- Four people have died after a migrant boat capsized in the English Channel.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak expressed his “sorrow” at the “capsizing of a small boat” in the Channel, telling MPs there had been a “tragic loss of human life”.
The Royal Navy, French navy, Coastguard and RNLI lifeboats were all involved in a major rescue operation off the Kent coast on Wednesday morning.
RNLI lifeboats were launched from Dover at 3.07am, followed by more from Ramsgate and Hastings.
The tragedy came a day after Mr Sunak unveiled a raft of new measures in a bid to curb Channel crossings as he told MPs: “We have to stop the boats.”
More than 44,000 people have made the dangerous crossing this year, Government figures show.
At least 27 migrants died when a dinghy sank while heading to the UK from France in November last year.
Home Secretary Suella Braverman expressed her “profound sadness” at the news and said: “These are the days that we dread. Crossing the Channel in unseaworthy vessels is a lethally dangerous endeavour."
Ian Collins speaks to Daniel from Surrey, who says mass immigration has "ruined Britain".

I was reading in the news about a year ago about an Indian pub owner complaining about the immigrants moving into the area where his pub is situated.

Totally agree. In my native Canada, City of Toronto police department no longer releases machete stats. A certain community loves hacking people's arms off, so police don't release stats as it might prejudice people against them. As you said Britain used to be safe, ditto for Toronto. Britain and my country have gone to hell in a hand basket. My grandkids around 20 years of age are terrified where things are headed. Sadly, I share their concerns.

Thank you to Talk TV for debating this problem. Australia is 4 million square miles with a population of 25 million and strict border control. Britain in comparison is a small Island with a population of 75 million and no control. The first priority of government is the security of the country and it's citizens. We know these people have ID, but it's thrown into the channel prier to being picked up. It seems like the home office has ran out of hotels and now considering turning office blocks into migrant accommodation. This is also the case with caravan parks. Politicians went to the finest schools and universities, many MPs are QC's, Barristers, and Solicitors. So don't tell me there isn't the brains between them to deal with the issue. There's clearly an agenda going on.

Totally 100% agree with these callers. Something needs to be done, the current immigration and refugee policies are untenable. Even if we leave the ECHR and any other overarching legislative body which currently lines the pockets of these unscrupulous human rights lawyers, the damage has been done. If the UK closes it’s borders tomorrow to all migrants, (legal and illegal) we are still overcrowded, and our culture, national security , and identity has already been irreparably eroded.
Pay ppl to go back, don’t grant immediate citizenship to children of immigrants, don’t pay benefits to immigrants , deport criminals and strip citizenships, encourage middle classes to have children .. force ppl to speak English, stop paying for translators. You’ve got to understand that this is very new for Ireland so they’re in the first stages of coming to terms with it whilst we had people like the EDL and BNP out protesting but we’ve all been ground down over the years that it now feels hopeless. Being born in 1961, I've got to the point now that I dont recognise this country anymore. It's certainly not the one I was born into. Understand things change but surely it's up to the people coming here to fit in with British culture rather than the other way round. If you're in genuine need of asylum or you have something to offer this country then fair enough, but most people can see that a big proportion of immigrants are here for economic reasons. No good complaining now, as usual, the Brits as a nation turned a blind eye to it and let it just keep carrying on. Should have held politicians to account long ago.

I were born in 1960 and I don't recognise Britain as a white British country anymore and it now feels like I am living a foreign country when I step outside my home and the first person or people I see or hear are foreigners.
Similar, I was born in 1955 and if you look at archive pictures from the 60s/70s you will see a seismic change in population. 50 years from now the indigenous population will be a minority.
It's not just hotels or holiday camps the government are after. They are after private housing as well. My landlord is looking to sell the house I have a flat in as he is struggling financially and has no choice.. we had some viewers today, I was sat in my lounge and they were in the bedroom and I heard the landlord tell them that we (us tenants) are concerned about our future as the council or other private landlords have literally nothing for us... This viewer then went on to say the people they 'look after' are recent asylum seekers, young men new to the country and it'll be their first winter here in a voice oozing with sympathy for them! They haven't even yet been given the right to be here yet the likes of me could be on the streets so they can be housed. I'm in my early 60's, live on my own, worked all my life and still do just keeping my head above the breadline, done 6 years in the Army and we get nothing. We never hear any discussion about UK population. How many can we take, based on resources like housing, health services, law and order, etc? The true population is probably 70 - 80 million. How many more can be sustained when we are already in constant racial conflict? There is no intelligent planning here.

When Australia was accepting asylum seekers coming by boats, the Indonesian government was not happy about it, because they had a huge influx of would-be asylum seekers landing in their country, looking for people traffickers to get them into Australia. (Indonesia itself is not a signatory to the UN Convention on Refugees.) I remember the Indonesian ambassador on TV, telling Australia to "take the sugar off the table".
