- Where else can you meet Santa, eat reindeer, unwind in a sauna, visit the northernmost McDonald’s, and see the Northern Lights?
Big & Small head north of Helsinki to explore the vast Arctic land of Lapland, Finland, rich in fells, forest, lakes, and reindeer-and home to Santa Claus. We start in the Lapland capital of Rovaniemi, the largest city (by land mass) in all of Europe. We then rent a car to cross into the Arctic Circle, see Santa’s headquarters, and dodge reindeer on the road. (Fun fact: Every reindeer in Finland is owned by a herder.)
In the heart of Lapland, we check into the Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort to hunt for Aurora Borealis. Do we actually see the Northern Lights? (You’ll have to see!) We then head even further north to Inari, home to many Sami, the only indigenous people within the European Union.

Great video, thank you! You guys are true travelers learning about your destination. I really enjoyed this video. For us Finns Lapland is a place where the hectic modern life is abandoned and one can feel reconnected with the Earth and nature. When I am there I feel so grateful for the Sámi people to visit their land. Tourism has turned some places in Lapland into an amusement park which is sad.
Thank you. Your comment makes us very happy. Glad you enjoyed the video. We were in Lapland in the Fall so we really felt we could reconnect with nature and speak with locals as well.
Where are you from in Finland?
@@BigSmallTravel I have lived in eight cities and towns across Finland including Rovaniemi. I've also lived in Britain for five years. If you fell in love with Lapland, early spring with lots of snow and early summer with 24-hour sun light (but no mosquitos) would be amazing experiences as well.
@@fortuna7469 It sounds like you have been in many places. We would love to visit Finland again. We felt comfortable there and enjoyed the country especially the nature. We even loved exploring Helsinki.
@@fortuna7469 Where are you based now? The UK?
Thank you, Big & Small, for all you do throughout the year! It makes those of us who are across the world feel as if we are right there with you!🇬🇧❤️🎄
Thank you so much for watching. We appreciate your support VERY much! I hope you felt like you were in Finland with us! 🤗
@danasmith6441 What does this mean?
Yes.
Merry Christmas looks like a great trip
Same to you! This was a timely video. Thanks for watching. Any snow in the upper elevations?
@@BigSmallTravel lots and more coming tonight
Awesome vlog love from Pakistan 🙂
Thank you! We would love to visit Pakistan and eat Pakistani food. We ate Pakistani food in San Francisco in the USA. We are Americans, but now we live in Italy.
I hope you enjoyed our videos in Finland.
Interesting video!
Thanks! I hope you enjoyed it.
Where are you from?
@@BigSmallTravel I'm from Denmark, but live in Helsinki. Haven't been to Lapland yet, so your video gave me some great ideas. Finally got an inspiration to start planning the trip ;)
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Very happy to see you enjoyed North Finland. This is such a unique place to travel.
We try to get rid of the trees but those buggers keep growing back faster than we can cut them down. 🤪
Hi! What trees do you refer to? The trees in the video at 5:40 We really enjoyed the beauty and forests in this part of Finland. Are you from Finland?
@@BigSmallTravel Forestry is a multi billion €uro business in Finland. While the population of being only 5.5 million people Finland is one of the biggest exporter of paper products in the world. Despite of this annual growth exceeds annual cutting.
@@Keinapappa Thanks for the information. We did not realize this at all. However, we were very impressed with our time in Finland. We visited North Finland during the early Fall so no snow for us.
@@Keinapappa Are you from Lapland?
@@BigSmallTravel No. Southern Finland.
Yes, a real video because most people think of the Arctic as a desolate region filled with snow or ice all year. This is actually far from the truth. As much as 90% of the Arctic has almost no snow in the summer.
Yes, thank you for watching. It always means a lot for us to show places as they area and just explore as we are a pure travel channel that shares our observations and not always what everyone else is discussing. Thanks for the facts.
Have you been to the Arctic Circle?
Fell (or Fjell) use to be a real mountain like Alps or Rocky mountains but that was before the Ice Age. So it was thousands of years of Ice carving the mountain and making it lower.
Thanks for the added information. We loved walking in these fells in north Finland. We were in this part of Finland in September so it was still very nice weather.
Are you from Finland?
@@BigSmallTravel I am yes. I live in a the most southern part of the country. But I've been in Lapland many times!
@@gozamite The most surprising thing about Finland ... It was the great filter coffee and the people. The Finnish people were very nice to us and we really loved the coffee. Finland is a beautiful country with a lot of different history and natural beauty.
@@gozamite We did not visit southern Finland. What is the best thing to see in southern Finland?
The Artic Circle does not exist. That is what I shall conclude since you stated that it's imaginary.
Belated Christmas to you! This is the definition of what is known as the Arctic Circle. What do you think?
Aren't you getting Arctic temperatures now?
@@BigSmallTravel I am also trying to convince myself that Artic weather does not exist either. It's requiring five blankets.
@@stego2012 It is all happening because the earth is getting warmer. 😀🤔
