. These could range from the obvious (such as Kokoto's theme being the leading melody on Iceborne's Fatalis theme), to the subtle (Yama Tsukami randomly appearing and moving northeast from the jungle). So, I'm pretty sure you and the others are right regarding the tower.
uuh i just read the magazin of hunting life in freedom 1 and it said that some volcano monsters slip into the swamp so is there any volcanoes near the old swamp in your map?
Good way to start the year. I'm guessing you probably won't do anything with the Monster Riders and Stories. Given those have their own villages and cities to go with the games or shows.
